Hello everyone... I have spent hours searching these forums for a complete step by step tutorial for Poser 6 animations.

I've recently purchased P6 and have no problems uploading poses... however, I'm missing a key step, or element when creating animations.

I've visited and followed Ulrika's tutorial and have no problems at all bringing in the flapping arm anim as she describes.. however, my problems begin when I attempt to create an animation that is posed in anything but a standing position.

For example.. I can animate and export a standing animation.. however, the moment I attempt to create a seated animation Ie: female avatar seated with moving foot. SL recognizes the animation (the moving foot) but in the SL previewer the 'sit pose' isn't recognized.. only the moving foot.

It's important to note that in Poser 6 I can preview and see the looped seated avatar with the moving foot... it looks perfect in P6, but once I bring it to the SL previewer I see a half seated avatar with a moving foot. It seems SL isn't recognizing all the frames..

I really need a step by step P6 animation tutorial...I'm very new to poser/poses and animations.. any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Much Thanks...
~Sky~

Hellllllo Sky:) DId you try changing the selection in the uploader where it says preview as, to sitting? and switching back and forth from priority 3 to 4 seems to make a difference depending on the preview mode as well. Hope that helps

Hello Sky,

Jesse is right. But I'd like to tell you how to search this forum. If you get problem with sitting, you'd better put down "sitting" into the search form. This forum's search requires you to put down at least four letters. So it will accept for the keyword as "sitting" but not "sit". And you'll be able to find the threads like below. Some threads may not fit your problem but others should fit.

As soon as I saw your message I fired up poser and SL to test. Unfortunately it made no difference what so ever Jesse. I toggled between priority 3 and 4.. tried to have her sit, (which appears as the SL default sit,) stand, walk. I'm still getting the same problem.

All that SL will recognize is the moving foot! *huffs*

Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate your assistance. :)

Thank you for heads up on how to search these forums! *makes note to use four letters when searching*

Unfortunately priority 3 or 4 still don't fix the problems I'm having.

I'm going to create a new sit animation and try again. I was using one I was previously testing.. but perhaps if I start a new it will rectify the problem with priority 4.

A long shot I know..but I'm at my wits end.

thanks for the reply Seagel, and the links...

hmm... I might have misread you. You mean that although you got what you wanted in the end, there was something strange in the middle of uploading? It sounds like that you are supposing to be a bug in the uploading window. OK, I'll try to create a sit pose with moving foot when I get home. Ooops, it will be the time when SL's updating... :(

Thank you so very much! I doubt it's a bug though... I'm certain i'm missing a step in the process. I spoke with Tink who recommended a few things.

1. insure that my first and last pose are the same, (still experimenting between frame 1 or 2 that should be the same as frame 60)

2. to play with the ins% in the SL previewer.

neither of which have resolved my problem. .*smacks forehead*

So, I'm sure I'm missing a critical step.

Oh how I wish there was a STEP BY STEP tutorial for beginner animator P6 users.

I appreciate any help you can offer... have a great day.

Sky, I could log-in the Preview grid and try to upload a sitting animation. I couldn't recognize any problem on the uploading window. I guess you don't understand what your problem is. Or just remark can't make yourself understood well. How about uploading your trouble animation here?

Thanks all for your replies and your assistance.

Hours of testing and retesting have helped isolate the problem.

I thought I had to press the '+' key after frame 30... I fixed my problem by eliminating that step. *smacks forhead* I knew it was something simple.

Thanks again :)

Ben Stravinskys quick fix for poser 6 problems;

Use Poser 5.

Can someone tell me what poser 6 offers that i cant do in 5? I would consider changing, only so many of the animation questions have the 'poser 6' prefix slipped onto the front lol.

LONG LIVE POSER 5!!!!!!!!!!

I believe the issue was that when Poser 6 originally came out, they added a center of gravity object to the models.. and this object was getting accidentally put into the BHV file during export.

This was a bug, and has since been fixed.. so, if you have an up-to-date version of Poser 6, you should be able to export animations that can be used in SL just fine.

Additionally, if you already exported motion captures, and have the files, I believe that Curious Labs also made a python script you can run that will strip out the extra crap... but if you still have the poser project, you could just export it again after updating your copy of poser.

As for what Poser 6 does that Poser 5 doesn't... In terms of SL, I don't think there's really a difference. Since you're just exporting skeletal animations, it doesn't really matter. Poser 6's improvements come mainly in the form of more realistic character modeling, that you'd use for renders and movies. (The new characters and hair techniques are pretty freaking awesome.)

One thing though.. the fact that Poser's rendering is not multithreaded kind of makes me unhappy. I've got a whole other 64 bit core that just sits there doing nothing while rendering scenes and movies... Although I guess it's nice to be able to use my computer normally while it's doing a massive render. :)
