It has always worked fine for me. I noticed that in one recent viewer update, it was checked again, and I was getting logged out until I went back in and unchecked it again.
Of course, I always operate maximized, and leaving SL minimized for extended periods will still log me out. That has always been the case, though, even with the flag.

I've always used this feature because I'm a content creator in SL and i use photoshop, wings3D, and sometimes Poser. While I'm using these 3rd party programs i have to use this feature to keep myself from being logged out when I'm not really away at all. So I've had no choice but to use the nicholaz client because at least his client works. Which is more then i can say for the official client.

From: 3Ring Binder Svar, this does not work. once you minimize, you go AFK, and after the time limit that you have set in preferences runs out (max 600), you are logged off. what are you doing different than that, that allows you to NOT be logged off, or appear AFK? You can't minimize, you have to leave SL open but last night I did open other programs on top of SL and was still logged this morning. If I go to another account on my computer SL gets minimized and I will get logged out. A few months ago I could have multilple accounts open with SL running in each one and never get logged out.

I agree with Porky ...
I pay to use SL as i see fit, again as a land owner I can do what i like with my land. BUT lets be honest Anti AFK devices or settings are used for either camping or just sitting on a sim to increase traffic.
I accept that SL client is a memory hole that needs fixing and sometimes just minimising the client can release that memory but I know one camping area that appears to be full untill a certain users computer crashes or there net connection go down and 6 Avatars suddenly go offline.
Removing the RL cash part of SL will kill its attractivness to many, I can only suggest that ALL accounts should be verified, accounts that do not respond to random emails etc should be suspended pending verification. But at the end of the day....... SL has various groups
1. Those that pay to play the game in membership and investment, provide services and methods for other players to earn money and recieve goods.
2. Those that dont pay to be members but do invest in the game as consumers and may also camp to give a few extra lindens, possible may rent from other members
3. Those that dont pay to be members that use the game as a chat room, they may camp to earn for clothes etc, but use the game as a social network therefor sitting for days saying nothing negates the purpose
4. Those that dont pay to play the game, dont buy anything but sit in an area for 24/7 in order to convert that money into $$
the ONLY group above that I say load SL is group 4, as they bring NOTHING to the SL universe.... they dont bring money ..... content or EVEN themselves. They remove money from the game never to be brought back in.
now I say ......
I run a money tree, I run a store, I own land and im a member therefor I bring content, money and services to Second Life..... if I want to sit in my shop at my desk for 24/7 then I have that right and have paid for it through both my membership and my RL costs (electric and internet). The point here is not the likes of Myself and Porky ... but users with 12 camping alts syphoning cash out the game.

Marty, I disagree with this so much I don't even know where to start, and if I did get going I'd probably end up getting banned from the forums. So just one thing. You have NO "rights" in SL. Where did this concept come from? The game is owned and run by LL and you've read the TOS, that explicitly takes away just about any right you can imagine. So you and Porky claiming that because you are paying "members" that gives you the right to be as antisocial as you choose is nonsense. In any case, login rules are the same for everybody, even a non-premium like me. You just invented that "right" (for a premium member to log in 24/7) for your own self-interest. And the implication that it's OK for you to log in 24/7 for your purposes but not for others to do the same is just plain dog-in-the manger (edited out) in my book. Your premium membershup doesn't give you any special "rights" in this regard. Premium membership gives you 2 privileges, to "own" (read rent) "land" (read server space) and to get a better level of support, that's it, that's all. If LL was prepared to change the code to totally prevent this sort of resource hogging, I and plenty of others would be delighted to support it, and it wouldn't in any way be an infringement on anybody's "rights". OK, just two things. Second, your four categories of resident are chimaeras invented to serve your argument. They aren't real and they don't include non-premium island owners, or content creators like myself (unless i mis-interpreted the grammar in category 1).
