Whoo hoo! :D

Now all we need is two more and a team name that's so cool, we'll get frostbite in uncomfortable places.

I'M BACK - JunkYard WARS SL is reborn
04-05-2004 10:40
Hey y'all

Ok, after a long slumber away from SL I have returned and I am really hoping to rekindle this idea (please read back if you're not familiar)

I will need help though, so this is a call for volunteers to contact me - IM me, fly over to me, push me off a tall structure, whatever.

We'll need SOME land of course, and we'll need to contruct a set, all sorts of goodies and then of course, lots of volunteers and spectators.

My intention is also to turn this into a video at the end of each challenge. I'll conduct interviews with the players, and put together a nicely edited 5-10 min video of the event itself, much like the format of the TV version.

So whos interested! Seemed like a popular idea before but I think it died with me :)

Welcome back, Trent! Count me in. And the offer to host the movies on my website still stands.

this was a great idea then.. and it's still a great idea now!

i wasn't around for the original post of this thread and hadn't noticed it was old until a few posts in, started thinking 'whatever happened to that?', then realized there must be a new post at the end.. read it and got all excited all over again!

i may not be a scripting genius, but i can hold my own with building some stuff and like to think i'm good at textures.. so, sign me on in some way.. i'd love to be part of a team!

will there be 'arena' matches again? large advertising to be bought, so more prize money can be given? (as well as a bit off the top for you :) )

i would love to see this return!

i endorse this idea/project!

Instead of dealing with the limitations of Say why not have the teams IM on a group channel, and have the refs attached to both channels so he can see what they are talking about. Then maybe have someone else sort of transcript things so the "viewers at home" get an idea of whats going on -- the hosts really make that show, IMHO.

I'd be all for hosting! I'm good at paraphrasing and quick-witted, and can prolly draw up those diagrammy things that they do in JYW to sort of try to explain where the teams are going with their project, etc. THo that maybe more of a post-production tv-version thing rather than live action :)

wow - thanks for responses everyone! Some great offers and ideas coming in - I will schedule a meeting as an event for this shortly once it's had a day or 2 to stew here in the forums :)

I'd like to propose that a HOST or couple of hosts is a great idea - and I would also LOVE to see an EXPERT, just like the tv version as that always adds some credibility to the work :)

So I'd love to see more volunteers and interested parties step forward, even if just to say 'count me in' so i knw the size of the interested body of folks :)

I think that an audio commentary would be an excellent idea, a streaming audio app like teamspeak might be just the thing - 1 channel for each team, the host allowed in both, and a channel for the spectators to chat and listen in to the host(s)?

keep the ideas coming! And the biggest issue - IDEAS FOR CHALLENGES! we'll need lots, some well shoot down, and some we'll turn into episodes, so open the flood-gates!

thanks again for all your responses folks, you once again have me geniunely 'stoked' !

Hmm ... the challenges shouldn't be anything ordinary, me thinks. If they are, there should be obscene limits on the number of prims, what shapes you can use, etc for those challenges.

Something I wanted to create in SL was a working crane arm, but I don't have the knowledge to pull it off, nor am I even sure if it's possible. If this was taken as a challenge, the teams would need to build the crane (and of course creativity is a must in decorating in JYW) and do some sort of obstacle course, like lift some physics-enabled objects of irregular shape...

OMG!!!!!!!!!! TETRIS!!!!!!!

Hear me out on this one --- you build your crane and then have to pick up Tetris pieces and drop them in a well. First one to x number of lines WINS!

Whatcha'll think?

Oh and how about a submarine to explore Atlas at some point? We could build an obstacle course they have to go through, and have a time limit etc. The team has to shoot x number of targets, and on the surface when they hit a target a particle fountian goes off, like they hit a depth charge or something. Keeps the audience appraised of the action in the deep.

the SLBC would be honored if we could film the SL Junkyard Wars to air it on the front page of www.secondlife.com

We can provide the camera work as well as airing it live and archiving it for reruns. We may even be able to provide post-filming voiceover work if necessary.

If you guys are interested, contact Selkit Diller, Fox Diller, Quantum Kamloops, or myself in-world.

I'd like to volunteer to be a judge / commentator (depending on the time of the event... I'm in the UK and have to get up at 7am weekdays).
i'll also put up L$5000 prize money, wether I can be there or not.

Hmmm... What happened???

Here I sit in the future (9/17/2005!!!) and wonder: What happened to this absolutely
fantastic idea? I've been in SL since June '05, and was reading this thread, and unless
I'm totally clueless, this idea has gone nowhere.... Please tell me I'm wrong?!?!?!?!?

did anyone ever offer ideas for the actual mcguffin of the whole idea? what would be built and how would the be judged?

I'm interested in helping out but i'm not sure how we make this a real contest.
What about prize accuisition?
