yes -- you have to use the SL model, not the Poser models.
...

Ahh, there could be my problem. I was just using DAZ's "victoria" model thinking thats all there was. When I uploaded, the animation wouldnt move the AV the same way it was being moved in DAZ.

Just found it I think Second Life Mannequin <--- this the right one?

Anyway on the subject of poses. 0 - 2 Frame poses will generate a "animatoin failed to initialize" or something error when uploaded. I need to make it 3 or more frames for it to work in my experiance.

edit: hmmmm....cant seem to get the url tags to work......

Good to hear that. But avimator's doing pretty well too.

Ok, how do you get this program, I Googled it and all the links to the avimator site are broken.

Merged two threads both about Daz Studio now supporting BVH. :)

Avimator should be @ http://www.avimator.com/

Vince Plunkett is the man, if you'd like to contact him.

Cheerz!

Thanks Torley (bonehead self)

Frustrated that I have had so much trouble getting BVH into SL.

I am sorry I jumped the gun in telling everyone about daz until the bugs were fixed. I tried the model and got it to wiggle, so I figured it was something I didn't know about BVH.

Daz is a great cheap art-making product that just added the BVH support. I encourage those of you who have downloaded it to contact Daz and let them know its buggy.

One bit of advice I have for everyone though. Go download Michael 3 and Victoria 3. They are the base models and are free. Any art you make with Daz is yours. I have already made $L in the game with my Daz art. Also check out the "free products" section. Many are just enhancments of other daz products but they have a lot of models to play with. (oh, and if you are the money spending type  the platinum club pays for itself quickly)

Grins... You added quotes and spaces. Its more uptight than that.

I think a short list of software that supports SecondLife's BVH format should be stickied in this section. Shouldn't need to do some forum diving to find options other than Poser. Also, providing links to some simple tutorials in mentioned sticky should help. Unlike the scripting wiki, I havn't stumbled upon a useful single resource for animation making for SL.

okay, I seem to be completely missing something here...

I downloaded and installed DAZ Studio and extracted the SL Avatar Folder into the DAZ Studio People folder. The SL Avatar folder appears in DAZ Studio but appears to be empty so I can't actually put the SL Avatar into the scene. I checked in windows explorer and it seems to have all the files there.....so why isn't the SL Avatar showing up in DAZ Studio?

try putting the [sl avatar] folder into
C:\Program Files\DAZ\Studio\content\Runtime\libraries\character

SL Avatar should then appear in your Figures section of daz3d

I got free verision of bryce 5 but I couldn't really understand it and there is all these items they want me to buy in spite of that I am struggling just with basics of the program.
Anyone know if bryce 5 can be used for anything related to second life and where I can find some good tutorials?
I have guide on pdf from site but I often get really confused by it.
I am not really sure how to do anything yet on it either or even how to get the images to work or add new images at this point.
They do have forum but I haven't found it very helpful

Looks like nothing much has happened since April on this...

I added a note/repro to that bug, feel free to clamor for action on it!

For all people interested in DAZ...

I've coded a plugin that sorts out all of DAZ|Studio's export problems. It simply replaces the broken BVH exporter that ships with DAZ.

It solves both the naming (joint capitalization) and, more important the floating point value (rotation inaccuracies) problems.

I'm just doing final testing now, and will release in this forum later today.

For the technically minded - the issue is the axis rotation order in the quaternion export from the DAZ figure (skeleton). The included plugin from DAZ uses the wrong order! (You can see the effect of this error by exporting and importing a BVH just in DAZ, let alone uploading to SL).

Added mine too. They keep trying to squirm out of this bug but got into the phone with Lisa and gave her an earful about the (at least) thousand people *I* personally have referred from SL (affiliate tracking info)

You may wish to try a fix that I posted in another thread. It's a replacement exporter for the broken built-in exporter in DAZ... the install looks more involved than it actually is...

/52/41/148094/1.html

No need to wait for DAZ to fix this any more.

hth,

I just do not have any success with DAZ Studio - it looks really promising but, for me, does not deliver. I can get the animation working well in DAZ Studio but when I import it into SL limb movements are either missing or reduced.

I use the SL female manikin and the BVH plugin.

I like DAZ Studio as a product but it is too much of a hassle to get anything useful out of it.

I was using DAZ|Studio long before I was in SL thats why I wanted to create my own animations with D|S. But I hadent had any success neiter. When I export the animation done with the Poser4 figure and try to upload it, I just get a "Failure to initiate animation" error. Someone suggested to me, to load them into Qavimator and save them again, but when I load BVH made with D|S, Qavimator just crashes. I tried a lot of BVH, different frames, settings and so on but all I get with Qavimator is just a crash when loading them and with SL just this error i mentioned before.

Was anyone able to manage to do animations with D|S already?

Aaron, the reason for that is that the hips must move fractionally from the first to second frame. The exporter I wrote automatically inserts a keyframe at the start to make sure your entire animation "takes". With exisitng DAZ files, try exporting them using my exporter. Failing that you are into a hand-edit...

Uhm, thank you I will try that. However I read Ulrika's tutorial where she mentioned, that the first keyframe has to be left out and so I did. I will look what your exporter does anyhow, maybe I made an mistake too.
Thanks again

DAZ studio has a behavior (bug that I reported) in its bvh export that renames certain joints to start with an upper case letter. I have reported it to them, and they have assigned the bug to someone. However, in the short term you can open the BVH file in notepad or other text editor and go and fix the 5 tags

hip
abdomen
neck
chest
head

It will work much better then :)

Actually the exporter I wrote does deal with this automatically. It entirely replaces the included BVH exporter which causes a number of issues for uploads to SL, including this capitalization issue. So no need to post edit if you use the one that I wrote :)

Escort, I just D/L and installed your plugin. I haven't messed with it yet though. I have been using QAvimator more lately, but was hoping to get back to using daz.
