is anyone else getting major packetloss since like wed of last week?

i've tried several different computers, on several different isp accounts, but all of which are the same ISP, same town... every test i'd tried shows major packetloss and but i really haven't seen anyone else talk or complain about it lately...

When the packet loss is high, what do the ping sim and ping user numbers look like?

If you watch it for a minute or 3 and it stays at similar numbers, that's not too bad.

Uh.. How about sim fps and unacked bytes?

sim fps: 45
time dilation: 99
total unpacked bytes: 336

Er.. All looks pretty good. Drat - I knew I shouldn't have answered this thread..

Are you lagging worse than usual? Does the problem follow you to other (preferably empty) sims?

Does it stay high in every sim that you are in? Or is it just a few of the sims you visit? Also, have you done a traceroute to LL and see if any packets get dropped?

visited a freinds sim and it went away... came back, and my sim was full of Packetloss, the sim in the same area are the same way, filled with packetloss...

we just rebooted the sim to see if it would change.

yes have done tracerts & pings... to LL and all seem ok. haven't tried pinging the sim hostnames though...

Do you or anyone around you use mega prims?

Do mega prims cause packet loss? or lag problems? I want to know so I'm careful when I use them.

well there are only two oof us that share the sim, and niether one of us has really done anything recently... no major building, or anything...

it all started last week during the rolling restarts and client updates...

and fyi, a restart did not solve the issue. neighboring sims have the same problem.

Mega prims can lag sims and cause packet loss. When the client tries to render these mega prims is can cause a "deep think." Because the rendering and networking aren't decoupled enough, while it is trying to render, packets get lost. I am not sure what uses of mega prims can cause these but I have been told this is the case.

well my skybox is at 300m and there is very little in the sky around it, maybe one small build about 150m away, other than that, nothing else is around. and i have no mega prims.

But she said sim fps was at 45 - rendering doesn't get any better than that. Ping user/sim are usually a good indication of network trouble but the numbers she quoted were pretty close..

It's possible that your service provider changed something and you're now getting more packets delivered out-of-order. For example, if packets are sent A B C, they could arrive as B C A. I saw a Linden post somewhere that implied that out-of-order delivery counts as packet loss, even if the packets aren't actually dropped in the network.

If they ever finish the change to using TCP rather than UDP, this problem will more or less go away. Well, it'll show up as slower communications, and how much slower depends on how 'deep' the reordering is and also how good the TCP end system code on your machine (Win, Mac, Linux) is.

BTW, anyone happen to know how good the TCP packet reordering is on the these three platforms? The TCP spec gives the implementation pretty wide range in handling it and results can vary dramatically: everything from making it nearly invisible to causing TCP timeout retries.

yes sim performance is pretty much perfect! as i right this TD is at 1.00, sim FPS is 45, physics FPS is 44.9, total frame time is < 18ms...

sim is perfect, but there is this odd packetloss issue... =/

i doubt this is the case since some sims on the other side of the grid are just fine...

and if it was only our sim i would thing its hardware, my isp, or somehting along those lines, but its our sim as well as a handful of other nearby sims all connected. and no its not mainland.

...

oh and when i asked live help about this. a linden replied with something along the lines of just log off and we will have a better network one day... =/

Client side rendering not server side.

How bad are you lagging?? If your concern is that the number seems high (and it is) but you're seeing any other effects, I'd write it off as a bug in the way packet loss is displayed.

no its effecting loading times of images and even prims... and half the time prims end up missing and textures take forever to load... and please remeber, eveything was perfect a week ago... and nothing has been changed on our end.

since the 1.14 udate packet loss has increased for me grid-wide. even using different pc's on different isp's. my brand new class 5 home sim disappeared the other night for 3 hours. Texture and avatar load times are sometimes painfully slow and chat lag to the point that prior chat shows after recent chat. this is the worst i have ever seen it. i dont think it is on client side. hope they fix it soon. skyboxes are not even lag free anymore.

LL uses two data centers now. If the bad sim is in one and the good sim in the other, it might explain the problem.

My packet loss flashes off and on. from 0.0% to 21.1% or so instantly.

If the server is in Dallas you get packet loss. It spikes over 90% often at intervals less than 30 seconds. I have friends that can't join the sim without getting disconnected every minute. Linden Labs claims this issue was fixed last week.

I just ran WINMTR and there is a "No response to host", 100% packet loss right before the "pnap.net"
