how to stop someone coming through a window from one side? (can I push someone 1m?)

Also... A way through just about anything is to use server "winking", since the physics in SL aren't exactly cutting edge. LoL

Not quite sure what I mean?
Goto about 255M up at the location in my signature (Alcona (45,190)). There you will find a "Nuclear AV Cannon", jump in a give it a whirl. It currently relies on such an anomaly to get you past the top guard plate.

There is a "Grated" alpha texture prim covering the cannons opening near the top that is used for the particle effects, it is non-phantom.

You essentially "wink" through it. Which is why the cannon fails to launch you to the sky successfully sometimes. :p

Was an expirament in server "winking" & will not launch you to oblivion, so check it out for a live demostration of server "winking".

Ah, I was thinking ``Oh, they put some kind of barrier at the "top" of the sim, eh?''

Yeh, I've seen this winking phenomenon. I did a big-ass impressive-as-hell avatar cannon with cool messed-up physics so it bounces around while it's in boost phase and had people launching themselves all over the sky with it. Someone decided to put an angled plate over the mouth of the cannon to play "avatar pingpong" with, and I went right through it without noticing it was there.

Isn't llPushObject() only a reportable offense in non-safe areas, just for the sake of argument? You could make the parcel a damage parcel.

I'm not suggesting someone actually do this - I'm just saying that it seems kind of unenforceable if someone was doing this on their own parcel with damage turned on. I'm aware of the unwanted consequences of doing that, it just seems like llPushObject should either work as intended, or be disabled on unsafe parcels. It's pretty silly to give someone a gun and a permit and say 'But don't use this.'

All things are fair in war zones, technically.

They can be in bad taste, but you can even be "Hand of X'd" in a damage zone, and there isn't anything you can do, besides look at your swiss cheese avvie... *cringes, has experienced this scenario*

Then again, land bans are bad enough, just last night, I got thrown around a sim several times... just trying to get to a shop. If the bans acted as walls, I wouldn't be upset, but I'm sure anyone here who has hit a ban wall at more than 25 m/s will agree... it's not fun.

Can I ask what a "damage zone" is, and how to tell if you're in one? I didn't think you could get hurt/die in 2nd life?

llPushObject on avatars is used by all kinds of legitimate applications: gravity lifts, antigravity rooms, space travel, ...


The quote originally referred to (by Lee Linden) doesn't say that llPushObject is never allowed to be used on avatars, it says it's not to be used in a security script, which is what is germaine to this thread.

Damage can be enabled so people can 'shoot' each other if they want to. Dying tp's you home, nothing more serious than that.

Rausch is one of the combat sims. My brain's going, can't remember the others at the moment. Landowners can also set their land to be dangerous (damage enabled) if they choose.

Crystalshard Foo sells a force field at his shop that might do what you are looking for (without any push). It only allows people on a notecard list to pass through the field and the shape of the field is moddable.

The thread just reminded me - weren't they supposed to be looking into applying the 'Phantom' property on a per-surface basis rather than the whole prim? This would make us able to link phantom prims and also build one-way 'doors' etc.

Anybody know what's happened to this idea?
