I'm not sure you'd even be able to run a graphical operating system with 256k of memory. I think keyboards have more RAM than that.

edit: surely those new laser mice do.

edit 2: Ahahaha, though it occurs to me that if your machine has only 256k of memory you'd be unable to log into SL at all. And this used as an explanation for your views amuses me in quite an unusual way!

Aren't you cute.

I don't know all the terms and I'm not a tech person. SO SHOOT ME! mb, yes, I know. You knew what I meant though. Used k yourself even.

I am able to log in, but I sure can't move around much at parties!

Your views don't even reach the bar of amusement for me.

Cocoanut,

You really should consider adding 256megs more of memory to your computer. 256megs is the bare minimum that just Windows XP runs comfortably on, and then, barely so if you have more than one program running. Upgrading to 512megs of memory would improve your computer experience overall, whether it be browsing the web, playing SL, or writing a document in Microsoft Word. Memory prices are very cheap. If you ever want assistance finding the right memory for your computer, let me know - I would be happy to help. Just upgrading my mother's computer from 256 to 512 megs of ram made a world of difference for her.

Oh I am definitely going to do that. Despite being terrified whenever I have to Operate on the Machine.

I figure this web-on-a-prim stuff will do the trick in getting me to put in more memory. Thanks for your offer of help! I may need it.

I am now convinced of the rightness of my quest.

who shall follow me!?

I'm convinced your quest is a good one, also. The sooner I'm done with you taking potshots at me, the happier I will be, too.

Just because some people live here and use the forums as a medium to make jackasses of themselves doesn't mean they don't serve a purpose.
Plus, all the asshattery makes for decent entertainment for slow days.

Now I know why I haven't seen Lecktor at the smoking area today. :p

I didn't read the whole thread, but my opinion is.....

LL gets a lot from the forums in the form of a free focus group, where ideas can be bounced around. LL get's a huge bang for the buck.

They would also be wise to keep forums that discuss interesting things not concerning SL, because these things keep people interested in the forums. They come back because it's fun.

Hope I didn't repeat an earlier post :)

These forums, that bicycle ... these forums are like the baseball card you attach near the back wheel so that it makes that really cool ratchety sound against the spokes when you're on your way to the candy store.

Which means, by extrapolation, that SL is the candy store.

And, further, that Euterpe Roo is a box of Good & Plenty.

I used k myself because 256 kilobytes of memory is a measure of memory too. A miniscule measure of memory. Which, if actually used in your computer, would render it unusable. (edit: not to mention unable to log into Second Life)

As for your amusement, make no mistake, toots: I'm here for my own amusement only. :)

Oh really? Well, thats why I used it myself, too! :D Of course 256 kilobytes of memory is a measure of memory, too.

As for you logging on here only for your own amusement, I think that is obvious.

There was a time when we'd have been grateful to have 256k. I thought the 128k of memory I had in my Apple IIe was all I'd ever need.

And heck, I'm old enough to remember working on 16K of magnetic core memory that was a big as a LP record cover.

Whippersnappers will no doubt ask "what's an LP" ;-)

No, you used it because you don't know what you're talking about.

Of course that's not why I used it. I used it because I wasn't thinking. A typo, more or less, and not an important one. I don't much care what it's called, unless I'm ordering a computer.

You, however, have got to have a BETTER reason for accidentaly cueing mentally off what I had written and using it, too. Even though in your case it was pretty much a typo, too.

So you will have it that you know the difference between 512 MB and 512k? And that I don't know what I'm talking about?

Well, that's not true.

But, if you need to have it be that way, go ahead, cause I'm just generous like that! :D

Shoot, I remember my first computer had 32 MB and I thought that was terrific!

Before that - way long ago, kiddies - I did the statistical analysis for my thesis paper using the computer at the University of Texas. And I do mean "the" computer! A punch-card machine that filled the entire room. People signed up to take turns using it.

lol

How about 9track mag tape drives or card readers the size of a chest freezer or 1mb storage stack of 4 platters twice the size of LP's?? Yes I was in the military.
