I've noticed that the attachments appear visible when I first log in but slowly fade away when everything is finished rezzing. I do not recall, though, seeing attachments if I zoom out. I will have to experiment a little.

![]() Can we has link to JIRA issue? This one was marked resolved as "fixed" yesterday: Here is an issue created today, it talks particularly about attachments: _____________________

I've noticed this as well right after I updated my Windlight to the newest version. Hopefully this is a bug they can fix quick, it's a little weird zooming out and seeing someone with a chim for a head. If it isn't resolved in a couple days my only advice is to return to regular view sl and wait for the problem to be fixed in Windlight. If anyone knows how to fix the problem let me know cause I don't have a clue about how to use the jira thingies either. Would also be nice if I didn't have to use up my harddrive space on external addons for SL to fix such issues with Windlight.

I do not understand how this was a mandatory update when the last version was working so well and now... I hope they change this or rollback

Someone pointed out that this is a "feature" added on purpose!
Yes, it's intentional that alpha (32-bit, see-through) textures become opaque (solid) at a distance — this was done as a speed booster, since layered alpha textures decrease performance. At the same time, I know how ugly it looks in some situations, and how it impairs other things — for example, if want to take a picture of an apartment building and the contents of its floors, but when I zoom out, the glass windows (alpha textures) go opaque, blocking my view. I wonder if it'd be a good idea to map this to Objects Mesh Detail... or provide an option in Debug Settings. Srsly? I've noticed this too - I was at Tiki Lounge yesterday and some people looked like they were dancing with various woks, pots and pans attached to them. Same today at another place. The attachments did disappear sometimes but always came back again.
My RL was hooked up to a super new comp where SL works brilliantly, so it wasn't a comp problem as this didn't happen with the last WindLight version. Luckily I don't wear any big invisibles so I was saved embarrassment! Also latest update doesn't perform as well as the last one which was really good. |

I used the previous windlight as my standard viewer: more stable, better frame rate, nice sky.
because of the new one crashing every 5 min, I use now the last RC... no more nice sky, lower framerates, not as stable as previous windlight ![]() _____________________

Someone pointed out that this is a "feature" added on purpose! i just lost all trust into LL. they seem way more stupid than i could ever imagine ![]() try going to one of the motosl racetracks and race there. that on/off switching of the alphas cost more performance than just rendering them like the creator created them. and it looks worse than a gameboy game. and the best thing is: now that they implemented it, they wont remove it. way to go LL. you had the best viewer since i am in sl (1 year) and you ruined it completely. not by mistake, on purpose! this is the first time i am really pissed! sorry for the rant ahhhhhhhhhhh |

Don't feel that way
![]() Besides, it was given an internal issue ID (DEV-9327) I don't know for sure if that means they want to fix it. No devs have commented or assigned it. But it's like, in their candy jar now. Or fridge, I dunno ![]() Votevotevotevotevotevotevotevotevotevotevotevotevote ![]() _____________________

Alpha woes
01-26-2008 21:06
Was the alpha channel bug really intentional? If so, that was a horrible decision. It renders WL nearly unusable. Far from being a desired feature for a slight performance increase, it should be labeled a show stopper bug. Back to the crappy regular viewer for me.

Stupidest Idea Ever!
Seriously, if they are alpha it's because they were supposed to be that way! I can't believe Torley thought making full-alpha objects show, ever, was a great idea. I think I've lost respect for him ![]() I guess we object creators are just stupid for wanting to actually use alpha layers, thanks for setting us straight Torley ![]() |

Partial alpha textures aside, why is the viewer even bothering to render fully transparent prims/linksets in the first place?
![]() Rendering alpha/transparent is slow, but something that is invisible (all sides of the prim 100% transparent/alpha) should just be treated like it doesn't exists as far as the renderer is concerned. Not as something that's merely 100% see-through. |

Yes I'm suffering the same problems with the invisible stuff showing through. Maybe it's a combination of this version and certail video drivers. My SL partner is using Windlight and doesn't have this problem, so it's not universal.
Hope they fix it soon. BTW I'm using an nVidia 8800GS with the latest drivers and Vista OS. |

I only see them if i have the shaders off. With shaders on they become invisible again. But even so, this has to be the worse viewer ever, I'm crashing a lot.
I have Nvidia 8600 and Vista |

Partial alpha textures aside, why is the viewer even bothering to render fully transparent prims/linksets in the first place? ![]() There's a separate JIRA issue for this case if you're interested: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-173 But yeah, this alpha culling thing is annoying, and it'd either need better handling of 100% invisible prims as mentioned, or become and option or something. As it is it's stupid. _____________________
