You could go to San Francisco and pick up a copy on a disk.

....

I'm pretty sure it's a mandatory upgrade. The version number change makes me think that.

Lucy Linden just said she doesn't know and that it would be posted on the blog.

Ain't much time left for it to be posted before it happens.

I'm no longer quite so sure.

@Winter, trite, and Edie: I’ve asked Josh to confirm, but it’s my understanding that this viewer release will be optional. If you prefer to continue to use the latest 1.13 version, you will be able to.
I'd suggest grabbing a copy of the current viewer so you can uninstall and go back if it turns out to have more problems :).

I hope Robin's right - that would be ideal, strong encouragement for everyone to use it, but still have the old one to fall back on if needed. They'll have more pressure on them to fix the bugs and more bug reports to help find them.

Heh, didn't see Kitty's post above. Hard to move fast enough.

I posted first, then a little voice said to check the blog and make sure :p.

It seemed odd that Robin's post wasn't in the usual yellow for Lindens though .

*GRINS*

Well good luck everybody.. *crosses fingers* I am still looking for that extra gig of RAM that I was sure I put away somewhere in the basement.. I wouldn't dare hoping the new client will use less memory :)

Agree that would be an ideal arrangement.

Keeping the current main viewer as an alternate that is no longer supported (ie, no more bug fixes) should be technically feasible for the short term. Eventually, with increasing changes to the server code, the veiwer would probably become too dysfunctional for use, but it would certainly ease the transition.

It would be the first time in LL's history if they allowed us to continue using an old viewer even one second after they release a new one. As soon as the new one is official, I'll bet the old one will be impossible to log in with.

No official relase notice yet, and it's not available for download except as the last "First Look" viewer, which supposedly is identical in all but version number...

Why all the worry? What makes you think the new viewer won't work?

I have seen at least on two occasions when I log in that it is compulsory to download the new viewer. Is this not going to negate anyone's attempt to run an old one?

I find this post to be defamatory and offensive to phone weasels.

Weasel out of that if you can.

Yes... and as long there is no smoke all is relative safe.

*snickers* Oh, it works, just as well as the grid works! :D

I hope it's optional. I'd rather just use the First Look for now and keep my main viewer separate, because if I have to muck with my vendors, I want to do it quickly - sans workaround.

My understanding is that they are working -away- from mandatory upgrades, with this new "capabilities" concept, but I don't know if they're quite there yet.
