I saw some entry when I logged into SL this morning that issues were resolved... yet the web site & forums are worse than ever before.

I am an IT Architect for a Fortune 500 company (in RL)... its really not rocket science to keep web sites and forums properly loaded/balanced and available, especially if you have maintenance on your equipment and a good IT staff.

I guess its just bad timing being fairly new here and seeing this as my first impression of how LL runs their business...

Oh, it's all pretty normal really. You have to become as mad as the rest of us to stick around and put up with it :}

*smile* yeah, but right after the shoutout I really _could_ «sob» :D

(nah - actually it's not that bad. I guess, by the time I begin to sob because of an error on a webpage, I _really_ need a break from the web... )

... and LOST got even more confusing now that Season 4 has started... is Damon LINDElof somehow related to LINDEn-labs??? THAT would make a lot of sense...

I'm with you on this. I've only been here for a couple of weeks now and I have a paid account.

I'm usually pretty sympathetic towards the "behind the scenes" IT related stuff but if LL accepts money, they should deliver something in the ball-park of professional service. Every IT dept. has it's problems but this has been going on for several days in row. I know 14 year old kids who could single-handedly configure this BBS software and load balance the server - in their sleep. It's fairly trivial. And it's not like this forum is really high traffic.....

You'd think they'd be embarrassed.

I guess they _are_ embarassed. If not... well...

But - it's been really _very_ bad recently. SL does have it's hiccups now and then and we all know it's far from being perfect. But it's never been as bad as it is now...
I'm sure they'll get it fixed... (well, I HOPE!)...

They have to put on warm clothing anyway. There's competition on the way... If the guys who are involved in the OpenGrid project succeed (and I'm pretty sure they will), LL will have a hard time...

ahem yea cause in your world noone can work for a computer company ... must all be robots or something

anyway it isnt rocket science, its script, almost identical to lsl, and vey clear error messages, being over a week with the same error is on the ridiculous side

and their refusal to keep the software updated is dangerous, 99.999% of the time a forum software is updated is because someone has hacked into it, giving full exposure to database information

Wild speculation: the way this has been going on and on makes it feel a bit like some kind of DDoS attack, and it's just like LL to go stony silent whenever anything bad happens WRT security.

late to the party, it's neither wild speculation, nor new..... but if it is, and ongoing this long... that means a lot of pathetic things are going on, like LL not blocking or at least reporting problem IP's, or the fact that as DDoS goes, they (the attackers) would be mounting a very sad and ineffective attempt... of course with LL's silly policy of silence on such things one never knows (hell they'd look immediately better if they announced it)
