Jesse Malthus' Memorial IS BEING VANDALISED RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME

hmm, i know of a beautiful memorial that's been in SL longer than I have. i'm reluctant to draw attention to it here, but people leave teddy bears, flowers, all sorts of tributes there all the time (particular on key dates) and i've not once heard of it being vandalised.

i do take your point though. maybe it would be a good idea to charge a fee to those who wish to leave a tribute. you pay say.. 100L to join the group which allows you to leave your token without it being autoreturned..and any money raised is given to causes/charities important to the person or event being remembered.

Edit: or what about a script which only allows one object per avatar to be dropped within a certain radius? anything > 1 is returned.

Yeah, I too am aware of 2 other memorials, one of which has been standing for over 2 years and never seen any problems with griefers.

I guess the Jesse Malthus Monument is still new and thus has been talked about on the forums and in world, alerting griefers to it's prescence. It's a real shame, but no suprise. A local cementary near me was completely trashed recently (in rl I mean), headstones smashed, defaced, graves disturbed. I hate the fact that i sound old for saying this but I just dont get the kids mentaliity nowadys, either in RL or SL. I was certainly no angel when I was a teenager but would never consider desecrating a monument or resting place of the deceased.

Geesh i was starting to think very poorly of the forums for a moment there... TY to those who got the graffitti particles removed and so forth! I hope this won't bring undue attn to the memorial in a negative way. And to the griefer, i hope i catch you lurking in a combat zone someday so you can taste the Eye of Horus, and that you never lose anyone inworld that you care about.
I second the motion to make it so that you first pay to join a special group before planting your tributes... it seems logical that it would deter, and if it didn't- give the money to the grieving parents...so that their momentary fun would do someone some good.
I didn't know you Jesse, but i wish that i had...

This is a PERFECT example of why SL needs age verification.

From what I have read, Jesse Malthus himself was underage, and no one knew it until he died and it was revealed that he was a 17 y/o high school student. Apparently he behaved much more maturely than many people who are of legal age and was a great contributor to SL - and he never would have been here in the first place if SL had age verification.

That's because they are Electroids from Planet Ten in the 8th dimension. Not to worry, Buckaroo will be along soon to kick their cans back to where they belong. ;)

Hmmmm, as a demoness you would think that I remembered to take along my oscillation overthruster, quite handy that. It slices, dices and julliannes griefers into shoestring potatoes. :D

Roflcopter Yaya
Roflcopter Many Jars
Roflcopter Smallberries
Roflcopter Parrot
Roflcopter Bigbooty
Roflcopter Nolan
Roflcopter O'Connor...

All these people applied for Social Security cards in the same town in New Jersey on the exact same date.

No, no, Reno, there are no ages or places of birth. Uh... Grover's's Mill. Grover's Mill... nineteen thirty-eight... why is that so... familiar?

ain't that the truth? I met Jesse a few times but didn't realise he was 17 until after his untimely death. Don't we all make a mental guess at the age of people we know well, but are too afraid/polite to outright ask? I thought Jesse was in his late twenties/early thirties.

He was a nice guy. I'm sure he's up there somewhere rolling his eyes at us right now. RIP mate.

If it's any consolation, young vandals have been trashing cemetaries since time immemorial.

In which case you have to accept missuse by a minority as par for the course (was that a golfing metaphor!? Whoops!).

its no metaphor lol

I dont think a lot of people understand and come to flame threads and troll them as "serves you right you left permissions a certain way"

some facts I used golf but it could be pool or chess or anything which requires users of the land to rez something obtained on the land

you need build and scripting turned on and autoreturn turned off its pretty hard to get a scripted golf club to work which scripting turned off, rez a golf ball with build turned off and play golf if autoreturn is set to under 20 minutes. Its just common sense and I get kinda weary of seeing the "what do you expect" trolling garbage that shows either stupidity or boredom i'm not sure which when people say stuff like that.

In any event if everyone turned off all permissions on land sims would be pretty useless for public use this memorial is no different

build is needed to rez and object from inventory
autoreturn needs to say off if the object is to remain

So I wonder what people are thinking when they make comments and flames about "serves you right" and "what do you expect" you turned off those settings. Well yes of course they are turned off...

I never met the boy, but it sounds as if he was one of those brilliant/funny people who make this world one worth waking up to every morning.

So, perhaps his surviving friends failed to set land permissions properly. It therefore "serves them right" to have their friend mocked? To say such things to people while they are grieving is more than unkind.

Too bad they didn't have someone with landowner powers right there at the time. Would have taken care of the whole thing. And oh yes, an AR. Disrespecting the dead is right down there with eating garbage and going to the morgue and fucking corpses, in my book.

Sure he would of, it's easy to get around that stuff if you are determined.

He didn`t belong on the teen grid.

He was a really smart kid who interacted with people much better than those beyond his age.

I think many were surprised he was only 17. I wasn`t a friend of his but I always thought he had to of been 19-20.
