hehe... you know, I actually kind of enjoy a random griefing. It's funny as hell to log in one day and see giant green and blue penises all over your property. Sort of refreshing, I guess. Maybe I'm twisted... :p

i remember back in January, i was in a car dealer (forgot where)and i was
just standing there looking at some cars(waiting on them to rez) and out
of no where i was being shot a by a griefer but he was not a noob griefer
because he had on a expensive suit and expensive prim hair and hi-quality
dark skin, so the first thought that popped into my mind was to shoot back
(this was b4 i knew it was frowned upon by LL) and after 3-4 shots he was
gone(this was b4 i knew that carduccis guns had push/orbit on them)

but this is one of many times i have ran into a griefer

but now i can deal with them daily at my job and its really fun because
i have access to land tools now :D

but its sad to see that SL has been reduced to this

with almost 85% of the land being fully restricted to just about anything
it getting harder to find places to rez my toys(mostly cars and aircrafts)
and play with them.

thanks alot griefers :(

It seems to me that griefers WANT the negative attention of an AR or fighting back. My strategy has been to just ignore them completely, as you would a troll in a newsgroup. I've toyed with the idea of giving a griefer positive attention - heaping compliments on them or even coming on to them. That might scare their penises right off.

Anyone tried this? -- KC

I was at NCI the other night and observed 2 Adolescent Acting girls take great joy in Bumping and Pinning obvious looking Newbs. (They knew better than to come near me)
They were laughing and snickering, all in open chat, when one says "Oh, it's even better when you fly into them. Watch" They proceeded to carry out Kamikazee attacks on one poor girl looking at freebies. I had seen enough. I stepped in front of the girl and shouted out to both of them , by name to knock it off or I will be ARing them. They laughed and TP'ed away, after calling me a few names, that in my neighborhood are actually terms of endearment. I tried to explain to the victim how to send an AR but he wasn't an English speaker. I felt bad for her.

This is exactly why SL completely missed the point on how to best enact restrited push.

The parcel flag for restricting push is compeltely inadequet in so many ways. There.com did it right. Simple, effectinve, universal. When you turned on no push it was a personal setting. When your avatar was set no push, NOTHING could touch you, not other avs, not vehicles NOTHING. It was a perfect walking push shield. (Obviously vehicles you were seated on would be exhept)

Unfortuantely this is not something that can be fixed in the O.S. Client, t would be the servers responsibility.

You guys seem to think that an AR is some kind of terrifying weapon that will strike fear into the heart of every griefer. You and I and every two bit newb out there knows nobody gives a crap about ARs. ...

It's a shame that misinformation like the above is perpetuated by people who should know better. If you ignore the griefer, they'll just move on to someone else (better someone else than you, eh?). If you confront the griefer, that just plays into their mindset. If you grief the griefer, well then you risk getting AR'd yourself for a TOS violation. Basically there aren't really any great options, but ARing the miscreant at least developes a file on them and usually, if you can get several people to AR him/her/it at the same time, action gets taken.

Is this a trick question? I remember when the WHOLE GRID was shutdown twice a week from grey-goo attacks. So it depends. I haven't been personally effected by grieving attacks probably this year (expect for the one's I went out and looked for, for the fun of it).

In my grid-cosmo lifestyle, I say griefing isn't getting any worse. I think people are resistant to change, and there in-lies all the grief.

I don't know where you guys hang out all the time, but to be completely honesty, I have VERY LITTLE trouble with griefers. I rarely ever run into them. If I do, there are many ways to remedy the situation...

For some reason though...the forums complain about griefers 24/7. Where the heck are you guys getting griefed so much? I'd really like to know?

ps. maybe THEIR the griefers....Muuuuhsahahahahahahh

No, I don't think Griefing is becoming more common. I still go Months between griefing incidents, and that is while attending what might be considered target locations (Malls, Clubs, Certain Lifestyle Sims). Occasionally i run into a lone roving moron, or a small pack of adolescent minds, But incidents are still very Uncommon.

There are certain Extreme risk locations, like sand boxes, and Welcome areas, but the Rates of griefing incidents in those areas, though fairly High still seem to be also fairly Constant.

Actually, from may to present, i don't think i've personally witnessed a single Incident. If it was on the rise, My experiences seem to Defy both the Averages, and Lady Luck.

I've become more and more convinced that teens have invaded the main grid. Maybe many of these are adults but I choose to believe they are. I don't want to lose complete faith in humanity.

Griefers are most common in places like public sandboxes or other locations where build is enabled; places where newbies are common; places near the first two categories; and furry sims, which are frequently attacked. There are also localized cases where the attacks are the result of a grudge or a business competition. There used to be cases of certain club owners contracting for griefers to disrupt competitors' clubs, though I haven't heard much of that lately. And finally, and perhaps in some ways worst, is land-griefing - harrassing or otherwise diminishing the utility or value of someone's land, usually to either force them to sell or force them to otherwise come to terms with the land-griefer. The latter can stay within the TOS, even while being totally unethical and reprehensible. If you are not seeing any of this, congratulations, your style of living in SL is keeping you in nice, safe neighborhoods among nice, civil people. Would all neighborhoods were like that.

I don't know if the greifing is getting less effective, but it does seem to be getting less common. I haven't gotten greifed in a couple of months. But then I no longer hang out in places likely to get greifers.

I've only seen three forms of greifing: the MarioBros/BillCosby/Hittler rezzing attacks, being caged - flying and stationary, and the auto notecard creator - usually with some dumb sophmoric vulgarity being repeated.

Are there any others? ( I hope not ;) )

my personal favorite way to deal with Griefers if i am at home is to sit down and then freeze them
and keep freezing them til they get bored and log off i do not talk to them or respond in any other way
once they log i ban them so they get bounced around a lil when they try to log back in to last place

but once in awhile a imaginitive griefer can be fun, i had a old time WWIIoler come up to me and tell me that if i showed him my sweater hams he would not bother me any more
we have since become very good friends and i call on him when other less experienced griefers bother me
