Matrix, eh? Hmm... I'll see what I can do. Let me know in-game if you want anything more specific. ;)

I personally like putting together an outfit using individual things. I'm hardly ever satisfied with an out of the box outfit. So I suggest creating mostly single items. Though whole outfits have their place I think. Like suits, or uniforms.

I just want a royal blue long sleeve turtle-neck. =)

Another thing I'd consider, is maybe different lines of separates that are easily mix and matchable.

Fantasy costumes, as I already said are a great idea...and you already KNOW I love your gothic clothing boutique. I'd love to see you expand on the lines you already have.

I get SO many compliments and comments on your wings, I'd create more styles of those too...dragon wings, Faery wings, butterfly wings....hmmmm....I have so many different types of cool-looking wings in my head right now it's not funny =p

Man, that's it, I'm teaching myself how to use PSP7, I decided to download the trial today. I'm a graphics n00b though, so I'm sure it'll take me some time to figure it out. Is it really really hard to learn how to take an image I find somewhere and make it into a texture I could use in the game using PSP7?

I use psp7 full version and I have had no trouble with any size image I create or edit, being able to upload and use it in SL But I still have not figured out how to use edit or create alphas. Just make sure its in tga or jpg format when you save the file. I bet there are other tips and tricks I dont know that someone else here knows. So I will watch this thread to see the PSP7 experienced make thier comments. :-)

alphas in PSP7
01-15-2003 19:08
Well I think we're outta luck, Charlie, but I'm hoping someone will point us in the right direction if I'm wrong.

In the save options for TGA in PSP there isn't a 32bit option. Only 16 and 24. And if I understand correctly, the TGA _must_ be 32bit for the alpha channel to be transparent in world...

I can tell you this much, however -- Select the area(s), then Selection -> Save to Alpha

That's as far as I've gotten.

I use Ulead Photoimpact 7, which also only gets up to 24 bit, but I can save it with layers in a photoshop format, open it up in GIMP, and save it as a 32 bit TGA. That way I dan't have to pay any extra.

I have been able to edit pics with alpha and save em out but as far as changin the alpha part or even creating a new aalpha I have no idea. In PSP7. Still trying, if I get somewhere with it I will definatly post the directions here.

so GIMP is the key
01-16-2003 10:02
Thanks for that head's up, BBC.

Wish we could just use gif's with transparency. That'd be sooo much easier.

Charlie: Use your magic wand to select the area(s). Then go up to the Selections menu, choose Save to Alpha Channel.

Then save the image as a 24 bit TGA (or in PSP's layered format)

Then do what BBC said -- open it in Gimp and resave it as 32 bit TGA.

alpha 24bit saved in PSP works fine. =0) but I was a bit confused it actually is considered 32bit. It saves as 24bit but with the 8bit alpha so that atually equals 32 bits.

If you like the PSP7 basics on this....

make a tutorial?
01-16-2003 10:57
Steller, would you consider making a tutorial?

Either word doc or html -- lots of screenshots, showing exactly step by step what needs to be done?

Heck, I'll pay you some $SL if you'll do it.

If you want a custom avatar fairly cheap, now's your chance, I've got an auction going at Your2ndLife.com which should cover all the basics. It'll help me figure out pricing and such. If you're interested, check it out. Hopefully I'll get a new accessory in today. :)

I might have said this already in this thread (I don't remember) but for anyone interested, I made a face tutorial (for regular 3d modeling) just a quicky, and at the very end, I show how to make eyes in alpha channel so you can replace the colors of the iris easily.

Anyway, it's something you might want to look at?? This is where I start to do the iris:
http://www.ingiebee.com/Face%20Tut%203.htm
and this is where the tutorial starts from the begining:
http://www.ingiebee.com/Face%20Tut.htm

It's not exactly what we need here, and I can do another tutorial just for us if I ever find the time, but I only use the Gimp, I love that program! I dont use my old Photoshop 5 and only use my old paint shop pro 5 (I think it's a 5 also) for resizing, and easy stuff, but not creatively.

Love INgie

Thanks again, Steller!

Thx Stell this helps Quite a bit.....If I master this, keep lookin periodically at my store for more textures. Also I can't get new awsome textures or requested textures if no one buys what I got now......I am sure you can find something, I have 125 textures up for sale, plus some images. So have fun lookin they are reasonably priced at L$20...............

In a few days I will be able to setup viewable displays for your texturs if you wish to sell, you will have 2 options for display both will be charged by the cost per week for the display and just a small touch more, unless you buy a display from Law Murphy. Then displaying will be free till I figure out the charges.

.tga alpha problems with Photoshop 7
01-20-2003 14:58
If you are having trouble saving and/or uploading a tga file with an alpha channel from Photoshop 7, you probably need to update PS to 7.0.1. Adobe changed the way the targa export plugin worked in 7.0, then changed it back to the old way in 7.0.1. See their site for the free update. (or you can just download the tga export plugin and replace it in your PS plugins folder)

http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/2c21a.htm

FYI, SL now supports uploading of .jpg and 8- and 24-bit .bmp image formats, as well as .tga. Images with alpha channels should only be uploaded as .tga. (Though in the future we will support 32 bit .bmp)
