...perhaps I just have too many things, more than 50,000 items.

/me blinks. Born May 2008 and you have +50k items in your inventory?

Packrat!

Who's your ISP? When's the last time you cleared your cache?

/me wonders if this is caused by you going over some bandwidth limit with your ISP. Any time you clear the cache, SL is going to reload your whole inventory. Try turning your bandwidth setting (ctrl-p at the login screen, network tab) way down - does that help?

edit: unless he's tripping over some nasty SL bug, there's no way a scripted object can cause this. I doubt it's an attachment.

To see if it's an attachment, rather than try to judge which attachments might or might not be a problem, do a detach all.

Might as well do Advanced Character Character Tests, Male or Female as desired.

Disable voice.

Manually delete the cache folder.

Triple check that your computer's date and time are set correctly, right year, month, time, am or pm, time zone.

There's a file called settings.xml, you could delete that.

Sometimes there's a file called settings_per_user.xml, you could delete that.

Turn the entire system, computer, modem, router, etc. off for a while.

Log in to places you don't normally log in to.

If you tried with an alt and it worked, don't assume it will work for the alt all the time. Keep testing the alt account. Log the alt in at all the places you've had trouble with.

If you can log in from a friend's house try that.

UPDATE 1/21/10

Well, easy come easy go...just as mysteriously as this problem occurred, it has now disppeared. For no apparent reason I can log in perfectly all right now.

I didnt do anything at all except whine a hundred times to SL, these Forums, and the bug report thingy, Id like to think someone at LL took an interest in me and fixed the problem, but I dunno that they did.

In any case the problem healed itself, and I hope it never happens again....

I fully expect that your problem healed itself via the rolling restart that LL carried out grid-wide yesterday. I am sorry that no one really was able to help you, and you had to wait for "SL nature" to run its course. I even roped in other people to help me locate your ghost, and in the process found 11 other ghosted avatars, all now gone after the rolling restart.
