Wasnt aware about such software, but somehow i suspected that might exists, thus emphasizing "rebuilding from scratch" all the time... Good to know tho, but sadly i suspect nothing can be done about it...

"Copying" anims is never something I really saw as, well, possible! I mean, you can emulate the movement, but I don't think you'd ever get an exact copy. For example, we created a spinning wheel and needed a full perms anim to go with it. We SAW an anim, and we IMd the creator asking if he'd sell us a full perms copy for our builds--we were willing to pay. He refused, so we contacted another anims designer and asked if she would do a similar anim. She did, and added some things we would have never imagined could be done! In the end, it was an improved product which we paid for! I don't see it as "duplicitous" in the least. No one has a "copyright" on how to utilize a spinning wheel, so the anim to portray that would seem to me to be fair game as well. :: shrug ::

The line between 'inspiration' and 'derivative' is fairly narrow. I hit Google with the phrase 'copyright derivative', and came up with these as the clearest authoritative sources in the first couple of pages:
http://www.copyright.org.au/information/art-design/artqa/wp0049 (see the second section) This page is focused on the visual arts, but the theory is applicable to all forms of art. http://www.legalzoom.com/legal-articles/derivative-works-copyright-law.html is even clearer. However, my personal advice to the OP is do what you feel comfortable doing. What I'd probably do in that situation is have my best friend/model sit/stand/move in a position similar to the one in the original animation, but with on her personal mannerisms, and then make my own animation based on her. (Which I have her 'model release' for.) _____________________
