InSL u find every kind of no-life retard you could possibly imagine as well as a few even Tim Burton couldnt imagine u find 12yr-olds claiming to be 40 men claiming 2 be women, women claiming 2 make sense and every1 claiming 2 have ideas that are actually worth a damn if only someone would just listen to their unique innovative and exceptionally important idea

Veeck, if your intent in owning land is to enjoy it, go for it. If your purpose is to make money or make an investment, I advise extreme caution.
You see, land in SL is very different from land in RL. In RL, in general, they're not making any new land. Also, in RL, it takes more time to go between distant places than between nearby places. Neither of these is quite true in SL. In SL, they're making new land all the time. Furthermore the resources used to make this new land are computing resources, meaning the price keeps coming down as technology improves, market forces and international economic situation being what they have been since the 80's at least. So, in theory, land prices should continue to fall, but with big up and down bumps caused by differing trends in land availability and demand (these trends tending to follow server wetup and SL population trends). Therefore, buy land for fun if you want it, and HAVE FUN. If you're buying land as an investment, either consider it a risky short-term investment, or have a solid plan for some way of generating revenue such as by improving it, managing it, and renting out plots -- also a risky business. |

You see, land in SL is very different from land in RL. In RL, in general, they're not making any new land. In today's Guardian there's a piece about how they're creating artificial islands ("The World Islands" near Dubai and planning to flog them for $10m dollars a time, and the owners can build what they like on them. The photo looked like a real version of SL! http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/050228/050228_dubai_island_hlg7a.hlarge.jpg it seems that if you've got enough cash then you can live your SL in RL.... [of course, in RL there's this thing called global warming and rising sea levels... making the investment a little risky?). |
