From: Lorna Minnelli but again.. you need to take a step back ... perhaps continue those friendships outside of SL via email or some type of messenger... Why? I mean, with all due respect, some of us prefer to separate our SL relationships from our RL relationships. Both are "real", it's just that each takes place in a quite different context. I'm very reluctant to transplant my SL relationships into RL by means of email or messengers generally -- it's just not the content in which I wish to carry out those relationships. There's no *need* to do so, if you are willing to accept that the SL relationships take place in SL and subject to the limitations of the medium.

From: Wilhelm Neumann The truth is that Dan Linden in a recent interview has stated that they never intended for it to become an "economic platform" and that this is a side effect. He further stated that they get corporations angry at them when they can't market their stuff and fail and they get told repeatedly that second lief was never meant to be what they are trying to make it into. Bottom line second life is what you make it. If you want it to only be cash cow and I use that term with some reservation then you can make it that. If you want it to be a form of recreation which believe it or not the bulk of users do use it for. (content creators are in the minority I recently found out and end users consumers are the majority and heer to have fun or possibly have a meeting or three).
Second life was meant to be a place to create and have fun. It was originally created just for that the money thing was a side effect of a change because originally people did not have IP rights nor was there a dollar value assigned to the linden that happened as a way to get people interested. If you go look at the original versions of second life no it was not meant to be what people are turning it into. You would also make NO money since your the pure commercial type if in fact everyone was here for one purpose only and to make SL "a job" because there would be no market and no purpose. I point you to active worlds which is more of a purely commercial application. Compare the two and the difference is that this one is where people can come to play. Hence the words "your world your imagination" Yeah, and Danny also wrote th infamous Broadly Offensive Post........

From: Wilhelm Neumann Its a thingy! Do Penguins have thingies? I agree in that, My SL friendships are not meant to leave SL either. If SL were to cease tomorrow, unfortunately, that would be the end of them. I don't say everyone should do this, but it's the way I have to play SL. I do use this forum for communication, as I consider it just an extension of the game.

I agree in that, My SL friendships are not meant to leave SL either. If SL were to cease tomorrow, unfortunately, that would be the end of them. I don't say everyone should do this, but it's the way I have to play SL. I do use this forum for communication, as I consider it just an extension of the game. yes I think they have thingies .. also yeah most online friendships end when you leave the game or the game ends. I have only made one friend where it stuck and even then as years go by we grow farther apart due to the fact I'm in Canada and she is in Denmark and well we have other things to do. Some groups though do stick together from game to game. This I have had happen to me on one occassion. We were all borred with the game we were playing and due to people selling the stuff online and bots the game was getting to be pretty unplayable. So when new games were released we started looking at them and came to a consensus to all join another game and we picked a server together etc. We stayed together for a good while I think I was the one that broke the group or so I am told lol which bothers me to no end. I was not the guild leader or anything but somehow I became glue not even realizing it. I left because of work and could not return so ended up closing my account. I later got told that apparently being "glue" the group split up later and many people were upset I was gone. I didn't even realize it lol (made me feel kinda shitty but it could not be helped )

From: Brenda Connolly Yeah, and Danny also wrote th infamous Broadly Offensive Post........ oh yeas and I remember him saying why he chose that term. IN truth LL doesn't actualy want to define things and they are doing it on purpose which is pretty funny

From: Kenn Nilsson 1--Even I'm sick of this argument.
funny because over in the tech support forums you told someone From: Kenn Nilsson What game are you playing? I didn't know Linden Labs made games... which 1 negates your #1 since you basically started this argument in that thread oh the irony

From: Victorria Paine Why?

There's no *need* to do so, if you are willing to accept that the SL relationships take place in SL and subject to the limitations of the medium. I agree with you.. but some people do not choose to keep SL and RL separate and once they partner or marry someone in SL are fearful that it will end in SL because of boredom or RL commitments and that "bond" that you have created in SL will leave a void for some people.. especially those that have made acquaintances in different parts of the world.. I have read many profiles in SL where the two people who met in SL actually met in RL and decided to get married or have a relationship in the real world too.. But I do agree with you.. some of us DO prefer to keep SL and RL completely separate.. Thank you for your comment..it has a lot of merit.
