stereotype

Well, I guess that when someone from a certain country posts something along a certain line, that stereotype grows stronger... Anyway... end of the issue, if you ask me.

Yes, let's hope it's the end of the issue. No matter what country you come from, if you are going to stereotype others, be prepared to get stereotyped yourself. [Begins listing world-famous atrocities by country...hhmm, getting a lot of countries here...]

How did this turn into a country vs country thing?
It was a lighthearted way to make a point, not aimed specifically at germans, americans or any other nationality.

If you don't get the joke, load up babelfish and translate the text. Smile, laugh if you want, nobody is taking a pop at your nation.

Actually, SL was originally a clever plot by the Electric Utility Industry to keep people glued to their computers, running up their electricity bills. But its greater potential was recognized by certain shadowy Forces, who took it over to further their secret international plot, Globalism. Next step: World Domination! Pass it on...

Dude, that was awesome, you made me laugh and rankled a citizen.

and started discussions on the nature of violence in the U.S vs the violence statistics of Europe, and the line between game violence and real violence, and the insideous plot by Electric sheep to use the electric company to enable world domination. Strange how things progress. No ill intent was meant. In fact, "Ich habe deutsche Freunde, die ich nicht schieße!"

Just blame it all on die Schafmaschine. Clearly it is the cause of all of Second Life's ills. ;)

One would think so, anyway, from reading these forums!

Some would think so! I think the 'stick everybody in this thing whether they want to or not and force you to manually quit' is my biggest problem. We tend to lose more items to glitch anomolies than unauthorised shoppers. I whipped up a t-shirt anyway.

Maybe I will put fifty of em up for sale for zero dollars and let the sheep-bot advertise em for me ;)

Hmmmm, I'm sure this would vary from state to state in the US (plus i'm not quite sure about it) but, I believe if you set up signs that say things like "no tresspassing" or "tresspassers will be shot" on your RL land (in places that are clearly visible), you can shoot someone that steps on your property. Of course that probably wont save you from litigation. But anyways, lol, would it be acceptable to put up a tresspassers will be orbited sign up on your property and shoot people if they step on your virtual land?

P.S. I appreciate the point of the OP's thread. I found it creative and entertaining. I'm sure the Electric Sheep Bot results page will result in lots of people being caged, frozen, ejected, shot, set on fire, orbited, and killed. (In Second Life of course)

Generally, most states say that only reasonable force may be used with tresspassers. Unless the person was threateningyou with some sort of bodily harm, shooting would be frowned upon. The exception is Texas, I believe, which allows for more forceful actions.

Now the question really should be "Is the electric sheep search site really multi-lingual?" Because if it isn't, then maybe Winter had every justification to blow them away since something was obviously wrong here ... them knowing English one moment and "forgetting" it the next.

I smell a plot...

(Oh, and I was laughing my head off when I read it the first time - great post!)

In the US you CANNOT shoot someone for merely tresspassing or, in most states for stealing from you. You have to be in fear of imminent bodily harm. In many states, if the tresspasser is indside your house and refuses to leave it is PRESUMED that you are in fear of bodily harm.

You didn't hear it from me but many informed commentators believe if you do shoot someone, make sure the dead body is completely inside and a a weapon such as a knife or hatchet in their dead hand is anice tough.

My father, uncles and two older brothers always maintained that if someone breaks into their houses, they better call a forklift because the burglar will be so full of lead the paramedics would never get him on the stretcher without mechanical help.

This is why there are relatively few "hot" burglaries [victims are home at the time] in states with few gun control laws compared to states with very restrictive gun control laws.

If I were a burglar, I would rather ply my trade in New York or Massachusetts as opposed to Texas or Tennessee. Its safer in NY or Massachusetts....for the burglars anyway.

Thank You, I was hoping you would pick up on my brief explanation, Susanne.
I thought it was funny little story, sour grapes on those who took it too seriously. But it can be a way wars can start....Just look at Captain Scarlet and the Mysterions......

Brenda, Thank you!! Frankly I love your posts!! I have gotten to the point that if I have the time, I read your posts, even on subjects I do not understand or am uninterested in, simply for the intelligence and literary value. Let's get together in "world" sometime. I am generally on from around 7:00 p.m. SL time.

Personally I think my dad, uncles and brothers are right, but with a 7 yr old at home, I choose not to have firearms around. I do wish someone could actually shoot and eliminate the sheep bot though. In SL not RL.

I would however LOVE to see Mr. "gee whiz look what I invented ESC sheep bot" try his scam RL in TX, TN, OK, AZ, GA or Orange County, CA. The problem would be resolved post haste. I would happily send nice flowers to the funeral...but alas... he probably has more sense than to try THAT!
