In other words, people with more money than they know what to do with...

I disagree. Most VC firms perform a lot of due diligence on potential investments. LL targeted as a good VC investment speaks volumes. And LL's need for venture funding is not something for them to be ashamed of. If anything, it'll help get them more resources to operate and service their customers better. I won't hold my breath though. :)

Disturbing article to say the least. While I don't agree with it 100%, you can't refute many of the author's claims...

I skimmed it rather than reading it thoroughly but his main point seemed to be that people at the bottom (newbies) give money to people at the top. Well, err, that doesn't make it a pyramid scheme that makes it a normal economic system with a few producers and many consumers. Much like the real world.

I think the whole thing is an elaborate trolling attempt. That just become more obvious in his follow when he brags about how awesome and popular his first article was.

The part I found most disturbing was regarding LL's attempts to stabilize the currency rate. They sell L$ now to keep it stable, but will they buy L$ back when the Linden dollar weakens? Me no tink so...

The articles do not cover "Risk API" which re-enforces LL dictatorship over SL economy to keep any emerging financial institutions under direct control.
API is not voluntary but compulsory. I doubt that it is a capitalism.

I'm quite sure that restricting what free accounts can do, in order to encourage them to upgrade and "pay to play" would be better long-term than relying on VC to stay afloat.

Those are two different issues. Growing companies need venture capital money. It's normal.
