Curious about something.... Does skin change the way your face shape looks on each person? It seems like some skins change me completely.

For example, if we all wore the LL Clubgoer Female, took a pic and posted it here, would we all look the same?

I'd love to see some pics of us in our regular skin that we wear all the time and a 2nd one of us wearing our clubgoer female/clubgoer male skin. Sort of like a Before/After pictorial.

For the most part, skins don't seem to change my appearance all that much other than the tone and makeup. Only the really outlandish looking ones really make a huge difference it seems.

If you go to my flickr page, you can browse through and take a look for yourself. I have a ton of self-portraits there to make comparisons by.

However, I'm game to try that Clubgoer comparison! If my boss goes out, I'll go inworld and make a swap and take a picture and post it later!

Oh whew..you added clubgoer male as an option.

Because, beard aside, there are a couple of differences people would be bound to notice. :D

Oh...right the topic...

The skin I wear now made a world of difference in how I look. My original skin looked goofy on the shape I was wearing. The instant I put the current skin on, I was like..."Yeah...*that*'s what I'm talkin about".

I don't know how much of that is attributed to going from a shaven face to a beard though. Probably quite a lot actually.

Yes, a few of my skins change how my face looks to a great degree. Quite annoying.

For me, absolutely yes. My first main skin in SL was a pale and quite boyish (but very well-known and popular) one. I wore it for practically my first year in SL, and only changed it for a much darker, androgynous and exotic one around my first rezday. And, to me, I look *completely* different. I took a comparison pic a few months ago. I've edited my body shape a tiny bit since then, but have made no edits whatsoever to my face.

Here's the pic:

I rather like the idea of the Clubgoer Male skin challenge, so I might do that as well.

One thing I'll add, though, and that is: hair makes a difference, too. Even my new, darker skin looks more boyish when I wear my old, original 'Shun' hair...

yes Jerboa, i do mean to include the boys too. i'm curious how different we each look from the basic clubgoer newb skin vs. the one we have chosen to represent us.... and more importantly, how similar we each are while wearing the clubgoer skin... or how different.

thanks for posting pics Elora. i can't wait to see 2-3 and how same/different they might be. i'll do mine also, this afternoon.

For me, changing skins does change my looks, sometimes significantly (makeup options aside). Heh, and then there's when I am neko, wearing my white leopard skin... :p.

My flickr site (http://flickr.com/photos/maureenboccaccio/) has pics of me from almost my first day...but not wearing the clubgoer skin. I'll take a pic of that tonight.

Oh, hell yeah! I never change my skin, but I do change my hair every day. I've had lots of people say they wouldn't know it was me if it weren't for my name over my head.

So...what is a clubgoer skin?

Ok I couldn't resist and I snuck inworld. Here are 3 comparisons 3Ring. I have to say the Clubgoer skin is something I would NEVER use - it's far too dark for me, but they are. I don't see such a huge difference in them as far as my features are concerned - just skin tones, perhaps a small difference in lips but I still look like "me".

Now here is a skin I wear all the time, FreeSpeerit Ashley DaPink:

And another favorite, LaSylphide Ingrid:

Having been through numerous skin changes lately, I can emphatically state that skin doesn't change how I look...much. My face didn't change until I changed my shape.

It's a combination of things......I created an example image sheet and posted it to flickr....if you change your skin....and keep the same hair and eyes, then yes....you'll look 'similar' but obviously not the same (just as if you made a dramatic change to your makeup IRL and got a mega tan lol)
But...if you change your hair and eyes also......you'll find you can dramatically alter one shape to many different looks. I do it all the time with my photos.....I make shapes.....and often times I'll use one shape for a while and just alter her 'look' to suit the projects I'm working on. Sometimes it's easy to tell the shape is the same....and other times, depending on the skin/hair/eyes I use.......it's so entirely different. Here's an example of a what I do.....

I've heavily self-customized my shape, and to be quite honest, there aren't a lot of differences between skins when I change, I still look like MoxZ although if I change the hair, I get bugged and will completely go back to my default self.

I haven't tried any of the newbie skins though and now my curiosity is peaked. Clude me in! After work.

I bought my first skin about a month and a half after entering SL. My main concern was actually the skin altering the appearance I had greated by then, so I was no longer "me". I went for a rather neutral skin that sort of worked for me.. until I found the store I buy most my skins from now. It changed my look a bit, but more in the direction I originally wanted, so those are my most used skins now. I have a few pics I took while I honly had a few skins, here are three of them.

Excess Cream - This is from the older Excess skins, I now use Rose.

Luke from Adam and Eve.. After getting Excess I have often wondered how I could be pleased with this, but then.. I went from system skin..

And Scorpio from Abyss.. I see this on "everyone" now. Well at least I stick with my own shape when I use it. :p Love the look of the lips on it, but the skin isn't really "me".

I've taken some pics, but I have to run out of the house for a while and can't post them just yet.

The Clubgoer skins are probably not the best two for comparisons, because they're not by the same designers. Clubgoer Male is by Adam n Eve and is a classic newbie SL skin (very pale, too). Clubgoer Female is by Nylon Pinkney, and is much more lively and in her very distinctive style, with heavy make-up. So there will be differences when the girls post their comparison pics to when the boys post their comparison pics. I would have suggested the two Renegade skins - Musician Male and Musician Female - as better examples: both by the same designer so there is less difference to be found.

On me, Clubgoer Male looks absolutely washed out and bland (probably because the skins I've bought have always been heavy on the eyeliner). But looking at Elora's pics there, the Clubgoer Female skin looks much brighter and less washed-out, and even though there is a contrast between the two skins pictured, it's much *less* of a contrast than that which you'll see when I post my pics :D.

(For those asking, the Clubgoer skins are in the Clothing section of your inventory's Library folder, where all the default LL stuff is.)

I'm game. I only changed skins, didn't adjust the shape or the eyebrows.

Curio Radiance Sienna:

Clubgoer female:

Thought I would throw in a picture of my favorite fantasy skin. Even though the color is wildly different, I like this skin because I feel like Nim still looks like Nim...only blue.

Amara - not sure which Ingrid this is off hand, but i LURVE it :) I just got another one off the lucky chair she put in her store! Took forever for "E" to come up but was worth the wait. I've gotten nearly as many compliments on that skin (Ingrid) as I have on my FreeSpeerit skins, which is saying a lot.

Different skin always changes the shape of my face, sometimes there is a big difference and sometimes a little bit of difference. I mainly stay with one skin, but have a huge collection of demo skins and of course a few fantasy skins. I usually take the demo skins that I like and change my face shape and save it so that when I do go and buy those skins, I have a face shape that goes well with the skin. Sometimes, no amount of slider work helps :( , but seldom do I find a different skin that I wouldn't have to end up adjusting my facial features.

Here's the comparison pic, and as it turns out, the Clubgoer male is identical to the skin I bought 9 months ago. It was an expensive skin back then.. Imagine that..

Back home, and here are my pics. I mentioned hair earlier in my reply to this thread, so I've made my sets of screenshots with the three main hairstyles I've worn in SL, too, so you can see the difference they make. I've also included a fourth pic with the same skin and all three hairstyles, showing the huge difference they make.

Summary: I *need* eyeliner, dammit! The Clubgoer Male is waywayway too pale, pasty and uninteresting for me. Dante worked well for me, but I'm sticking with XS now.
