H U G E ! Lag spikes .. just me ?

Hi not sure if it's just me and my friends , but we are getting H U G E ! Lag spikes ... even on islands that are normay lag free even at peak times .

So bad is the lag you cant even walk at times .... then its gone ... few minz later like walking in butter .

So .. just me ... or is anyone else haveing ( larger than normal ) Lag spikes ?

Is your graphics card an NVidia?

What platform are you on?

Problem is not at my end ...im one of the gifted lucky people who NEVER has a problem with SL , This has only just began since about sunday , it was befor i updated to the new version ... so i thought i would update and see if it fixed it ... still the same .

Normaly hassle free here .. a bit choppy at weekends ... normal stuf .. fail to res ... shoes up my ares after a tp ... but this seems very out of place for me right now .

Anyone else ?

I'm beginning to suspect that something causes the NVidia driver to go into a high CPU consumption for a short period sending the CPU into 100% utilisation and generally slowing the machine down.

There's a jira issue seeing this on Linux but I'm beginning to think it isn't just limited to Linux. There are also a number of reports of similar issues on Macs with NVidia drivers. I'm seeing this on Windows.

I don't think it's the NVidia problem...

I have an ATI X800XT and the latest drivers, and I'm also seeing the huge lag spikes which, starting last night, were also causing total hangups and I had to kill SL using the Task Manager.

I thought the problem was only when I was in Edit mode and using my camera to rotate or zoom in or out, but last night after I was finished editing, I went to a fairly quiet sim to just look around, and when I tried to rotate my camera - boom: the viewer completely hung up.

I think there's an intermittent yet severe problem with the new viewer. Whether or not it's related to voice (which I have turned off), I don't know.

All I know is its really annoying.

I've got an ATI X1950 (something) and I've also got voice turned off, but I've seen the same isses as Rooke.

I'm also getting lag spikes, as are others I've talked to (in text & voice). I never really had such bad lag spikes before.

I've noticed that a lot too since the last update. I rarely have a problem except in ultra high traffic zones where everyone is lagged out......now it creeps up on my at my own house where I've never ever had issues.

I thought it might be Nvidia too....but I recently update mine and now that I'm seeing others are experiencing it too....I'm more convinced it's the game. (such a love/hate relationship we all have with SL ey)

Someone mentioned that the memory hog bug is back in the newest version of the client, that would explain the sudden spikes in client side lag.

Normally I crash every hour or so... but last night it was worse than normal... a couple of times happened while moving my camera around... I think there is a bug with camming that will hang the client.

Sim time dilation issues? Every sim I've been in today has had the time dilation fluctuate abnormally low, some down into the teens and single digits! Some seem to only get back up to 100% for a few seconds, while another only dropped twice in an hour and half...

I have had big lag spikes too; using nVidia newer card (7950). Will see if there are new drivers.

I experienced some lag spikes Sunday. It seemed to be server side: Client numbers looked OK, but sim fps dropped and fluctuated in range 1 - 10, time dilation in range .01 -.5, then then finally back to normal. Each spell lasted about 5 minutes. Maybe 3 or 4 times over the course of about 2 hours. My shop is on the edge of a sim, if I struggled through the butter to the next sim, things were fine, back to my sim lag, ...

Later in the day, I did some random jumping around 20 different sims on the mainland on a different project, I jumped into 2 other similar instances.

I even thought about writing an "is it me" post. But I figured it was just SL having one of its days.

FWIW, I have a NVIDIA 8600 GTS.

Huge lag, living in a land of packet loss.

Ever since Voice became mandatory, so I've been blaming it on that.

Makes me dread getting on, actually.

Glad to know it's not just me. For whatever consolation that is.

Seems to be an issue that needs to be addressed ....Its not a isolated problem and its not a hardware problem ...so its serverside.

Not having many issues myself in the last 12 months ... i have no idea about how to go about bringing this to the attention of the powers that be ( or not )

So what shall we do ?

Same thing has been happening to me since Sunday. Massive lag, can't TP anywhere , I can't move, textures take 20min to come up. But oddly I can move the camera around. On the plus side the frame rate stays at a respectable 25-35 fps.. Just can't do anything; can be like this for 1/2 hour before the client crashes.

This is happening on both the Linux Client (which I normal use) and the Windows client installed on a Laptop (Used as a last resort if all else fails). SL has been unusable since Sunday, have sent in a Problem report about this.

Very bad lag spikes, and not new.

Shakeshead.......As they said voice is on a different server. But look people getting LArge Lag Spikes. I not getting any. And i am onthe older version. But TP are starting to have problems again. And Ruth is happening yet again.

Voice maybe on a different server, but there are 2 voice apps that run on the client machine: SLVoice.exe and SLVoiceAgent.exe.

Not saying that they are the cause of or are involved in whatever is causing any of the problems, but...

For the last two days, i've been experienceing Vicious Lag Spikes Lasting between 15 and 30 seconds, PL Slams to the top of the Red Zone, and everything freezes. For the last Few days, since the latest Update, My Girl has been Crashing every 90 minutes or so. neither of us has experienced any Teleporting problems, and Only Once has My Lag, and Her Crash Coincided. I'd have to say it was caused by the new Update, but by What part i couldn't say with any certainty.
