I also cant stop the game from crashing every time I log in. once in a while It will let me stay online for a few minutes before it crashes. It seems to be some kind of graphical error because It seems to crash when another avatar is on screen. This is driving me up the wall because its the first time in months that Ive actually logged on, and the current version is just totally broken.

Im running an AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core 4800 and my videocard is an ATI FireGL V7100. On top of that, when it does actually run, My avatars body will stay frozen in place when I move, and only the attachments move. wierd.

i fell in love with (became addicted to ) windlight 2 updates ago. The crap is totally unusable since 1.7, 1.8. Just crashes after 5 or 10 minutes. Too crazy to even begin to deal with. Was just beginning to start using it with photography...just a complete waste!

Used the viewer for less then 20 mins. Which seems to be the same old viewer and its issues. Oh well sooner or later they get it right. When? will who knows.

using on two different computers, 1 OSX and 1 Windows, I haven't seen any crashing issues since they fixed the .125 tab switch crash.

Need to have a thread to narrow down more the similarities in the people crashing a lot.

Again in all depends on where one is located on Sl and the amount of time they spend there ( along with the high amount of objects and scripts running does cause affects) .In a addition, If one is not in high population for long periods of time or just keeps setting low. Then well you can`t comapre stats. Subjective reports and thoughts can be different from user to user. I hve not used this client as the main client for a long period Now. due to the unstable conditions. The Normal client. I hae No problems at all, but first look.......

SL Viewer Crashing/ Freezing/ Not Working.
07-28-2007 13:08
I am new to this Second Life scene. I am seeing alot of discussion about why the viewer/client is crashing. Hardware incompatability, drivers not upgraded, fragmented files, the wind was out of the west, or the fact that I tried to install this on Friday.

My system has 2 gigs of memory, 190+ megs of reported Video memory, a Celeron M 1.8 Mhz motherboard, 28 Gigs of avalable space on my drive, and I just recently reformated the drive and a fresh install of Windows XP. The system was just redone with in the last two weeks.

I installed the newest version of the viewer/client. Each time I log in, I am able to be online for no more than 10 minutes, before it freezes/ crashes/ stops functioning.

According to what I have seen others say about fixes, they don't seem to be working. I have the most updated OpenGL, the most updated drivers, lots of memory (2 GIgs), plenty of hard drive space for caching. A fresh install of Windows Xp, and the most updated Viewer/client.

I have been able to run World of Warcraft, Doom, and other Graphic intensive games.

Yet, this viewer is only able to function for 10 minutes at a time.

Then it takes 2-4 minutes while I wait to see if it actually unfreezes, and then the 1-3 minutes for re-booting the system and then the manditory drive check to look for any files that might have been damaged due to the freezing and rebooting sequence.

Why can't this company, that offers paid memberships get this right. This to me seems like the right thing to do, if you want to stay in buisness.

Is there a third party viewer, or something??

Or any other suggestions as to what else I might do to get this FAULTY software to function.

Thanks,
Richard

Hi Rich welcome to Second Life. Well as you can see from your experience of what others are saying about "fixing" with the usual "DO THIS" cookie cutter fix all things to do. THEY JUST DON`T WORK at times. I myself can`t keep with this viewer can`t stable enough in high population island/sims worth my time. Problem is the debuggers of the client really can`t fix problems for working. wWthout breaking another part on the viewer inturn. Memory leaks of the viewer ( First Look ) and others is common and still has not been fixed. ( oh they tried ) but they just can`t get this fixed right.

I sent in countless Bug reporters But do they even look at them? Even TRY to deal with WHY the viewer is crashing? NO! Instead they just keep on making the commicator box more pretty and TRYING to get voice to work in a some what useable fashion. Now I been crashing now for 4 weeks I believe. But for fixes??????????All I see in the new client release is "VOICE" "pretty looking fixes" etc......Nice PR to get people to come in to the game. But BAD PR because NOT everyone can use the viewer ( Bla Bla Linden ( hidden her name ) try to learn from people mistakes instead of protecting the badly coded First Look Client ) . Saying its "STILL in BETA STAGE doesnt not going to explain why the viewer crashes for the end user"

I just want LLABS to start doing what they suppose to do. MAKE THE GAME useable!

I was advised by a good friend " one that does know what he is doing " to add more DDR2........I have I am now running 4 giga of DDR2. Lets see if that fixes the problem. ( who knows)

What you might want to try to do is a 3rd party Viewer instead of LLABS viewer. There are about as i know of 3 or 5 of them running around. Try it

LLABS is more worried about putting on features instead of TRYING to keep a head of current bug issues.

Possible fix for me, so far.....
07-28-2007 21:09
I went and found a third party add-on, and after adding it to the viewer/client, I haven't crashed yet. I played with it for about an hour, and it was stable so far.

Here is the site, if you wish to try it.

http://ablewhitman.org/viewer/

Again, I have only tried it for about an hour, and it hasn't crashed. Who knows what will happen come tomorrow.

I use the Nicholaz version:
http://nicholaz-beresford.blogspot.com/
He's the guy who fixed most of the memory leaks, I've have very very few problems and most of them (all?) were in the official client too.
Well, except one, but then, I needed the /current/ official client to run the Nicholaz version ;)

Have you tried one of the add-ons?? Has it helped??

You mentioned "The other Normal Client". Which one is that? All that I have ever tried was the Second life one.

I should say the the standard client that LLAbs releases. I have tried one other 3rd party client but it just had the same problems. What I need to start doing is trying other add ons . Thank you I will do that as soon as LLABs fits the current problems that is brewaking thegame now.

Thank you :)
