eh... I saw several spammy prescription drug links on the wiki, does this mean someone has been abusing it (not repeated for obvious reasons)

That's both the beauty and the liability of Wikis, anyone can edit them. Fortunately, changes can also be reverted when someone starts modifying them "incorrectly". It looks like the reversion has already been done at the LSL Wiki; please drop me a PM/IM if I missed the changes you are talking about. You are also welcome, nay encouraged, to fix em yourself.

Even the mother of all wikis has that problem too, but is able to keep almost half a million (English) entries from turning into ads for \/1@g@rA or 5þ@m.

When I saw the pages with spammy stuff on it I reverted the pages (BlindWanderer is my handle).

Also removed the link on the functions page to llPizza.

Login under SL name?
02-27-2005 04:21
Perhaps one should be required to login under an SL name and password to make changes, so that abuse reports could be filed against the miscreant?

The possibility of closure of the accounts associated with the credit card coupled with loss of inworld property might deter most people who want to play games with the wiki.

But hopefully there is some room in all that "stuffy" LSL coding reference for some humor...

I've also removed several spammed edits in the last 24 hours. Is there a compelling reason why wiki login isn't required for edit rights?

ROFL

Very humourous :p

I especially like the replacement of PI with PIE :D and PERMISSION_SARCASM

From: someone
llPizza([TOPPING_PEPPERONI, TOPPING_XTRACHEESE], PIE, llGetPos(), 8);

From: someone
llRequestPermissions(llDetectedKey(0), PERMISSION_SARCASM | PERMISSION_DEBIT);

Id really like it if there was a quick and easy way to revert to a certain period in a wikipage's history.

Not really. Basically, WakkaWiki sucks. Nobody's bothered to write a tool to port the database from Wakka to TikiWiki so it could be slotted alongside the general SL wiki. That way, there'd be a singular wiki, fewer security holes, and logins would be tied to site logins, allowing only SL members to create and edit pages.

Don't get me wrong, TikiWiki sucks too, it's just that it sucks LESS.

Still hank, you have to admit, its not a valid LSL function. Good for laughs, but not when you add it to the Functions, FutureRevisions, and Annoyances pages.

hrm, I'm all for a good laugh but adding it to the real docs is a little out of order - I agree with Chris on that point

Fine, you want LSL to be boring as crap, have at it. Erase it. No sense of humor. This thread was about people posting spam for viagra and crap. Didn't know you saw someone trying to interject a single topic of fun into the wiki as a bigger threat.

Sorry. I overstepped the bounds. Humor is not acceptable. Please forgive me.

Edit: Sue me. :D

However, I would be all for a "joke" Wiki that were labelled as such, where functions like llPizza and the other "humor" LSL threads could take up residence. Perhaps on the current Wiki, with the proper documentation and warnings.

You know, I sense something of the great Unix/Windoesn't culture divide here. On unix there are *lot's* of these kind of things floating around. People are expected to be able to recognize absurdity :) Too bad that's not considered to be an attribute of most LSL coders.

leave llPizza in there somewhere. that was really funny and well written too and easy to tell it was a joke even if it looked very official. if somebody thinks it's real and tries to use it nothing bad will happen anyways.

probly best to have a humor section tho just to keep the ones written by people with too much self esteem from cluttering things up when they start imitating.
