From: Koose DeGroot Well Nam, Im standing here once again waiting to give you my money. Hopefully by the time you release this, my computer will be back from Best Buy where they have decided to keep it for 3 weeks during the holidays to fix it ... Indeed, this style of beard has been pounded into the ground by every male skin maker known to SL, but if I know Nam, there will be a selection of facial hair unyet seen to his faithful customers. Sorry to hear about your bad luck with Best Buy, Koose. I stopped buying anything from them a while back just because of that annoying trend in service. As far as beards go, don't be fooled by the look of the preview image in this post. That particular beard/gotee is so common because it is often the style embedded in the source images, not to mention it has been quite popular with residents. I have since sampled the beard out and put several on separate layers from the skin. Those who know what I have done with the female GX1.0 makeovers may extrapolate from there. When I am ready to release the skin(s), a full range of examples will be posted at my store and on my web site.

From: Namssor Daguerre Thanks Aces & Liz! Are any guys looking at this post, or is it just the women? . Yea, I'm a guy and I'm looking. I think it looks good. The detail on the feet, knees and head are incredible. I'm not too sold on the arms though. From this one picture there seems something blurry with the arms. The face is very detailed and amazing. Do you have another pic or two you could post?

I'll look at posting a few more close-ups of the arms, pecs, and any other spots that are a bit vague when I have the chance. In the mean time, thanks for all the feedback. It's very much appreciated!

More Feedback
01-05-2007 06:45
Hey Nam, Had the two men in my life take a look cuz I was so impressed...they both say the nipples are in the wrong place. I know there is something odd that sl does when you put them in the right place, but I have seen skins in sl get that right...If the man is a skinny man, then the nipples are fine, but with the kind of definition he has, maybe they are a little lower on the actual model? I 'unno...so many male skins have man boobs in sl, this one not so much cuz the shading is done so well. (I like the skins as they are, this is their feedback, although I have given this kind of feedback to other designers as well.)

I really. really hate what the polymesh does to texture distortion around the chest area (curse whoever designed it!), especially on female avatar shapes. I'll probably do some more experimentation with body shapes to see what I can and can't get away with there. If the results are good (not too much distortion), I'll lower the nipples. This skin really is designed around a medium muscular build. The avatar is clunky enough as it is, and when people tweak the sliders up to "maximum pumpitude" I actually have to look the other way because it gives me a headache. As some are well aware, I stare at this stuff for hours at a time while working on the textures. The last thing I need is an eyeball injury from a bad avatar shape

Here's another shot with alternate body hair options and slightly darker nipples. As I suspected, the polygons prevented the nipples from being moved down much further without gross distortion. They are, however, slightly lower and farther out. I tested the pectoral shape slider at 50% and below with minimal distortion. I didn't bother adjusting for above 50% becuase I figure not too many will be going for the sunken chest look

That looks great! I think the hairless option has a bit much highlighting on the pecs as well..(this from the boyfriend...says it makes them look rounded and boob-like). I'm liking the hairy guy...think I'll get me one... lol I have to add, I am VERY picky about the collar bone and you've made this girl very very happy.

Yeah like I mentioned early on- I`m no fan of the pecs, they look too round. That alone would stop me from buying the skin, depending on the price I may buy it and just not take my shirt off. This isnt meant to be offensive, could be a personal preference issue but something does look "odd". Other than that, by the looks of it, this is definitely a top skin. Good luck with it.

Here's the last edit to the pecs (with the exception of a few pigmentation issues around the nipples) and I'm afraid I have to move on to keep within the timeline.

Here are the final 5 facial hair options included in the skin kit. There will be more to come, but will be sold separately. The skin kit is now available at the store and posted in the New Products forum.

From: Bourne Furse I found your skin store Namssor! I just have to say that I am IN LOVE with the male skin. It is so awesome! I get compliments on how realistic it looks ALL the time. I have people talking to me that normally wouldn't talk to me, because of how good I look. (I love that you can use your own shape, because I found one that looks almost exactly like me in RL) Sometimes I find myself spinning the camera-view around so that I can look at myself, instead of the person I am chatting with. HAHA - I feel like an egotistical man who carries a mirror around with him to always look at himself! I only have one concern or problem about the skin. When I have the shirt off (I like wearing boarshorts and sandals, with no shirt in SL) There is like a streak of light skin on top of the shoulders. It looks like I rubbed 50 SPF sun tan lotion on top of them, and got a tan on my chest and back. I've tried it in all lightings (Sunrise, Noon, Sunset, and Midnight) and you can see it well on all of them (except the Midnight of course, but I keep bumping into things in the dark ). Any chance this can be fixed? Not sure if it happened when you seamed it together? Seeing how I have never built a skin, I'm not sure of the process. Although I think the skin was well worth the money (not cheap), I would like to look as good as possible. Please let me know what I can do, or what you might be able to do! Thanks! Bourne There might come a time when I revisit the "Adam" body, or make some new bodies that will be interchangeable with different heads (including Adam) depending upon skin tone. I have several male skins in the works at various stages of completion with tanner skin tones and different muscle structure. The highlighting on Adam's shoulders is a possible design change. Capturing 360 degree lighting is sometimes a compromise on definition, and I try to keep the best of both. Right now I need to stay focused on some other tasks at hand. These skins involve many, many hours of my time. If I could clone myself in RL, believe me, I would. I am not actively working on male skins at the moment with the exception of custom work on commissioned avatar portraits. P.S. I'm replying in this older thread because I want the other one to stay on topic.

