From: Jolan Nolan As for the sandbox thing, I find that the ones that allow scripts are often cluttered with the most stuff that has nothing to do with scripting.

Yeah, very interesting, though, is that if you rez a vehicle outside of the scripts allowed sim and then move it in, the vehicle still moves. I guess the disabled scripts thing only works for objects rezzed in the sim. Kind of like flying into a no-fly sim: you can still fly, until you hit the ground, THEN the no-fly kicks in. This world is so fascinating, and its a shame to see military griefing groups mess it up because they already beat their Duke Nukem and Halo games 10 million times, and need something else to occupy their time.

SL Griefers.....
11-26-2006 10:42
don't we all have enough to worry about in the real life world?
We come to SL to be relieved from all the madness and terrorism in RL...now we have to deal with it here too?????
One word to these griefers...."If you can't stand the heat, get the f**k out of the kitchen!"

The "no scripts" setting means you can't start any new scripts. Any running when they enter the area remain running. So, your gun might still be able to fire bullets, but if the bullets depend on scripts to delivery their payload of destruction, they won't work. Similarly, any vehicle will still function, and any scripts running in your attachments will still work (though if they relay on llMessageLinked() to work, bits of them might not function as expected. And I'll second your comment about the military groups - but often as not, it's just bored kids on the adult grid. They're there for the day, or for the week until they get bored and move on to something else. In the mean time, they make life miserable for the rest of us. Most of the military groups seem to be comprised of these sorts of people, and thankfully, few of them last very long. Expect an uptick in griefing around Christmas break though, because the kiddies will all be off school for the week.

Alliance Navy holiday cheer, erm, griefing

Speaking of the holidays, heres an article that should be interesting to show how much holiday "cheer" the Alliance Navy has... http://sltimes.wordpress.com/2006/12/02/pear-tree-tosses-tea-crates-of-cheer/Another thing: about the most random things seen in the sandboxes, i keep seeing thse things that look like bugs with snouts that follows people and covers them with its tentacles or whatever they are.....why would someone make such a pointless object?

Eye beasts and how to defeat them
12-08-2006 10:17
Many of the sandbox sims have a small parcel in the center of the sim where scripting is turned off. If you're being pursued by one of these eye beasts, or banana phones or other such nuisances, go to the exact center of the sim and wait for it to follow you. As soon as it darts into the parcel, it shuts down. This not only reduces sim lag, but it gets rid of your problem too. Best of all, when the prim count on this small parcel is exceeded, it starts to return objects to the owners! So if somebody's got an eyebeast rezzer set up, he'll find his inventory suddenly overflowing with the damned things.
The reason for the no-scripting parcels in the center of the sims was something of a mystery to me at first, but I think they were put in as sort of a safety valve for the sim in case it started to get lagged down by eye beasts or other nuisances.

(pun intended), lol As far as the "Rise Of The SL Volunteer Military"...a military is supposedly made for defense of ones country...in-world, the WHOLE GRID is "our country", so if the enemy lies within that country, and is nothing more than gangs (which is what griefer groups amount to in SL... griefers is just a nice for for 'em), best ta leave it to the police (Lindens...Abuse Reports are our 911 - or 211 i think in Europe? ).

It'd be neat if anything non scripted was cleaned out faster than scripted items that are in a SCRIPTS sandbox. Also a duplicate detecting system would also be cool. Or maybe some people to periodically go in there and suspend whoever is littering... (like the one who owns that black ship)

Cordova is even worse at the moment. People spamming the place with hippie pay machines and leaving those large spaceships lying around (see pictures).

I've managed to make some pretty crazy things in the sandboxes over the weekend, such as this little guy here. 1262 prims, and it all fits in .2m. Full sized, it could probably stretch from border to border, and I had a more basic version out up in the air in goguen late at night.
Doesn't really have a point, but it does look nice, and the small one, from a distance, only looks like a box with a basic texture.

lol how incredibly useless is that ? Though, it does look pretty. If it were to stay small, I'd use 1 box with a small texture on it though. So if you have the prims to spare, go ahead and display it! - Jolan

There's no sovereignty to defend, and these people are NOT the police, regardless of what they might tell you. Banded together, the citizens have a remarkable amount of power - we are not defenseless. It may take a little more time to get results than we'd like, but we can and do affect change in SL all the time, and these militias rise and fall with the tides - there is no honor in being in one.
