For just a few seconds, the sun looked normal.

While sending that snapshot to Snapzilla, it changed to this:

The second shot here looks to me like there is a bug in the program, not a decision to change the look of the sun.

On first reading, I took your post one way, then upon re-reading it, I took it the other way. On re-reading it again, I can't tell what to make of it, and further, I'm not sure how to interpret your post that I'm responding to now.

I edited the post because it was too confrontational, too much of an "interpersonal conflict" sort of comment. You know the old saying, "You'll abolish more suns with honey than with vinegar." Something like that.

Incidentally, if one uses the Client Rendering Types commands, or Control Alt Shift 12345657890-=/, to disable all rendering, so you have no Simple, no Alpha, no Tree, no character, surfacepatch, sky, water, ground, volume, grass, clouds, particles, or bump, guess what still shows up?

Your name tag, and the sun.

When all life's renderings
have come undone
What's left's a name
and ghostly sun.

I don't show my own nametag on my screen, so for me it would just be... the sun :-(

No day is truly complete without making a comment about how nice it would be to have a smaller sun that isn't surround by a nearly opaque circular shield and which doesn't turn the whole sky yellow.

From: Sungarden
Too big sun
Why'd you come
and block out half the sky
too big sun
why'd you come
why'd you come?

too big sun
why'd you come
and burnt out all our eyes
too big sun
why'd you come
why'd you come

This would be prime time for those who like the current sky to produce some screenshots of it while it's still possible.

Also, in the event the new sky system renders the purpose of the "Abolish the Sun!®" organization obsolete, the organization will be repurposed to support the elimination of the real life Earth's sun, Sol.

I paid good money for the "Abolish the Sun!®" stationery and business cards and I'm certainly not going to let it go to waste.

I'm afraid that instead of abolishing the sun LL has decided to abolish the clouds.

I guess I can re-purpose the Abolish the Sun!® group to be the Abolish the Sky!® group; that way at least I'll be able to get some use out of the monogrammed handkerchiefs.

Second Life is a realm of imagination...not reality. Second Life is based on reality, merely because we are creatures of habit, and we demand structure and pattern. This, my friends, is the bane of our existence--even in the real-world.

I loved what Erin T said in the first page of posts--things like, "why do we need staircases when we can fly..." This is so true. This is exactly the mold I want to break. Why not completely re-think a world based on the new laws and principles? Now, don't get me wrong, I love a great reproduction, or mirror-reality of what is real...I'm not saying I want SL to be completely different from what we know now, but I would like people to think outside the box...and to be honest, there are a lot of people that DO think outside the box.

If you fly around randomly (how many people really do this without searching or teleporting?), you will see some pretty outlandish stuff, based on no reality I'VE seen.

Why do chairs and tables need legs? Why do buildings need doors? Why do people ask for realism, but never model light fixtures in their establishments?

Perhaps some day, an engine similar to Valve's Halflife 2 engine will be put in place for SL...that way a chair WOULD need legs to stand...engines like the Source engine work with gravity, structure, weight, and buoyancy...now THAT will be cool. (I give it 10 years)

My point being...think outside the box. Create for a new world.

(recommended reading for the subject: Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions, by Edwin Abbott --online book available here:

Heh, the other day I logged in and looked out at the horizon and for a brief moment I thought someone had crafted a really slick atomic explosion. I actually looked for the mushroom cloud. I think I tend to force noon when I log so I hadn't noticed the new sun yet. But I assume I'll get used to it.
