I made an attempt at php based off of Jarod's frame bar, with little change to the appearance.
That's pretty awesome! :D

A little Linden birdy told us we where doing it the really hardway. Because it turns out to be real simple to change the homepage of the F1 help browser.
Open: c:\Documents and Settings\WindowsUserName\Application Data\SecondLife\user_settings\settings.ini
and add: HtmlHelpHomePage http://www.google.com/
Or any other website.
Our mucking in the exe did help us find the proper name of the setting, so not all was pointless. :)

Thanks Chandra Page for the quick thinking.

On this note does it record any type of history. cookies and such. oh and btw major props figuring this one out.

curious concept

Anything you enter on the web is now reported as coming from a completely different ip address as yours ( could be handy for griefers and fraudsters - YOUR IP ADDRESS HAS BEEN RECORDED - "so what" it's not mine )

Also it does not apply any filters associated with your pc ( as mentioned ) so bye bye net nanny etc etc ( but there are no under age people here are there ? )

So i can now happily post on someones blog and liable them to hell and back without fear that they will ever trace it back to me

Thanks LL

( A little more thought required perhaps before letting this one lose i think )

Adriana, the browser is completly client side. That means that your ip will be used.

I didn't dare to try that yet. :D

edit: logged in and tried opening the current M2. Much to my surprise, it didn't crash the client. It opened it at full size, so that I could only see the upper left hand corner of the first page. There were no scroll bars or other controls. I logged out.

About that time, I noticed an icon in my tray for the Adobe Reader Update Manager, which appeared to be valiantly trying to update the reader. So I logged back in and waited. After a while, SL crashed. I finished running the Adobe update... we'll see what happens.

Google Video works inside SL...this is great...

Edit: Although you cannot interact with the video (pause it, rewind it, etc.) it just plays straight through.

Go to a site that records your ip

I tried before posting - it was NOT my IP

I concur. I visited a few "what's my IP?" sites and they all showed my IP. Adriana, since the IP that you see being revealed is not your real IP, can you tell us that IP (the one that's being revealed?)

Maybe if we know what it is, we can shed some light on what's happening.

LL, this is step #1 for SL becomming a actual software *platform*. If you really want SL to become a platform, you need to make it easier for peopel to integrate it into their lives.

Just improve the browser, or allow us to integrate another of our choice (FireFox would be a prime idea).

Next step: E-mail Client.

Further ideas: Allow a representation of our desktop icons to overlay our screen.

*BONUS*: Let Web, E-mail, Desktop windows and others be able to be pused back, aside, away, etc, in a 3D vitural space overlaying our view. Even make it a buttonpres to "minimize' the windows out of the way of your SL view.

SL has *SO* much potential to become a true software platform. PLEASE embrace this.

Why use SL to browse the internet in a little window when you can just alt-tab to a browser and do it full screen and hassle free?

Lewis

becuase it takes forever to switch back and fourth, on my 1280x1024 monitor the SL window is a tiny jumbled cluster FK and ever since 1.9 i cant alt tab, and alt enter crashes the SL client one out of 3 times

Javascript + iFrame based. You just type the URL in the field at the top, hit Go, and the website is loaded in the iframe below.

Use this type of solution at work for building GET strings for internal sites.

Yes, I agree, it's always dreaded and crash-prone (and slow) to alt-tab between full-screen SL and the browser (or any program).

It already is firefox, and go write an email client in XUL+ Javascript: Wham! In-SL email!

Personally, I'd rather see SL-IM integrated into Jabber, but that's me :)

Sorry to bring an old post back but I tried adding this setting and it just won't work. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I based it off of what Frans mentioned about the INI. Did they remove this capability?

Huh?

Who filters your web traffic for viruses et al when you browse outside the Second Life client?

will my antivirus/firewall work from inside sl to block potentially damaging content?

Turn the computer on, it logs in, walk around you house and click icons on the walls to launch apps/games! :F Bahahaha.
