Whatever happened to Land for Rent?

So lately I've been hunting for more land to rent and am having difficulties finding any. Why? Because apparently people have problems....reading. Land For Rent is filled with Land Sales. Is there an easier way to search for land rentals?

Search>land sales>select For Sale-Estate and do a search. These are all rental properties although some require you "buy" the land as a deposit.

Also try IMing Skye Whitcroft or Beetle Bailey in-world. They rent mainland properties.

Not really a good way to do it in-world, for the reasons you mentioned.

Here, there are two forums, where a lot of people advertise their rentals:

Elanthius Flagstaff recently posted he has ~80 mainland parcels for rent, and his go for L$210 per 512 sqm (117 prims) per week. No covenant, so complete freedom, but you might end up with... "bad neighbors."

I have six 2,048 sq m parcels remaining in the mainland sim of Peronaut. The entire sim is covenanted to be mixed residential / commercial, but to disallow clubs, casinos, camp farms, 16 sqm ad plots, and other crap. All six of these parcels are adjacent to landscaped parks or mini-parks.

These parcels are ~L$950 / week, for 2,048 sqm, and 468 prims.

Hi Tybalt. All of my land for sale is also available for mainland rentals (obviously the sale is canceled if you decide to rent). You can find everything we have available in our inventory by going to search >> places >> Type in Ninjaland (one word) and tick include mature.

Each piece of land will have the rental quote in the description line (second line) of "about land".

We will consider subdividing larger plots of land.

I'd like one, I have land for rent but I'd also like to know what competitive prices are and as you point out, land for rent is full of land sales.

I too, am renting land on the mainland, in the gyala region. of course its managed, and im keeping ownership of the common areas, so it wont be overun with clubs and casinos.....Its not for sale, so no worries there.

Also no offense you use landbots so I can't rent from you. It's a principles thing.

He may use them, but he gives back mistakes and has good principles himself. I don't penalize him personally because he is fairly playing within the system and was cunning enough to script his own bots.

Hi Ciaran. I think you may be seeing land for rent OR sale. We do not require notice for our renters to leave because we toss the land back up for sale. Then if it sells, we are no longer paying tier for it. If we find someone who wants to rent the land, we cancel the sale.

Others may follow this rental model for mainland. It alleviates the risk of buying a private SIM and not being able to find renters for it. Private SIM owners still pay full tier charges even if they cannot rent their land. It's the biggest advantage to mainland rentals.

Hopefully this explains why you are seeing rental land for sale.

Searching on land for rent does INDEED pop up lands that LOOK like they may be for sale. This is because in order for you to be able to perform certain functions on your land that you've rented (like rez objects, etc) you need to be listed as the parcel "owner" to the SL computers. For you to be listed as "owner" (even tho you're really renting) you need to "buy" the parcel, usually for a small fee, or for the first month's rent or whatever. The estate owner still owns the parcel, but to the SL computers, you are listed as the owner, so you can set access list, streaming music URL's, etc etc.

So those parcels that show up as "for sale" in the search/rentals plot may actually just be referring to the "security deposit" or whatever you want to call it that you need to pay up front.

Just a thought.

Since, technically, all estate land sales are rentals, it is no wonder that land rentals is full of land "for sale."

While we will rent to non-ninjas, we do look favorably on those who apprentice to the ninja ways.

By the look of Elanthius' svelte, girlish figure, the ninja way requires strict discipline when it comes to diet and exercise.

Thanks Skye. I just worry about renting my land on many levels. Someone rented my land yesterday and I popped over to say hi and he said "Who are you? A Neighbour?" so I explained that I was the person he was renting off and to contact me if there were any problems ... he seemed surprised that I'd turned up at all.
