I hate this thing and I want to be rid of it.
Once when I started the program lately, for just an instant the old sun was visible. It was so nice to see the old sun and not this stupid retarded looking oversized sun. Unfortunately the pleasure of seeing the old properly sized sun only lasted an instant. _____________________

To be fair, I'm not a big fan of the look of it either - but you gotta love that we have this virtual, limitless world, where people can fly, and yet we build staircases. There is no rain or sun, yet we build roofs and walls. We don't eat or drink or poop, but we buy or build a house and fit it out with the rooms our human self would find useful but our av just wanders through aimlessly. And people complain that 'the sun doesn't look the right size'.
I'm guilty of the same thing, but I'm amused by the fact that I am. The proper size?! |

Right size?
thats a laugh, how many of our avis are "right sized"? You can't really be telling me that most of the (real) world's population is over six feet tall can you? Quite a lot of SL's doors are so huge that a cathedral would get an inferiority complex just looking at them, and you are worried about he sun being a little over sized? Most of what your looking at is the glow anyway (don't stare at the sun for too long, you will burn your avi's eyes out... ![]() |

Suzanne, are you never happy?? In the years that i have been reading these threads.. you are never happy with anything LL does. Comments about other user's psyches are pretty much alway inappropriate and most often just plain wrong. If you are really concerned with how happy I am, and you want to do something to make me happier, then instead of complaining about what I choose to express in the forums, join me in the campaign to Abolish The Sun! ® Abolish The Sun! is a wholly owned subsidiary of Destroy the Whole Stinkin' Universe, Inc.® _____________________

I love the sun now, it's absolutely BEAUTIFUL! One person's meat is another person's poison. Options are nice. The sun would be ok if it was smaller, and looked like the sun, instead of a big yellow fluorescent construction paper circle. I mean, it's only about 25 to 50 times the area it should be. I hate the sun now, it's absolutely RIDICULOUS LOOKING AND UGLY! I love options, options are absolutely BEAUTIFUL! _____________________

Maybe the Linden staff needs super bright lighting so they can read the small print on our upcoming verification ID cards from their perches high up in the SL skies ...

Hmm, Oodlemi's visitor map is interesting - one could do that in SL, just have a script ask people what country they are from - might be interesting.
Oh yeah, almost forget, abolish the sun. Now! Since the beginning of time man has yearned to destroy the sun. I will do the next best thing...block it out! My idol. _____________________

The sun would be ok if it was smaller, and looked like the sun, instead of a big yellow fluorescent construction paper circle. Yes. And I like the grass to look like grass - have you noticed how a lot of the land textures just aren't quite right? And how most of those snow-topped mountains wouldn't have the right conditions for snow considering their elevation and locatlity? Personally, in this imaginary, inventive, creative and ever-changing world I find it ugly and an affront to how things in the Real World ought to look. Come to think of it, half the buildings here wouldn't even support their own weight. It's just stupid, and for the most part ugly, because it's not how I think it should look - people are just making what they want, willy-nilly, without ANY concern for reality. We have the real world for making things that work and should look how they should - can't we for once look at it and make sure SL sticks to the rules? I'm with you! We should DEMAND that our fantasy world look RIGHT based on our real-world comparissons! |

Yeah Erin, the sun LL provided for years was a BAD SUN, and anyone that liked it better than the new sun is a BAD PERSON that likes BAD THINGS and wants to DESTROY our FANTASIES. If LL ever changes the sun from what it is now it will be the END of SECOND LIFE because only a sun that is exactly like the current sun is COMPATIBLE with FANTASY WORLDS.
I guess that explains why Second Life was so OPPRESSIVE and DEVOID OF IMAGINATION prior to the reign of the new ONE TRUE SUN. In fact, prior to the appearance of the new sun, I thought Second Life was a spreadsheet program. ![]() ![]() _____________________

How come I'm the big bad freak-out monster all of a sudden? I thought that was the point I was making.
Crap, sorry, did I miss the irony tags out of my post?! (and who's Leroy and why?) *raises hand* Miss, I don't gettit, I want out of this thread! I was wrong to play with the grown-ups with their insane argument powers. I promise I won't come back until I've learned not to be confused by enormous jumps in logic! Edit: In the time it took me to hit 'post reply' Leroy has vanished from your post and now I really REALLY want to know what that was all about ![]() |

How come I'm the big bad freak-out monster all of a sudden? I thought that was the point I was making. On first reading, I took your post one way, then upon re-reading it, I took it the other way. On re-reading it again, I can't tell what to make of it, and further, I'm not sure how to interpret your post that I'm responding to now. I edited the post because it was too confrontational, too much of an "interpersonal conflict" sort of comment. You know the old saying, "You'll abolish more suns with honey than with vinegar." Something like that. Incidentally, if one uses the Client Rendering Types commands, or Control Alt Shift 12345657890-=/, to disable all rendering, so you have no Simple, no Alpha, no Tree, no character, surfacepatch, sky, water, ground, volume, grass, clouds, particles, or bump, guess what still shows up? Your name tag, and the sun. ![]() When all life's renderings have come undone What's left's a name and ghostly sun. _____________________

The Sun annouces its retirement!
05-13-2007 09:09
From Astrophysics Today -
Sol, the sun, Earth's nearest star, announced in a press release today that it would soon be retiring. "It's not a sudden decision," wrote the sun; "it was really nice long ago before humans arrived, and even after humans arrived it was nice for a while. Some of the humans even worshipped me as a god - man, that makes a celestial body feel real good, being worshipped. As humans got more advanced, though, they started thinking of me as just another star, and once they understood nuclear physics, they started thinking of me as just a perpetual hydrogen bomb. Who wants to be thought of as just a big bomb? But the thing that finally convinced it was time to retire was that sun in the sky at Second Life. That thing is huge! Now, instead of being worshipped, or at least thought of as a big ball of plasma, after seeing that monstrously big sun in the Second Life sky, people will look at me and think "Refrigerator bulb." It's not easy fusing hydrogen into helium all the time; I'd like to at least get a little respect. So that's enough. I'm quitting." The Sun's retirement will of course mean an end to all life on earth, which is to say, all known life in the universe. Questioned about their role in the impending cessation of all known life, Linden Lab spokespersons declined to comment beyond suggesting that anyone experiencing the cessation of all known life in the entire universe should check the knowlegebase and call the toll free support number during office hours. _____________________
