Updater download failing: help!

I've been trying repeatedly to download the updater over the last little while, and each time the download fails. It fails when I use the built-in SL updater-on-login, and it fails when I try to download it directly from the website. The download "concludes" after around 3-8Mb, incomplete, each and every time. Fortunately I can still use SL at present, but my partner, who has been unable to download it for *THREE WEEKS*, hasn't been able to get into SL at all during that time since the version on his machine is out of date.

I've trawled through old threads on this topic and have tried what they have suggested, specifically swtching off any firewall and anti-virus software before attempting to download. No dice. It *still* doesn't work.

For what it's worth, we're in Australia. Have any other Australian SL-ers had problems like these?

This is getting really frustrating and difficult. Is there any helpful soul out there who could maybe put a copy of the current updater file onto some webspace and share the link with me so that I could try to get it that way?

Nimbus, honestly, the new viewer seems to be crashing often for many people (myself included). I had it, but rolled back bc/ it crashed so often it was unusable. You might want to go without it for now anyway.

BTW. Sorry if I am misunderstanding your request. Someone with better answers will come along shortly most likely. I just know I had trouble getting it and when I did it was rubbish.

Thanks for the tip. I might go with that for the moment. But it still doesn't help my partner, who can't get onto SL at all due to having an obsolete version of the client on his computer. If anyone has a copy of the current or prev-but-one updater that they could share with me, I'd be vastly grateful.

Also, I'm still after some ideas as to what might be causing this problem and how to work around it, coz if I have to find some helpful soul to send me a copy of the updater every time a new version's released, it'll get old real quick. *sigh*

Thanks for the link. It unfortunately also fell over when I tried to download it, which could suggest that the problem's with my ISP; alternatively, that file is hosted by the same place as the regular updater, so it could just as easily be a problem relating to Amazon S3 specifically.

I'll keep trying to download it, but if anyone has any copies of the current-but-one version of the updater sitting on some webspace that ISN'T part of Amazon, I'd welcome a chance to have a go at downloading that, to see if it works any better for me.

Strangely enough, all the rest of my internet services are working just fine. It's *only* this darned file that's giving me so much grief.

Nimbus - have you tried the Nicholaz client?
He's on version d or e now and it seems to be a good thing.

The joys of Google - after a bit of hunting around looking for download mirror or game file download site that might contain the updater file, I eventually tracked down this: http://games.internode.on.net/filelist.php?app=2153&menu=1
Which at the moment contains the v1.17.0 client updater, but I dare say that'll change soon. :-7

I'm posting the link here in case anyone else is having problems downloading it from Amazon S3. BTW, this one downloaded without a single hitch, and my partner now has SL running on his computer (for the first time in over three weeks!). Yay!

Mine crashes at 48k every time I try to "auto update", with some complaint about a firewall (which, common sense says you never turn off anyway). Eventually I went to www.secondlife.com/downloads and got it direct from there, and it worked first time.

I hope they manage to fix this before tomorrow.
