well you can try slamming the posts sequentially by post number... simply find a post with an old enough back history and request sequentially backwards till you hit a large block of not founds to get the beginning, then do the same forwards from the initial post... but I'm pretty sure that if it comes in to fast it'll trigger blacklisting for the ip, or other dos attack prevention measures... assuming you don't cap it with your own requests, or cause something to break that LL was hoping you wouldn't before next week......

Probably easy enough to scrape URLs like /invalid_link.html, then use http://forums.secondlife.com/printthread.php?t=xxx to get all the posts in the thread sans the forum graphics and extended formatting.
I think I am going to scrape the library that way. |

Johan, this version of vBulletin is SIX YEARS old. Yep, that's right. It hasn't received a core update in SIX YEARS. The current version of vBulletin alone is LIGHT YEARS ahead in terms of security and features as this one, and there is a migration path! The problems with vBulletin aren't technical in nature, no matter how badly LL wants to spin it. They are POLITICAL. I was just asking a question... thanks for answering it. I wasn't defending the new forums, just asking if there were something better out there that they could be using. _____________________

No problem. ![]() Just came across like you were dissin' the vB. ![]() If this version of vB wasn't castrated so badly by LL, it still would be MASSIVELY better than anything the blorums can provide. vB 4.x, phpBB 3.x, and SMF 2.x are all MUCH better than even this. |

Please reassure me that when they close this forum down, you will at least give the new place a try. If they would stop it with the bullshit answers on why they are doing this, it would be easier. They are not encouraging me to put any time into their new stuff. Who's paying who here? /me adds her thanks to all those who have helped over the years. I remember well being a newbie in SL and being nearly driven mad by the weirdness of LSL. It still makes me nuts but I know why now. TY all! _____________________

I was a victim of the XStreet forum closure and have been 'giving the blogs a chance' ever since. That LL have decided to close these forums down and move them to that jive-arse software without having fixed a single thing they said they would is just one more reason not to stay. Not only won't I be continuing with scripting-tips in whatever new guise they have but I will no longer be in-world either.

Oooh, thanks, both of you. I didn't think I'd been enough of a presence here to be missed XX.
I started to withdraw from SL last year because I was so upset at the way LL handled the 'adult' issue. I wasn't affected by it but their callous disregard for the residents and misinformation/absence of information made SL seem an unpleasant place to be. 'Efficient scripts' got me thinking there was something positive after all, but every time I thought of coming back there has been another LL announcement to scare me off and this is just the final straw. I don't like the way SL is going and I particularly don't like the way LL is taking it there, so I'm going to play RL instead ![]() As a professional software developer I have over 28 years experience (almost 3 in LSL) and yet have found people here with a much deeper knowledge of the technical platform. It has been a privilege to read and learn from your posts. |

I know you haven't been around a lot recently, but I can remember when you were more... I remember many old faces if I'm reminded... seems we're losing most of the professional level help over the last year and I think this may the proverbial straw for many... I'd love to say it's all M, but Phillip already had the ball rolling... :: shrug :: it's just not the same place any more and I'm sad to see it go... but I understand why so many are throwing in the towel... me I'm stubborn and trying to hang... but I wonder more and more why...

Seriously LSL is much better now than 2 years ago when I had my break. There was no mono, and I had to split a script in 2 just because of too many nested else if. There are also plenty new functions to play with (such as the llDetectedTouchST() and the others).
Well not new for you but for me they are hehe. Scripting forums are closing, well it's sad but I'm sure replacements will be found. Forums have their utility but there are other ways/place to communicate, such as groups and sandboxes anyway. _____________________
