As far as I'm concerned, I'm more suffering from overdose than from addiction.

From: Daisy Rimbaud OK, who here is addicted to RL? Do you find you just can't stop? Every day, you have this compulsion to wake up, get out of bed, do stuff ...
SL is a way of breaking that addiction. *raises hand sheepishly* ... and seriously. *goes back to work*

Yes and no. I am compulsively drawn to log in in the morning where I used to read the paper and watch GMA. When I get to work I troll the forums because I can't log on (instead of the gossip blogs), sometimes even do an outfit when I have some downtime. When I get home I log in and I'm pretty much gone for 2 or 3 hours (I make myself stop and eat lol) as opposed to old Happy Hour or vegging with Oprah. OK, occasional happy hour.
Point is, my time in second life really just replaces old downtime activities. I just feel like my brain is a bit more active when I'm creating and building. I'm a hobby person (before SL, I sculpted an Asian ball jointed style doll from styrofoam and sawdust - took a year) and worked on 1/3 scale kimonos. With SL. I can talk to people and see my creations go to the public and sail, and surf, and skydive and...endless!
Additionally, I have an occasionally very stressful job in RL (creative/art director for major fashion brand) and tend to take it home. A couple of years back, my doctor even suggested I begin taking medication for anxiety and the occasional full blown panic attack. I chose (foolish ninnny that I am hehe) not to go that route. In SL I find that a couple of hours somewhere else really helps the day to "melt away". It's my Xanax! ROFL
So, addictive - yes. Addiction - no. (but sometimes I forget to eat)

Addicted? Pfff...
That is what people say who are jealous because I rather spend time in SL than be with them. I can't help it SL is much more fun than RL.
Of course I don't intend to stop playing SL. I have friends in SL I would really miss if I don't log on. I also have paid a year's subscription in advance and invested several 100 US$ in it.

I'd say I'm pretty addicted. I mean, I'm one of those sorts dat when I see trees swaying in the pbreeze, my peripheral vision "reads" them as Linden trees.
Yet I really can pull away from it if need be, and there are, quite frankly, times when I'd much rather be out there amongst the real trees, ya know?

There needs to be a Second Life Annonymous group, where us addicts can discuss our addiction and try to come up with ways to spend time in real life again.

well i guess if when someone wakes you in the morning and the first thing that comes up to mind is a option pie and you get stuck with a mind loop "what action should i take, what action should i take" is addiction, well then i'm addicted for sure.

Yes - totally addicted!! I'm also on the forums at work (like now), when I can't be in-world. And I wonder quite often if that tree, skirt, picture..etc in rl would work well on my land, on my avie, or in my house in sl (and how many prims they would require ) From: Arksun Tone

Love it! Only, I disagree with a rl group..... I think we should start an SL group - 'Real Life Annonymous' to help people like me get over our abhorrence of real life obligations that continue to interrupt our second lives. hehe Kaly

From: Aislinn Jewell I'm just soo gload to see that is not just me!!!
When I close my eyes at night, I swear things are still rezzing for about 15 minutes!!! When I close my eyes at night ... I see 'logging out' .... just before my head hits the keyboard! A girl glared at me the other day when I stared blankly at her ... I said 'Is that ETD or Gurlywood?' I drove across a county boundary at the weekend .. and closed my eyes waiting to 'submarine'! My fiancee missed the '£' key the other night in ICQ telling me what something cost and got '$' instead. Before realising, I'd asked if that was Lindens or US. Some of my RL friends are also SL friends ... all my fault Addicted to world at night, forum at day .. still learning .. and loving it

Tried to buy new boots at lunch, but the Clik, pie/buy option wasn't working. Is this a bug or just a problem with the server for the Louis Vuitton Madison Avenue SIM?

Hello Jax, despite your question seemingly having not a lot to do with this thread .. .. I found a very similar thing last night myself .. then realised it was a different form of vendor. Did you have a 'Pay' option?

What do you mean addictive??? Of course I get sleep.. SL shuts down for updates doesn't it?? and I grab a nap at the loggin screen and when I'm waiting for a TP..... Thankfully LL built in these niffty features to make sure we are all as 'normal' as can be! <grabs the phone nearby to order more pizza.... reaches into the closeby fridge for more beer... clicks the remote to answer the front door>

OMG I know what you mean. I spend 6 hours with my baby and it feels like 6 minutes.
You know that dream stage right before you wake from rl sleep. Not awake but not asleep. I find myself IM'ing my baby, and he does not answer me. OH no, wake up and turn the dang computer on before he is gone from my life.
Addicted no, I don't think so either. I live in SL not in RL anymore, so no addiction for me. Thank goodness I work from my home, so no one can steal my life from me. Have been thinking about unpluging my laptop and carrying it around the house with me.

I love Second Life, but the other day, I had a nightmare about it. I dreamed that my avatar had me pinned against a corner and was trying to burn me with a big prim cigarette. For some reason he was wearing a trenchcoat. It was frightening. When you start dreaming about SL....yeah, I may have a problem, lol.
