Then and Now - post pics of yourself as newbie and as you are today!

Well, I haven't been here very long (Just since April) and I came in with some 3D experience and a lot of annoying questions about avatar adjustments ("Where did you get your hair?" "Where are good places for skins?" "Do these pants make my butt look big?" so I didn't stay in the default phase for more than the first couple of days and didn't take any pics of that.

But... well, my avvie's still changed a fair bit in that time:

Some of these are pretty funny... There's always the addition of prim hair, a good skin, and good clothes...which means things that cost L$.

I had the generic, ugly skin and bad spiked red hair (linden hair). After I started buying L$, I improved my appearance.

I didn't take screenshots from when I first joined. I joined like 8 months ago and when I started, I played to grief/annoy people. It quickly got old I found better things to do.

This makes me wonder when LL is going to improve their default skin. It's ugly as hell.

The two on the right were taken prior to the advent of skins, so that's the typical SL putty skin. Don't you just love the texturing job in that Feb 2004 room? LOL Someone didn't understand repeats yet.

On the upper left is my very first custom skin from Munchflower Zaius. Great skin but horrible tattoos

On the lower left is a Photoshop image I did for my badge at the first SLCC in NYC. That's using my Second Skin, which I doubt I will ever give up. It installs on your PC and retains the use of all the tattoo layers. No longer available, but an absolutely awesome skin from SecondSkin Labs. I look the same today, although I change tats a lot.

From Day one to today, not really a lot of changes. I like Cutter the way he is

Note that there are a number of much nicer looking full avatars in evey resident's library folder, and depending on how you sign up (there are a lot of different 'portals' now with different signup wizards), you have a choice of better starting avatars, but I still see the original newbie avs in-world all the time.

I hardly spent any cash to get myself enhanced from basic newbie. Free CS passport Malibu skin did me fine for months, though I have moved on to another CS one now that cost me a bit. All my clothes were either free or home-made, while my hair is styled by meee!

I think you may find--in the near future--LL setting up more detailed, realistic skins for newborns. I think when competitors start coming out with 'prettier' virtual worlds, they will want to wow the citizen from the get-go...and a custom skin choice-set would do just the trick.

I picture Michael's "then" appearance as something like the Tin Woodman, or maybe Bender. That was before he discovered electropneudraulics, of course.

I know I posted a picture before, but I just found my actual first picture and created a mosaic.

The 'Nightclub' avatar skins are relatively OK, although the female version is better than the (orangey) male. They were made by Munchflower Zaius of Nomine...I assume they're some of her older work.

Aren't they already providing better skins for the CSI folks? Even if they improve the skins I don't think it will hurt the skin trade. People don't like being clones.

The first pic is the earliest i have. I had already done a few changes, but I still had newbie hair, skin and clothes. The second one is recent but I still often change my skin and hair.

I think one should always remember where they came from

1st is my first day in SL, 2nd is in 06, and the final is just last week ^^

Now that is one heck of an improvment! er.. not that the other was bad.. um.. "cough" you're lovely before and after.. um...

The first was taken 2 weeks into SL after I bought land.. one of the newbie skins.. I was happy with it until I got my smile attachemtn and realized my avatar had black teeth!!! So I found the one I wear in pic 2 and wear today.. still wear my monkey too!

What a fun idea! I joined about this time last year! I even found the hair and outfit I posed in that first picture at a welcome center. Enjoy!