Thank you Namssor! I tried looking for this thread earlier, but no luck. Thanks for bringing it into the light. I have no doubt these skins take many many hours. But from a satisfied customer, it is well worth it. I have already spent probably 30 hours this weekend alone inside SL showing it off to people. Its just too bad there is no magic button, and *BAM* its all done for you. I wish I was this talented, then I could work on my own. Good luck with the female skins, can't wait to see some realistic hotties walking around!

Is it time?

Nam, Now that the Evie model is released, and you have a set of nails out...will you be revisiting the Adam model? I've had it for a month now and absolutely love it, and curious if there are going to be any updates for it. Especially skin tone. I was hoping to have the option to get a little tanner. I can't help but notice that the skin is very pale. Which is great right now, since I'm doing dark hair and dark clothing. But when I change into my boardshorts and tank top...I would like to show off a tan. Do you have any plans for the Adam model in the future? Or is he a done deal until your MGX3.0 models start being made? Bourne

I have a really ignorant type question...
I visited SS Labs yesterday. The skins are amazingly detailed, but unlike just about every other skin in SL, they appear to have no makeup. I don't understand how Nam's system is supposed to work...
1. What makeup options are available, and how can you preview them? And...
2. No offense meant, and as I said the realism is fantastic, but what exactly makes these skins worth ten times what the competition charges?

Just to give an update to a few inquiries: The purpose of this and some of my other preview/sneak peak threads is to get feedback before I release something, and maybe correct a few things that can be made better in the eyes of many rather than just my two eyes . Adam has been on the market for quite a while now, and several other male skins are on the drawing board. I am more likely to apply some of the feedback suggestions I get in these threads to development of newer skins rather than ones that have been released already. Adam's head texture could possibly be made interchangeable with other skin bodies and vise versa to better accomodate skin tone variations and more options (Adam's color gamut is a lot tighter than Evie's). Almost none of my skins, male or female, come with makeup applied. The female skins have quite an extensive library of makeovers (they are all done by custom order from multiple sample skins available in the store). The existing makeovers (facial and body hair only at this point) for the male skins are already included in the skin kits. They are Fat packs with 12 skins included (thus, the generally higher price tag). Those "Fat Packs" will get split up once I have enough options to warrant filling the upper two levels in the store with makeovers for males. At that point I will sell individual Adam, Zhan, etc. skins at a lower price. There are quite a few male makeovers on the drawing board, so please be patient. This stuff takes huge amounts of my time (months of work in between freelance RL work) to get it just right, so I don't set release dates until 99% of the work is complete. I don't follow the crowd in skin design, or in skin pricing (I gather). Skin sales for males and females have been good, so I have not priced myself out of the market. On the contrary, I'm getting a LOT of positive feedback and very little complaint about why I don't charge less for skins. I never claim any of my skins look any better than the next persons. How would I back up such a claim? It all boils down to a matter of personal taste for most people, and what I create reflects my personal tastes, somewhat (which tend to go in the opposite direction of the cookie-cutter porno type business'). Those tastes seem to be in sync with a large enough segement of the SL population to keep me in business. My advice is: If my skins do not suit your personal tastes and "Wow" you, then they're not worth it. People that end up buying my skins are customers that are in love with the way the skin looks on thier avatar, and they come back for repeat business to get them customized. If I sold my skins for L$500-L$200, I doubt that would happen, even if I did make more $$ selling them in the long run.

Thank you, Nam.
As I said, my question wasn't intended as a dig. I really do want to understand how your product works, and is packaged. It might have been SL lag, but when I visited your store, all I managed to see was the basic skins, and the nail makeovers...there weren't any pics of facial makeovers, only black squares.
Also, I wasn't clear that the quoted price was for a fat 12 pack. That makes the pricing much more in line with what I've come to expect for a quality skin. Thank you.
I'll give the demo another try. I've been quite happy with my skins from another maker, but I still want to give this "photoreal" approach a fair shake.

I'm glad you asked your question. My maverick approach to skinning is not intended to make things more difficult for anyone, although I am well aware it probably costs me a few customers that don't want to bother. It's intended to offer better options (nothing is pre-defined as far as combining different looks) and reward repeat business (customers spend a fraction of the cost of a new skin when ordering makeovers for a skin they already own). I may have to pull out my Lag-O-Meter and test the store location for issues. Most of the makeover textures are 256x256, so they should load fairly quickly. I could remove some scripting to help speed things up a bit, if need be.

I have purchased couple weeks ago your Adam skin. I would love to see Adam skin with optional hair texture. I am now using blond-prim hair over Adam skin and some dark neck skin are visible if you look closely. Actually you can see how it looks from my recent gallery post you sexy avater (or something like that) topic.
