Well, I'm done making them. My home sim's already been "fixed" so it can't be done there, and by the time I get off work, the other sims where I can create new megaprims will be converted, I'm sure. I'll pack mine up later today, and will make them available to builders, most likely via SLX, for free.

I don't know what OS you're on, but I'm wondering from the error message you mentioned in the other thread if there might be a case sensitivity thing getting in your way. _____________________

Apparently my island is due to restart tomorrow so for a limited time come get your prim on if you wish. Clean up after yourself and don't leave anything laying about, and go up about 300m preferably.

My land in Moran (206,134,54) "Solomon's Parkland" still allows the creation of megaprims; I've got the land set for 15 minute autoreturn if someone forgets to clean up after themselves. Please come and make all you want while you can!

I dont know what the actual answer is.. I just know LLs response was at best...flaccid. That's a very good way to put it, and now I know why we still haven't seen the promised blog entry... ...the Lindens are still waiting for their shipment of Lie-agra to come in to firm up their flaccid reasoning. |

I don't suppose anyone made some 20/30/40 x 1 x 0.1 or similar did they? I was so busy making other sizes I forget to sort my fences.. (the 1.5 of Ceera's are too high

(the 1.5 of Ceera's are too high )Use a 1.5 vertical repeat and bury the lower 1/3, for 1 M high. And you can use a 0.5 dimple to make a 0.75 M high fence. A dimple of 0.33 will make it a 1 M fence. (make it a sphere. dimple one end to 0.5, make it a box again.) _____________________

Tested this. Use the 1.5 M high megaprims that are very thin, in my kit. Dimple begin of 0.333, vertical texture repeat of 1.5, vertical offset of -0.25 gives you a 1 M high fence with what appears to be 1 vertical repeat. Set your horizontal repeat as desired.

hey guys about megaprims , do they cause any lag more then usual ?
I just got some and i am changing the bike/horse-paths on my groups sim and i was wondering if i should actually do it, i mean if i could change all the paths it would save lots of prims for other stuff, but if its gonna cause extra lag then its not really worth it.I think i heard that the old ones did but it might be just me imagining it, So do megaprims (new ones) cause more lag then just using multiple prims to get the same size? |

This has been said before, but it's worth saying it again.. isn't it great how these megaprims really showed what a great community there is in SL Makes me proud to be an avatar..... |

It seems to depend a lot on what you do with them. Most of the new ones are "better behaved" primarily because they don't need to be heavily "tortured' to be the shape that they were created at. Their bounding boxes match their appearance. So, for example, a 100 M long, 2 M wide, 0.5 M thick new mega could be used quite well to replace a strip of ten 10 M long, 2 M wide, 0.5 M thick normal prims. But if you position a mega so it crosses sim borders, or make it physical, I would imagine it has the same problems as the old ones. Right now, I still advise using these with caution. They can allow creation of things that are flat-out impossible in SL by any other means. Such as an arch that is a perfectly circular curve with a 50 M radius. But just using them to reduce prim count should be done cautiously, comparing sim condition before and after their creation. _____________________

So do megaprims (new ones) cause more lag then just using multiple prims to get the same size? There are two strongly held opposing schools of thought: yes, and no. In any event, they may be coming back. Andrew Linden discussed the plan here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Andrew_Linden/Office_Hours/2008_05_15 Here's a summary of his plan from that page, minus the chatter in between while he was talking: "I just posted my revised outline of my "Megaprim Liberation" plan, which is not official LL policy, but merely the plan I would submit to others in LL should we ever have a meeting to talk about megaprims...So the steps toward Megaprim Liberation are: (1) Add a feature that allows land owners to return any object that overlaps their land (aka Prim Encroachment) (2) Make static objects collide across region boundaries (3) Gradually (every few weeks or months) increase the default max prim size (and perhaps linkability) so... to 16, then 32, then 64m etc... up to 256 max do it incrementally so we can have time to fix any resulting problems (server or client-side) that crop up as a result (4) Add a feature that allows Estate/Region owners to set void, distant horizon, and cloud layers/textures (to eliminate the need for >256m megaprim sky/horizon effects) (5) Crack down on megaprims with sides > 256m" Sidewinder Linden: One of the internal discussions is to look at viewer performance impacts.. |
