This is my first venture into photo-projection skins. It's about 90% photosourced. The rest is hand rendered. Next steps will be rendering the body hair layers. The head is already finished.

Nam, you are, by far, the BEST skin maker in SL. This is gorgeous. I'll have to get it for my man. LOL

Thanks Aces & Liz!

Are any guys looking at this post, or is it just the women?

I should also mention that the first skins in this line will probably not be available until mid to late Jan 2007 because each skin tone will not be a color adjusted carbon copy of another skin tone, rather unique textures referenced from completely different sources.

That looks real nice - I took a long time looking for a skin that was made in a similar fashion because I wanted some realism to my AV. You're doing great!!

At least one guy looking at them :-)

But I must ask this - are these going to be useable in the same manner the originals were, i.e. on my PC? I have been spoiled by that ability to use tattoos in the normal way and still have a killer skin. I would probably not bother to change if these were plain SL tattoo-style skins.

I'm afraid the client side skin hack won't be a feature with these skins. I will, however, add a special option that I will only reveal after the release of the first skins.

I agree, the detail is great! I wouldn't buy it myself, simply because I don't like facial hair (beards, goaties and such). But it is a very good quality skin, I have to admit that.

There is already a clean shaven option for this particular face. Since the master files are 2048x2048, it is quite easy to sample out individual hair follicles on light facial hair without a trace of photo editing.

In a past life I used to run a digital photo restoration business that dealt with heavy damage repair. I'd get portions of a portrait face and have to reconstruct the rest of the photo from it. I got really clever with sampling and distorting, but that wasn't the hard part. The hardest part was producing a quality reproduction of the original print, which was often 8x10 or larger. B&W Arial photography negatives were used as the first generation copy. Those were drum scanned at a rediculously huge size (for 10 years ago, 300+ mb) for the second generation copy. A 4x5 digital film printer was used for the 3rd generation copy, and that was then printed onto an archival gelatin silver print for the 4th and final generation copy. After all was said and done, keeping the surviving details of the original print was the greatest challenge.

Here in SL a 512x512 target size is piece of cake when I get to start with 4000x3000 originals.

Is this almost complete and where can we purchase when it is?

Are the pectorals staying like that or will there be any editing done on them?

I hope to release the first skins by end of Jan, 2007. They will be part of a much larger product line for males. Currently only one option for male skins is available (sadly, due to the actions of less than honest people). Everything is always available at my Koss store location. Complete details will be made available at secondskinlabs.com and you can also request an invite to the group "House Arisia", which I use to give out press releases.

Nothing is set in stone at this point (including the pecs). I am completely open to suggestions. In regards to the pecs, a few things must be considered:

1. I morphed the shadows on the pecs to map correctly to the shape of the polygons on the default male mannequin. What happens in a dynamic lighting situation is one gets a double shadow (textured shadow + the dynamic shadow) if they are not closely aligned.

2. The nipples are also mapped to the converging polys at the center of the pecs. Placement elsewhere requires distorting the original image to compensate for polygonal stretch and a slight loss of detail. Also, changing the avatar shape dynamically will affect the nipple roundness more dramatically if they are not mapped to the converging center polygons.

Will you have some with chest hair? I recently went shopping with a friend who prefered to have chest hair on his av but discovered most skins were bare. We found some, but the detail was either uneven or too fuzzy overall...

Yes, the skin previewed here already has a version with full body hair. I always create my skins with effects layers so I can go back and alter hair color and other things like that :).

You can check this thread. You may need to do some scrolling, but just look for my easy to spot flaming shield avatar below my name in the left column.

The womens skins are in an early development stage right now. I need to test market a few things with the male skins first.

You have probably already checked them out, but I do have some hand rendered female skins available. You can check them out at secondskinlabs.com.

Well Nam, Im standing here once again waiting to give you my money. Hopefully by the time you release this, my computer will be back from Best Buy where they have decided to keep it for 3 weeks during the holidays to fix it ...

Indeed, this style of beard has been pounded into the ground by every male skin maker known to SL, but if I know Nam, there will be a selection of facial hair unyet seen to his faithful customers.
