Yes Jake, we have used this many times... I have the whole inside of my bathroom addition texuted to see out but not in... It is a great feature when saving on prims. Good find. Lewis, thank you for your efforts and help to us newbie builders. We appreciate it more than you know. From: Jake Sol Well, if anybody is still paying attention to the original intent of this post, I was playing around last night and found out that you can make windows with textures. I happened to have a texture in my inventory that had a wall with a square window in it and sure enough, you can see through it. Also you can make one side of an object colored and one side transparent, so for example I put a dome on top of my house, and the interieor was transparent allowing me to see out but the outside of the dome was colored not allowing others to see in. Experiment, oh and ignore the asshats.

From: Pratyeka Muromachi How cool! I got flamed!
I have no respect for those who will not go through the process of playing with every tool in the toolbox in order to learn how to use them. Only after doing this do they deserve respect and an answer.
Those who come to the forum and ask questions before putting serious effort in self-learning are leaches sucking on the life blood of others who HAVE put in the effort to learn.
You will not get an apology. And no, I dont care. Prat, you are indeed a prat. How do you know that the original requestor wasnt 12 years old? Perhaps they have zero computer experience? Perhaps they are 2 days old and experimenting in SL? Perhaps they know noone to ask these things and have no point of reference to find any information on the toolbox, let alone the tools within them? Look back at your own experience. Tell me you have never, ever, asked a silly question in your life..... Does that make YOU less deserving of respect and common courtesy? Actually....looking at your reply, it doesnt MATTER if you never asked a silly question... your a lowlife that isnt worth anyway...and courtesy seemed to jump you when it was handed out to all other viable lifeforms. Respect is freely given, but also freely taken away. Its easier to give it andd retain the power to revoke, than to just flame people. You say you cant respect someone that hasnt played with all the tools in the toolbox. Well, take a chain saw to ethiopia and let them have at it without any instructions. That would be about as ill-considered and inappropriate as your reply was...both replies were, in fact. I think you need an attitude adjustment... if you cant play well with others, perhaps you simply shouldnt play at all....

In my fatansy Prat runs into a question and all the replies are -- play around with it and teach yourself /we dont care ---maybe it will teach him something -- what comes around goes around--- thanks to all who have helped me and others keep up the good work !!!

How to cut holes in objects?
12-13-2006 11:38
This post seems to have drifted off the original point, I found out what I needed to know tho, without having to ask, which I think is the point of a forum?
How to cut holes in objects? - that's what I wanted to know, and played in the sand for hours never saw that hollow option or tried it, i will now.
And I'm off to the Ivory Tower too.
So, er, thanks!

Leeches sucking on the lifeblood of others??????

Asking a question seems like serious stuff around here. I suggest if a question is too 'lite' for you, or youve seen it asked too many times, dont bother opening the thread and wasting your time typing in some condescending remark. Never heard a Linden say that once they get too many posts they would shut down the forums, so I say "ask away". The person wanted to cut a hole to make a window, they didnt log in here to watch some snots do a superiority dance.

Another "obvious" comment that can bite you in the but is that the hole can only be cut in one dimension. You'll see which way when you increase the "hollow" dimension. Do also play with the "cut" parameters.

Hi to all I am also new here. I've worked with some 3d modeling tools too, and was missing not only booleans, but some precise transforms. In view of the scarcity of prims, I managed to get the walls for rooms from one cube, using hollow at 95%, scaling it and then using a tga texture with an alpha channel -for the window-. Also, when scaling the texture, it usually repeats itself without warning (changing the set value of 1.000). I found that maintaining "position" checked, the scale reamins where I want. I am off to that Ivory Tower, too. Cheers
