This weekend, a person, who shall remain nameless unless he wants the publicity, gave me $1500L out of the blue, no strings attached. All he asked was that I in some way do something nice for someone else. I was skeptical at first, but it was legitimate. To him, or her, I say thank you. It was a nice thing to see, and it was apprecitated, even though I would not be considered needy in SL. Your generosity will reach others through me, rest assured.

In English, it is proper to use the masculine pronoun when the gender is unknown. I thought the non descriptive "They" was more appropriate. "He" is gender indictive. As in..."They gave me such and such" and " They asked me to do this and that" and "I'd like to let them know yadda yadda". Of course...that may very well be improper english. If so...my apologies. _____________________

Based upon the name, I'm pretty sure it's a he..but in SL you never know.

More thanks from me

Thank you to the lovely lady who set out to denoobify newbies and started me off with a pile of freebie clothes and the money (and instructions) to buy a pack of hair! That was a kind and thoughtful gesture and really helped me get started.
And a thank you to the person who I met in Starax's shop who, for no reason I can tell beyond kindness and an appreciation of beautiful things, footed me the cash for the angel avatar on the condition that A: I spent it on the avatar! and B) I carried over the kindness to someone else! I wonder if the second person was the same one you met, Brenda? ![]() |

It's hard being nice nowadays. Previously the odd random kind act ended with the recipient, a few weeks ago I was chatting to a noob who was very likable, they were skint, not a L$ to their name, so i gave them a free prefab worth a couple of L$K. No biggie, good deed for the day and all that. It would then seem this noob told everyone they met for the next 48 hours as I was inundated with IM's from people wanting free builds, clothes (which i dont even sell) and some just cut to the chase and asked for the L$ directly. At first it was amusing, then I just got annoying and started telling them to "f*** off". So I went from commiting a genourous act to beoming verbally abusive to any noob that IM'd me, all within a 2 day period. Nowadays I am happy to devote time and experience to new players but will no longer offer free products or L$ to the greedy little buggers.

It happened to me too in my noob days (not so long ago)... A friend of mine offered me L$1500 to buy... I don't remember what but it was so nice of him ! But I just couldn't accept, the money is there to be earned not received, so I returned him the whole (even though I had something like L$200 in my account at that time, "earned" through *cough* camping *cough*). We're still friends and now that I have some money I do that quite a lot myself. Thanks M !
Even earlier another friend of mine offered me L$750 to buy an outfit. I had exactly L$0, as it was my first day on SL... we're still friends too thanks J ! Keep up the kindness acts people, that's what makes SL a nice place to live in ![]() |

When I was a noob, a guy approached me at a high end clothing store and we visited, although I was somewhat guarded. He bought me a LBD [little black dress] and a gorgeous evening gown, both of which are two of my favorite outfits. He didnt want anything in return either. I now actually work as a greeter. sales girl at that store. When I make anew friend who is a noob, I take him or her to that store and buy them an outfit. I think I get as much pleasure from this as they do!

A legacy to the non so distant extremely male-dominated past. ![]() That used to be the case, but you will find that many works written recently (I'm guessing over the last 10-20 years) will use "he" and "she" interchangably. It's an effort to overcome that "male-dominated past." ![]() What I recommend my students do (I teach freshman comp) is switch between the two. For example, in one paragraph, all singular pronouns can be "she" and in the next, "he." Let's hear more about those altruistic avies out there ![]() EDIT: Grrr . . . I post my reply, and you've edited your post to address this. Well, I guess that's settled, then ![]() |

Kindness rocks.
In Decemeber I had a SL friend me give me Adobe Creative Suite and Photoshop, still learning it though. Another loaned me 44k, still working repaying them. I was quite flattered by the gifts and there trust to do such a thing. I didn't expect anything either way from them it just nice to have someone do kind things for you. Another bought me a 512m2 lot by road and donated it to my private group and doesn't expect any type of repayment. Thank you friends. |

Well...I'm glad my lack of knowledge concerning proper grammar and use of pronouns has managed to derail a good many posts in this topic, thus distracting everyone from the good natured and unselfish act mentioned in the first post.

A legacy to the non so distant extremely male-dominated past. ![]() In ancient times, most deities were female - especially the more powerful ones. The "male dominated past" is relatively recent, and can be traced almost directly to power sturggles that occurred in ancient Rome shortly after the death of Christ. It is largely the Christian Church which deposed the female deities and installed their own male one. |

In medieval times, all children, regardless of gender, were referred to as girls. In ancient times, most deities were female - especially the more powerful ones. The "male dominated past" is relatively recent, and can be traced almost directly to power sturggles that occurred in ancient Rome shortly after the death of Christ. It is largely the Christian Church which deposed the female deities and installed their own male one. Completely disagree with most of this post. The vast majority of cultures in recorded history have been male dominated including those predating the rise of the Catholic church. It true that children were universily dressed as girls in much of europe during the middle ages. Im not certain on the being referred to as girls though, It doesnt jar any memory. |
