Whew! Thanks to much help from computer-savvy friends I've been able to get a web page up. It's rather basic still but it contains an online Poser 5 tutorial for beginners. Hopefully, it will head off a lot of questions that new users have as well as provide those, who are missing Poser 2 models, with what they need. The tutorial is at Ulrikasheim. ~Ulrika~

Per usual my timing is wirse than my typing -(an d thats saying a lot), I finally got a copy of poser 5 and decided to venture into animation creation and decided Ulrika's tutorial wiuld be a great place to start, However it seems she is gons and the appears her webiste is unavailable. Sigh. Per chance does anyone have an offline copy they could post? - assuming Ulrika does not mind
Or know a source of another basc tutorial - the poser interface is daunting at best for someone not familiar with 3d modeling. I'm not a dummy and will probably figure it out on my own eventually however I am more than happy to be lazy and have someone else show me how to get started - thnaks for any assistance.
P.S. hmmmm - just noticed not one of my usual flippant comments in there - can't have that.... The reason I need to learn poser is so I can make an amim, ation I can use to chop off peoples heads when I become Queen!!!
There thats better
hugs,
Elva

Ulrika's tutorial opened for me this morning. It might have just been a glitch. Give it another try at http://www.ulrikasheim.org/animation/tutorial-basic.html. It would be a great loss to have her tutorial go 404.

I had some problems when trying to upload my animation said it couldnt read it. Now is the maniquin that she points out in the tutorial as good as using the one provided the lindens?
Not exactly sure why mine wouldnt upload to second life, i followed the tutorial to a tee.
Tried it again through the tutorial file and same error when i try to upload "unable to read animation file"

Her tutorial was made before making SL avatar mannequins. P2 model has a few of unwanted joints for SL. So I recommend you use SL avatar mannequins, but it is usable.
I guess you have another problem. Did you use the whole frames, that is, if you set the whole frame to 60, did you set any keyframe at the 60th frame?

oh ok thanks for clearing up the manaquin thing. As for the keyframes yes I did one at 60 also just as the tutorial shows. The animation seems to play fine in poser however.
Btw how exactly do you load the sl manaquin. I tried with importing, i get the maniquin but its like all this body parts arent cut into sections i can only select his whole body.
I have a key frame at 1, 2, 30 & 60

If 6, did you patch the latest Service Pack? If you don't get any luck, try to save your animation as the Poser file (.pz3) and load it again, then export it into bvh.

These links are not opening for me. Are there any mirrors of this tutorial, or another tutorial alltogether?

Animation Tutorial Not Longer Avaialble?
11-14-2006 15:47
Its been six months since I used Poser 5 to create a pose. Now I can't find the wonderful tutorial that Ulrika had at http://www.ulrikasheim.org/animation/tutorial-basic.html. Someone online told me that it is up and down and just to try back later. Hopefully that is so, but I thought i would ask. Does anyone have another source of a tutorial for using poser for SL? Also Ulrika provided some basic BVH files for use in SL. Not sure whey they are needed, but I recall they were. Does anyone have a link to those BVH files?

Hi!
I would appreciate a tip, too. The animation FAQ points to this thread, which points to the dead link. Any other beginner sites?
Thanks!

Willing to host
12-20-2006 08:07
I am just now finding this thread and the links to http://www.ulrikasheim.org regarding animation tutorials. Along with others, I see that the link/site itself is dead. From reading many positive remarks about this tutorial, I would be glad to host the content myself. If anyone has the original work, with permission from the author, let me know and we can get this resource back online for all to read through. - Shroomie Spaatz

Ulrika is taking some RL time for a bit. She posts every so often at Second Citizen, but is for the time being taking somewhat of a break. Hopefully she and her site will return soon.
