I went by there earlier today and I have to say, all of you involved should take a bow - Midnight City is amazing!
Not only does it look great with tons of nice details, but it was amazingly smooth and I experienced little to no lag. No small feat considering all that is there and how detailed and immersive the city is.
Excellent job!

Excellent job! I have to agree with this. I have crappy computer and sometimes it is no fun to visit someplaces. But MC is smooth enough to visit and look around. Offcourse that will change when all those little stores will be filled up with utter crap.

Thanks for the kind words. I was the one that did most of the city infrastructure (the roads, bridge, dock, and most of the buildings). Performance is absolutely the highest priority in MC. The textures are mostly in the 256x256 range and are reused extensively. We are trying to keep the prim count down to about half of the 15000 the sim can support.
I have also earned the nickname "The Constable" among Midnight City's residents because I have been agrerssively enforcing texture size and prim count rules (sometimes police brutality is involved). So I don't anticipate any performance problems when the rest of our residents move into our stores.

The City is absolutely stunning. I visited for the first time tonight, and I was stunned by the urban beauty which surrounded me. I'm hopeful (if there is a god and he is kind and benevolent) that I will some day be able to dwell in such a magnificent build. I see this build, as well as other urban builds like Chinatown, as representing the future of SL.
I took dozens of snapshots while there. Attached is one at the gate of a marvelous little park.

Thanks for all the comments everyone . Yes we're trying to keep lag down as much as possible though we're aware that there's only so much we can do. Keeping local lighting off is a must when you visit Midnight City by the way lol. Yes, Aimee built alot of the structure of Midnight City and did a wonderful job! I'd also like to thank everyone who's taken the time to build their wonderful shops (within the law lol), Nylon and Toast's great art work and builds, si Money, Water Rogers, and Ezhar Fairlight for their scripting and effects, Forseti for his work on the lovely park and I love Lordfly's fireflies, and Mistress for buying the island in the first place along with all her work. Water and myself have been working on a bar for the city that will hopefully be done soon lol (if I stop procrastinating). Thanks to everyone who's added their own special touches to Midnight City and for the great group of people that "live" there haha . We had our first event the other night for Delairen's birthday party at Nylon's "Milk Bar", which is a great little build with great atmosphere. For as many people as we had packed in there we only had a small amount of lag and I was amazed haha. I love to see all the pictures people are taking in Midnight City so keep up the great work!

From: Ryntha Suavage it's just a regular city with maybe black and white textures. : hey now, that's actually a pretty good idea...

I started my film noir project (city with desaturated textures) a little while back but put it on hold. Rather than Sin city, however, I was going for something a little more Alfred Hitchcock. http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=6388&sort=PictureID+deschttp://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=6382&sort=PictureID+descI may be interested in starting this up again when I am done with the new *PREEN* line if anybody has some land available.

add a bit more contrast and a darker feel all together and you have the sin city style .

Joe and I will have to go see MC, we were lucky enough to have spent moments in Chinatown... hope MC is still up.

Yes. Midnight City is up indefinitely. While nothing in SL last forever (and rarely longer than a few months), the only reason we can think of to close MC would be to build a bigger, better one sometime in the future. But this doesn't mean you can procrastinate! Get your ass over there and have a look see!

I took my friend by there yesterday, and while we didn't really shop, we wandered around and up and down and back n forth and the place is absolutely stunning, the pictures I've seen don't do it any justice, it's to die for. When's the theatre gonna work?

Can't wait, I was sooooo against the movie stream when it first came in, rented some property and refurnished it instead of using what I usually use from house to house (lol) and got THREE tv's...lmao. It's addictive now, and I can't wait to see it - I'm so gonna wait to see a proper movie at a cinema ingame til I can see it on ya'lls xD

I found the sim quite be accident a couple days ago, and wandered around for a while.. Very interesting build! Kinda fun to finally have a place worthy of driving cars(Or pickup-style landspeeders) around. The little details were an interesting touch as well. As for making cardboard boxes for people to live in.. Why doesn't anyone make bum clothes? They'd be fun! And a Drunken Stumble walk! Hehehe..
