This is the discussion thread for the forth coming "FAQ for Animators". Any comments, thoughts, ideas, improvements, etc are welcome.

This is test case for Forum Sticky FAQ's.

First suggestion would be to alert potential animators to what software is available (I know, this is an obvious one).

I have to admit, my interest in animations is more of someone who tinkers. If someone would like to start a thread listing all the applications, that would be perfect to link into the FAQ.

The structure I'm thinking of, is to have the FAQ thread just have links posted by users to other threads, with descriptions (like in [post=517272]this post[/post]). Basicly just an index to the information.

Pietro's FAQ is great. I hope it is sticked. But there are just 6 subjects. What about splitting them up and making 6 titled sticking threads? Of course they shoud be locked. hmm 6 are too many for sticking? But everybody can find easily what he wants.

Strife asked me about making this FAQ a sticky, and I think its a great idea... suggested it some time ago. :p

My original motivation for this is summed up in my original posting about it...

"I've been following the Animations discussion forum for about nine months, and I've noticed that many questions are repeated. Although we know we should search the discussion archives before posting a question, this doesn't happen as often as it should. With almost 400 threads, 2500 postings, and a minimal searching tool, it may not be realistic to expect a new animator to find the answer to his or her question in the archives."

I'd also like to see the FAQ truly limited to "Frequently Asked Questions". I've seen too many FAQs sprawl into a long list of questions, which decreases the likelihood people will look through the list to find their question and answer. The Wiki would probably be a better location for a comprehensive list of questions and topics.

If people would like to suggest additional questions and links to good answers, I think we should add these questions. But, let's please limit these questions to things that really are asked a lot in the Animations Forum. For example, someone suggested a link to the wiki if a person couldn't find their question in the FAQ, maybe as the last question: "I've looked through the whole Animation FAQ and still can't find an answer. What do I do now?"

A useful and well-used Animation FAQ will reduce the mundane/routine postings, and it will allow us to focus on more interesting/challenging questions and problems.

I got a question for the FAQ (I know it's got an old date, but hay...)

How long can animation be to upload to SL? Is there a limit to length? If there is then that would also reflect back on fps. Considering that the less time you have the small fps you'll want (or do I have that backwards?).

Thanks, and great FAQ btw.

It's up to 30 seconds no matter what fps you set.

Strife, please link Animation Guide at first.

Hey there,

The first Question links to a thread with a bad link. Can we get a new location for the noob faq on animating?

rob

1. OK, I'm a newbie. How do I create an animation?
