I hope by then SL will truely be a seamless world where walking from one sim to the next dosnt mean 30 seconds of floating in the air or falling followed by a rubber band effect that brings you (hopefully) back to the Sim edge.

I hope we can walk/fly/drive/ride/swim from grid to grid seamlessly :)

Guessing what the future will bring is so irrelevant. You can make a list from here to next year and it doesn't mean a thing.

Late fall, 2008: Microsoft Inc. chair Bill Gates, while administering his charitable foundation in a remote area of Nigeria, contracts previously undiscovered strain of avian influenza. Slips into coma.

January, 2009: Launch of Webcorp, an “Internet investment consortium” announced. Rumours are rampant concerning actual ownership but speculation seems to centre on a Japanese electronics consortium, European pharmaceuticals company and at least one major oil company. Buried in Internet news stories because of this buzz is an announcement that former Linden Labs CTO Cory Ondrejka has joined Anshe Chung Enterprises in an “advisory capacity.”

March, 2009: In a hostile takeover bid, Webcorp acquires controlling interest of Microsoft Inc.

Christmas, 2009: announces Third Wave, “Your 3d Virtual Experience” to launch Jan.1 2010.

January, 2009: Third Wave launches. Initial reviews praise stability of the gird in general, the innovation and fluidity of the graphics engine, and unparalleled customer service. Graphics, while unspectacular, are nevertheless seamless and unobtrusive.

February, 2009: Linden Lads reinstates “First Land” program.

March, 2009: Third Wave announces partnership with Mattel Inc., institutes “Barbie’s World” a promotion in which virtual land is provided to residents wishing to build dream houses, create fashion and socialize.

April, 2009: Linden Labs announces Windlight II.

June, 2009: Third Wave announces “Performance,” a program whereby registered live musicians are provided free access to streams, regular performance venues without charge throughout the grid, and a stipend for providing content. A “festival” rotating between venues kicks off the program featuring Max Kleene, Norris Shepherd, Silas Scarborough, Dallas Horsefly, Noma Falta, Capos Calderwood, Angel Stormwind, Etherian Kamaboko, kevinbear Watanabe, Grateful Stryker, Chronic Skronski, Kaklick Martin, Snow Gretzky and 26 other performers. In an unprecedented alliance, Fender and Gibson guitars sponsor and underwrite the event, through OD Designs.

July, 2009: As more and more off-world corporate ventures begin to see the value in the captive audience Third Wave provides at live music events, sponsorship becomes commonplace.

September, 2009: Linkin Park, The Rolling Stones, and Kenny G begin regular performances in Third Wave, headlining that each feature one “pioneer” and one “emerging” online performer.

Jan.1, 2010: Third Wave announces several corporate “associations.”

July, 2010: Third Wave announces combination 3D web experience, browser, email package.

September, 2010: In the most unprecedented technological and cultural revolution in human history, web browsers, email clients, FTP sites and almost every web practice standard in the summer of 2008 has been replaced by the Third Wave concept system.

October, 2010: Linden Labs announces the virtual world of Second Life is being taken offline for a major retrofit.

December, 2010: Linden Labs ceases operations.

Jan. 1, 2011: A lone male avatar sits on a mountain top watching the horizon as two small dots begins to grow. The dots approach, revealing a second and third avatar. Avatar No. 2 approaches the first. “Here are the keys,” says the first avatar. “I’m sorry it had to happen this way Phil,” says the second. “I am sorry too Phil,” says the third avatar, a female.

Jan. 2, 2011: Bill Gates miraculously awakens from coma.

My first thought on reading the original post was "Sounds lovely. I wonder what company will actually deliver on such dreams? Unlikely that LL will do so, that fast."

Seriously though, I think some of those are on target.

I can confirm that even with a really high-end Mac, the Dynamic Shadows alpha-test banch of the SL client is still unusable. I tried it, and got a really messed up screen. Sure looked sweet in Torley's video, though.
