Is the new update better or worse?

I logged in and got a popup suggesting I try the new optional 1.18.1.2. version.

I declined as I wanted to hear first if this seemed better or worse for others?

Apparently it's voice. I'm on the first look viewer anyway but I guess as voice has come to the masses.

It contains the voice options and the controversial communicate window. Needs some getting used to, but it seems to work fine so far. I didn't notice any bugs other than the client showing all land as voice-enabled even if it isn't.

Usually I wait until I'm forced to update, but with the recent inventory loss problems I wouldn't risk to continue using the old client.

Hate it anyway to undo????

I'm still on first look viewer. Odds on people will moan about the communicate window.

Has it helped with the inventory loss or "object failed to rez" issues?

Just tested it with a no copy item created by an alt. I rezzed it several times in different regions without a failure. Doesn't have to mean anything though, Murphy's Law only applies to valuable objects.

Two minor issues with the new client:

1. The profile button is missing in group IM windows, so it's no longer possible to quickly access the profile of spammers who caused the window to pop up. Button was replaced by "Group Info" and "Join Call".

2. Scripted objects with touch_start event are now permanently red in edit mode. Used to be only highlighted in red while the Alt button was held. A bit bothersome for someone who wants to try out different textures... edit window needs to be closed to see the real color.

I haven't tried this myself yet, but someone in this thread says you can turn that off in View-->Beacons.

Was so used to having my chat window with the IM window above. I hate the new communication interface. Why, oh why do they insist on adding lame features that throw us off while ignoring bugs that persist. Still can't send an IM to a group or a selection of friends. Still can't really see friends who are online reliably. Fix the darn bugs, then work on additions. oof!!!!

you can rip off the history window and have it down at the bottom the way it used to be
then your groups and friends will be in the chat window combined for ease of use

Ok, this is REALLY annoying me, and I can't find a way around it. If someone gets paid by me while I'm typing a message, the focus leaves the chat prompt and goes to the notification (I imagine it's also true when you give/receive inventory, receive payment, etc). I have to either close the notification or click back into the chat box to resume typing. We have a scripted object at our club that gives away free lindens to patrons, and so there are times where I'm getting outgoing payment notifications every 1-3 seconds for several minutes at a time. Accordingly, it is impossible for me to chat whilst this is going on. I'm so frustrated that I want to scream.

I kinda in a panic WHERE IS MY FRIENDS LIST DID YOU SAY?????

I am not moaning about the new communication window. If some people like something that was once simple turned into a nightmare of searching for little X's to click then they will love the upgrade.

They will learn fast enough. It isn't THAT difficult.

They are adding this stuff because they haven't heard that the telephone was invented like 150 years ago.

is there a full download version? my updater doesn't work anymore for some reason... need to completely reinstall everytime.

Chimaera - annoying yes. Does it help if you turn off payment notifications? Edit --> Preferences --> In the general tab, uncheck the box beside "Notify when Linden dollars spent or received".

Ok my opinion otherwise? Meh... I have no use for voice and I will never ever use it. The voice icon in the bottom right corner irritates the hooey out of me as that's where my IM box used to go. And the new friends/im/chat/voice all being in the one window - total suckage. ESPECIALLY the friends list. I hate scrolling to find a friend, and I"m not about to make my communications window so big that I don't have to scroll anymore because that's just insane. I don't NEED that big of a window for chatting, just for my friends list which I only ever opened if I needed to IM or pay someone.

On top of which my game has been freezing all night. Just freezes, can't do anything, for sometimes as long as a minute or more.

And finally, I hate it for the simple fact that they released it NOW. We're losing thousands of dollars worth of inventory, search is totally hosed, teleporting is spotty. Under these circumstances, who really gives a rats behind about voice?

I could learn rocket science too if I wanted but I am not about to stick with a system that becomes more unuser friendly with each upgrade. I thought the alt key/function key shortcut was bad but todays upgrade gets the prize in my book.

I have started crashing out of SL since this weekend and now after the update I just crashed several times in one day. I have problems rezzing items. I can't delete things that I have rezzed. When I teleport it either takes several minutes to go through or it hangs up SL and I have to restart. So I'd say it's worse for me.

I just downloaded it and now I can't even log onto to SL I'm getting an error message: "DNS could not resolve the host name". Aarrgh!

The homophobic SL men who can't get anything in RL and who come here expecting my late 30s RL body and voice to be that of the 18 year old bombshell they seem to assume I am ever since they fell in lust with my avatar. I wish these men would just grow up and get a life. If they want a RL relationship get out there in the real world and find a RL person. I came to SL to escape all the crap in my RL.

This has been a bad week for SL. Crashes, lost inventory, inability to TP, inability to search, to do commerce and now this stupid communication window that takes up 1/4 of my screen. All for what? So the homophobes can harass people who do not have their voice feature enabled?

come on i can only buy so big of a monitor- the communication boxes are huge! and you can't access groups or friends quickly... so if you have to take them apart they still get in the way ... hard to move around and hard to navigate and cover half my huds ... Lame!!!
