Aproaching my first birthday and I’ve been: Obited Set fire to Shouted at Threatened Had shoes and hair stuffed up my rear end Logged in to find I had developed breasts Run over by umpteen ‘rolling restarts’ Logged out with no notice Lost expensive items from my inventory Logged in to find a totally grey world Had my much loved first house surrounded by giant black prims Found myself surrounded by an Ad-farm Spent far more than is sensible on tier and land Ginko’d Had features foisted upon me which no one seems to want (voice)
…..??????
And yet I come back for more. Why oh why ?
I LOVE IT that’s why. A huge thank you to all the good friends I have made, and chance encounters with the people who far outnumber the jerks. A huge thank you to all those who create and share for nothing more than the fun of it.
Yes, let’s rid SL of big business casino’s, go away corporate’s you are not wanted and contribute nothing, let’s be on our guard against the use of sl for enacting child porn. But above all let’s retain the colour and fun, step back Lindens take note that it is the rank and file residents who make sl what it is, they are the ones you must nurture and encourage. Give us the tools and a stable platform PLEASE.

/me applauds. We bitch, we moan, we curse the Providers, we fight with each other, but we keep coming back. How many of us during yesterday's outage stayed at our computers, venting here and trying to log in every 30 seconds? That says something. I don't know what, but it says something....

*joins the applauding* I love my time on SL too much to trade it away for something else. A few days ago I kept thinking what I was doing with my time before I joined. Came up with things, yes, but for some reason, they seem no longer to be as fulfilling as they were back then. So yeah, I can take the occasional downtime. *pauses* OCCASIONAL.

I actually left SL for about 3 weeks. Didn't log in, didn't get frustrated with any of the bugs, lag, TP failures, search issues, etc. I shut the stores down that I had, left my land. It was sort of a relief to know that I could actually still do it (ala "I can quit any time I want.. I just don't *want* to..." Bottom line? I came back because I missed my honey (even though we had other venues for communication) and I missed my friends. So yeah, I hear ya on this one. I just wish it would work for 2 consecutive days without issues.

I think the same thing. I went away for a long weekend and didn't think of SL once, I was busy enjoying RL. But I think about those days when I have nothing particular to do, (Like yesterday ) and I'd rather be in SL than watching TV for the most part.

Well, in my opinion, it shows that we find value here. We get more out of it than we put in - otherwise we would have long since left. We may each value different things in here - money, friends, entertainment, ability to create/build, etc... But it all boils down to the fact that we find it worth investing time and money in SL.

Sorry. I'm no longer acting like an addict. Once upon a time, SL was pretty interesting. Now...it's a bug-infested, frustrating, experience. The administration seems to value resident input very little, if at all, and I'm sick of it.
I trumpeted SL as a great and innovative tool to my friends and co-workers. I joined the SL Educator's list...and looked forward to beginning some truly interesting work with some students and faculty.
And then...each and every time...without fail...that I attemtped to log in and demonstrate this cool, new place...I couldn't. Each. And. Every. Time.
So...I'm done with it. I'll be back to poke my nose in from time to time, just to keep track of some current research, but this place has become worthless. Perhaps someone will take the time to carefully develop a robust enough platform for this kind of work...but I have no confidence in LL to do the job any longer.

It's because you're addicted and like abuse. Plenty of people seem to go about thier SLs without being "set fire to", "orbited", "threatened" or "shouted at". Personally I don't mind the fire...it doesn't actually hurt! Perhaps someone will take the time to carefully develop a robust enough platform for this kind of work...but I have no confidence in LL to do the job any longer... CONGRATULATIONS!! So far, your post is the only one I am positive is not a Linden plant, and I applaud you for it. Why am I thinking the Lindens are planting pats-to-the-back? Well, I've been reading a similarly-themed post at SLX, but all of the posts are so different. Hell, I've contributed to the posts, and not in a Lindens-Are-Hard-Working-And-Great way, either; I don't like the taste of that Kool Aid. Basically, the thing that keeps me coming back to SL are my friends, some of whom I have alternate ways of contacting. I am on the verge of selling off my lands, or giving them to my friends, giving my RL email to my closer friends (those that don't already have it) and walking away from SL for good. The Linden's cant keep the grid up and working in a reasonable manner for any particular length of time, but they are more than happy to take your land fees every month, whether you were able to log in or not. In my opinion, LL needs to be financially responsible for their performance and, if they aren't willing to compensate us in some regard, then I'm taking my US$ and going home, to RL...

I know everyone is frustrated with the bugs and downtime... LL appears to really work like independent cell factions then a group. Everyone stepping on everyone else's toes over there... And yes, my mainland sim (I bought one at auction) is constantly surrounded by jerks with adfarms and the like. I'd had all manor of griefers and bad neighbours (ban lines and no script zones -I mean really, is that necessary?, and land griefer/extortionists - do you really need 3 spinning for sale signs on EACH of the 16m2 chunks your trying to sell for $2200 each?). I've even had my lake and river suddenly move to 768m in the sky (not linked items either, a real mystery)... But I've made many good friends and learned a lot. Sure there are annoying times, sure my sim's resale value dropped by 50% due to LL's land dumping, but in the end it's worth it. I use SL as a way to get away from my busy work filled life, where I can help others and share what I know without having to attach a price to it (RL consultant). I enjoy SL for fun and relaxation. In RL there are constant hassles and roadblocks, why would a vurtial world be any different? I just wish private estates were not so costly per month, so I could do my dream world. In closing, yes, LL really needs to hammer out the bugs, and they are working towards doing that by merging the beta grid into the real grid where they can fully test new builds in a live environment (that can be rolled back easily) before pushing them out grid wide. They also are making the client version independent so you don't have to constantly upgrade allowing for multiple firstlooks and 3rd party versions. We are close to seeing patches and stability research speed up considerably. And really? Is a rolling restart that big of a deal? But in the end SL is another world, where we are pretty much free to do whatever we want. I wish LL would allow us to choose what country our sim's servers were in so that we could have the rules of our own country in our own sim, but that will hopefully come one day. But for me, for the most part, SL is a great place to get away and be someone else for awhile. A vacation from myself and my FL worries. Viva SL! PS, my sim is called NECROS if you are so interested.
