So I go outside and notice the car I bought a few days ago still has the price tag on it. I quickly tore it off and breathed a sigh of relief. I went back inside the house to watch American Idol. An hour or so later I hear voices in the front yard. I look outside the window and see a man in a pleather jumpsuit and goggles, and a hot chick wearing a flexi mini and plunging neckline leather corset. They are standing around my new car.
PLEATHER MAN: "Dieses Auto ist nicht mehr für Verkauf" HOT CHICK: "ohh, nicht gut. Es ist eine schöne farbe." PLEATHER MAN: " die Schafmaschine gab uns schlechte Informationen!"
I walk outside, and say hello. The hotchick waves and the guy bows like a duke. Pleather man looks at his girlfriend.
PLEATHER MAN: "Wenn ich dem mann einen koffer gebe, der mit bargeld gefüllt wird?" HOT CHICK: "ja, scheint der mann wie eine nette person!"
I go over to the car and look for smudged fingerprints on my new paintjob.
ME: " What can I do for you folks?" They look at me as tho I was speaking english.
PLEATHER MAN: " geehrter herr, habe ich einen Koffer, der mit bargeld gefüllt wird, würde Sie verkaufen dieses auto an mich? Ein geburtstaggeschenk für meine Schwester."
Not understanding a word of this, or having babelfish loaded up to translate, I find the sentance, 'ein Geburtstaggeschenk für meine schwester' sounds threatening. So I yank out my sawed off shotgun and blow em both off the sim.

It appears they were talking about being unhappy that the sheepbot gave them bad information and wanting to see if you would sell it to them anyway.
I think maybe he was saying at the end there that he wanted to buy the car from you as a present for his sister? I hope someone who knows more German than I do can enlighten us.
Disclaimer: My knowledge of German is about as good as that of my German Shepherd dog, so it shouldn't be too hard for someone else to do better. Hell, I don't even know for sure that they were speaking German! Could be Dutch for all I know.

Okay, I looked it up in a translator. I had to know.
German Geburtstaggeschenk= birthday present. German schwester, Schwester= sister, nurse.
Dude, you just blew two people away because the dude wanted to buy a birthday present for his sister.
I'm impressed that I was actually right the first time around!

Shooting someone because they don't speak English? It doesn't strike me as particularly funny. It's against the TOS, isn't it? Unless you're in one of the combat sims, I guess.

-Fo The moral of the story isnt that you could get killed for not speaking english. Its that the sheepbot can send you to a location where the item isnt really for sale. It didnt really happen, I made it up to present a light hearted look at the sheepbot experience. DOH!

I suspected something when you told me my translation was good, after you claimed not to know what the people in your story were talking about! Even though it wasn't your main point, people really could get 'killed' (as far as you can get killed in SL) for not speaking English, if the sheepbot sends them to a bad location and they're unable to explain what they're doing there! We Americans are a trigger-happy bunch, aren't we?

-Fo Well theres also the fact that on damage enabled land - being killed is just part of Second Life. Damage is still a parcel owner's control, I believe.

Maybe his land is designated a combat zone? Doesn't have to be a whole sim Funny I suspected a ruse was up, could have used a commando roll or 3 and possibly some good combat narration

Translation
04-23-2007 01:01
Winter just to help you I'll translate it to German which it is. here Goes. Pleather Man: This car is no longer for Sale Hotchick h not good, it was a nice colour Pleather Man: The Sheep Bot gave us bad information Pleather Man: I will give him a briefcase full of money (as if to say it will change your mind) Hot Chick: Yes, he seems like a nice man Pleather Man: Dear Sir, I have a briefcase full of money, will you sell the car to me? it is a Birthday present for my Sister. I do think your actions were a bit harsh, had he said; PLEATHER MAN: " geehrter herr, habe ich einen Koffer, der mit bargeld gefüllt wird, würde Sie verkaufen dieses auto an mich? Ein geburtstaggeschenk für meine Schwester." und Bitte, Leg dich nicht mit mir an! Then you should of blow him away, however, he was quite polite in his approach. Oh and the last bit translates: "and please don't --CK with me! Still, funny post.

Pondering the question of how long it will take for someone to walk into the "Volkshochschule" and gun down 31 students....? Probably "no damage" there though, 'cause they're European.
Must have had to be an American to laugh.

This really is unecessary - Europeans are responsible for more violent deaths in the history of the world than any other continent. Its also amazing how many people forget where American Culture has the majority of its roots. The Original poster probably only used German becuase that was a language he knew. The point of the story was somone looking to buy property that was never advertized. Which was confused for theft. And a second life reference was very much specific in the original post, therefore it wasnt a Real shooting from post 1.

Let's not upscale things, please.
I come from a territory where through the ages there have been a lot of small to big conflicts. We got some "rest" during the peak of the Roman Empire and after WWII.
However, here like in most of the European territory, it's not ok to shoot someone just because he happened to walk on your land.
That said and here I speak for myself only, the remark "Not understanding a word of this, or having babelfish loaded up to translate, I find the sentance, 'ein Geburtstaggeschenk für meine schwester' sounds threatening. So I yank out my sawed off shotgun and blow em both off the sim." did not sound much fun here.
It's a... game and nobody was really hurt, but those are things I don't want to hear or see, they don't fit well on my agenda.

It isnt in America either. Contrary to the stereotype, a person shooting someone for only trespassing on their property in the US is murder. Someone threatening the land owner with harm changes things. I imagine Self defense is used as a defense in Europe as well. Someone robbing you also changes things. But killing someone for just theft while trespassing, is not a self defense, and the land owner will face charges. Thus in the Original Poster's story the Landowner in question would have been arrested in the United States Real World. Even in the "Wild Wild" US. But in Secondlife its of course different.
