Like...seriously. Stuff like this makes me sick. I feel bad for people who are so full of hate...

I think it's not fair for the German government to effectively erase its history. I mean, the majority of the German population just stood there as my family was butchered...it's not exactly fair for them to just act like everything was cheery. Like Elie Wiesel said, apathy is the greatest evil, and I think that by erasing and basically trying to avoid talking about HaShoah, the german populace is affectively trying to avoid the general apathy.

Please DO NOT assume anything about THE German populace. I'm German and we had the topic of Hitler et al. being talked to death at school. We are neither ignorant nor apathetic about that. And believe it or not, my grandparents were NO Nazis, on the contrary, my grandad almost ended up in jail because he refused orders. We DO NOT erase history, we try to stop it from happening again. And I do not want to see that crap in SL, and I'm all for banning right-wing idiots from SL.

Thanks for posting that as I wanted to but lacked authoritativeness. If only the US manifested as much shame for our past dark deeds as DE does, the world might be a better place.

I can vouch for the Germans I have met and their countries strict laws against such things, in fact I believe they are as harsh as Israels themselves. Some of the nicest people on earth and as well opened minded. Anyone with intellegence knows there is a rotten SOB everywhere you go. This is coming from an Israeli/American Jew. I was greeted by 2 gentile German kibbutz volunteers when I arrived in Israel in 1999 as an emigrant. I'll never forget that moment or them.

I had one of these flags outside my SL home for over a week I think it may have been. Sorry but shame on anyone who thinks this type of abuse should be permitted and that there is no way to prevent this person from starting new accounts. Linden must put a permanent stop to such greifers or it simply reflects on how loose their own morals are. I deffinately feel it must be dealt with in severity or at some point the whole lot will be.

Who's more of a right wing idiot? The dipshit that puts up a flag in some lame attempt at griefing or the dipshit that thinks a symbol should be banned because it's personally offensive.

My vote is for #2.

Agreed.

I mean seriously... if someone wanted to create a scene in which someone was burning a nazi flag... they'd still get in trouble for it.

symbols are just symbols.

It's an IMAGE in a VIDEO GAME.

A political symbol of a failed political party.

Relax!

No one is burning jews. No one is advocating or comitting violence, virtual or real.

Its a PICTURE.

Its harmless.....move on.

symbols are just symbols.
Except for when a symbol helped mutate your homeland into something unconscionable.

The war is over and clearer heads prevail and they know that there are still people who believed in the Reich. The German decision to ban the symbol was quite necessary to help avoid any backsliding.

Of course, I'm sure some people probably held basement post-war Nazi meetings, but basements are far different than large public spaces where an actual movement could take hold.

I can't see any more rational means to effect this than the prohibition of the symbol.

I <3 provincial amerikans.

Well, to complete the thought, symbols are just symbols, words are just words, guns are just guns.

Having them is usually okay... but it's how we choose to use symbols, words and guns that ends up in people getting hurt.

Proudly displaying an offensive symbol, yelling hateful prejudiced epithets and threats, waving guns around... are menacing and destroy people's sense of safety and security.

Unfortunately usage is open to interpretation. It is easier to convict someone of possession than it is to presume what their intended use of something was, which is, I suppose, compelling enough reason to phrase laws in ways to punish possession.

I don't like it.... but fortunately possessing opinions is still legal.

Well unforetunately many people know these symbols offend other people and use them primarily for just that purpose, what does some 15yo know really about WW2 when he spams a sim full of replicating swastika's?

When a Nazi symbol is used as a reproduction of buildings, uniforms & events, no problem but when some young idiot born decades after the events starts using as a tool of power to incite hatred and just plain grief people they need the arses kicked.

Again ,not trampling on anyone's sensitivities, but this is the danger we tread on in my opinion. depending on the context, an images' Historical Accuracy can be crucial. While a video game may not demand this accuracy, sometimes this is where things start, in innocuous places. First games, then TV and Movies, artwork, Museum exhibits, then History books, then History itself is sanitized. It is a slippery slope for sure. And ironically a slope containing the very same ideas we re trying to protect ourselves from.We become what we despise.
