Mega prim Creation

I am seeing a whole new batch of Mega prims in sl again (at least in slexchange) has the size restrictions been lifted and if so do the new Mega prims mess with the Physics of items around them?

(and does this mean I need to rebuild both my stores to reduce their prim count?)

I assume you are talking about this:

http://slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=685589

The limitation on creation of new megaprims was indeed lifted with Havok 4. While LL still does not officially support Megaprims, and the client can not create Megaprims, there are other ways to create them which were once closed, and now have been reopened, wether intentionally or not.

As for your stores, that's up to you. Megaprims are fine if used responsibly. :)

Really???

Has somebody confirmed that this hole is again open? I've looked a few times for megaprims to meet some need but couldn't find the right sizes.. Would be cool to be able to get some new custom shapes & sizes..

edit: oooo.. the slex page.. right.. :)

To add some speculation and rumor, I have heard from a friend who heard from a friend that a reptillian type Linden said that one day prims larger than 10x10x10 will be officially supported.

:p

In the standard pack I've found the most useful were the 16x32x0.8... I used 10 of them to make a 4 story tower to fit exactly on a 512m.

At my new place I only used 4, the 32x32x0.8, and just for the foundation. the land was kinda choppy and needed it.

Word on the street is that LL intentionally lifted the limits to turn a "blind eye" to the unofficial ability to create new megaprims, without actually putting it into the client (can you image if every Joe Newbie could create 256x256x256 on accident? YIKES!)

I came by way of those prims this morning (THANK YOU), I am particularly interested in the parcel sized ones since I never know what the WxL of a standard parcel size is (512,1024 etc) - anyone know?

512 sq m = 32 x 16
1024 sq m = 32 x 32

Thanks a million - know the rest of the standard parcel sizes?

Only if they are cut with those dimensions.

Yes, I think that is the major block to them putting in official support, figuring out how to handle it responsibly, when the person at the keyboard may not be. :)

So, is there anyone here that can make them?... I have two sizes that I would love to have (others eventually, but 2 could save me from using 4 prims instead of 1)... 12x12x0.5 and 10x12x0.5

Or better, lead me in a direction to make them... not looking to make HUGE prims, just some to reduce prim usage in my personal builds.

Yes, I've figured it out - using the TestClient.exe that comes with the much-maligned libsecondlife. I'll drop them on you in-world in a moment...

Can these ones be modified in place or are you stuck again with standard sizes?

I already dropped her custom order on her :) and I didn't have to use the test client. It's easy enough to modify the regular open source client to do this.

You can not change the size, but you can change the shape, so it makes no sense to have, for example, a collection of both cubes and cylinders. You can turn the former into the latter. You can also hollow, taper, etc. Just don't try to resize them or they'll snap back to regulation size.

If you attempt to modify the size, they snap back to 10x10x10. You can modify any of the other parameters, including block type, path cut, hollow, twist, shear etc.

Last question: Do they behave badly as far as setting things on them or has the new physics engine fixed that too?

This thread from earlier today has detailed instructions on making new megaprims (bottom line: Nicholaz!!) and some info on megaprim futures:

/327/4c/258306/1.html

p.s. these new megas appear to act just like the old ones do. No, Havok4 did not fix anything about rezzing on megaprims, particularly on cut surfaces.

pps. yes, there is a server rollout starting tonight ... would be surprised if they got it together to plug this exploit that soon. Not impossible, but ... unlikely.

Havok 4 did seem to fix the bounding box meaning hollow works properly now :) and rezzing on them is all about camera technic I find with old and new mega prims if you get your camera in right position you will be able to rezz on them it take a bit of trial and error to find the position alternatly you can make a normal prim rezz platform.

I sure could use a 12x12x12 for my space station skybox (the result would be an object 24 wide) and a 30x1.5x.01 for fencing...

They are closing the door on megaprim creation right now with the server patch that is rolling out today.

The new megaprims behave better than many of the old ones because the majority of the sizes in the old ones were created by torturing a limited number of early megaprim shapes. For example, the old 100 x 100 x 2 megaprim was a 100 x 100 x 100 cube that had been squashed using dimples. So that one was very hard to rez on. But I made a real 100 x 100 x 1 megaprim that started out as those dimensions, without prim torture, and you can very easily walk on and rez on its surfaces. It's surfaces and bounding box are right where they say they are.

Got it. Just made 0.01 thick by 1.5 high in lengths of 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, and 50.
