From: Angelique LaFollette That would be because many people have rather limited imaginations, Real is about All they can handle. I'm French, I Guess that makes me a little more Cosmopolitan about such things, and an Incurable Romantic at heart. Angel. Again, I find myself completely ( well, almost) lost for words.

From: Tod69 Talamasca If we have Avatar Pregnancies, I'm sure some of them eventually become unwanted. Do we have an Avatar Abortion Clinic?? Maybe with some protesters standing outside, all typing insults at the women coming in! lol, yes, what are the moral implications of deleting a prim baby? Come to think of it, what are the moral implications of ending an avatars "life"? Personally, I can see great value in having prim babies and things such as nursing anims (being a nursing mom myself in RL), I can see such things being indespensable for things such as online parenting support etc. But for an accessory? Seems to me there are a few too many parents in RL that feel that way about their kids.

Seems to me there are a few too many parents in RL that feel that way about their kids. Oftentimes, us child avatars end up adopted an treated like accessories, too. Fun to have for a day or two, but discarded shortly after. (In which cases, I'd rather folks went with a prim baby rather than one of us) Mari

From: Pixieplumb Flanagan Recently a business associate of mine had an SL baby. We are not particularly close, although I did send a gift (toy farm) to her baby shower. I would have liked to have gone, but it was a difficult time as I'm UK and she is US. My question however is what happens? My friend had the body shapes and had an attachment ( I assume it was an attachment ) which told her when the baby was kicking and so on, but is there an animation for childbirth? And do you get a prim baby (or series of babies; they grow fast!) Is there an anim for breast feeding, and does anyone do a prim toddler etc? I have two RL kids which is fine, and we are trying for a third, so I am not in the market for an SL baby myself, but I'm curious to know. Many thanks if anyone can help. Ive heard it all now LMAO got to say this has made my day thanks for the smile

From: Samaira Vieria lol it sounds fun to begin with but I can't wait for it to be over lol it's been interesting, I like to try things, but as to whether i'd do it again, I dunno =) I've heard that from most pregnant RL moms after about 8 months... p.s. I love the idea of an SL funeral home! Then we could have SL graveyards with the names of our dearly departed avatars carved on the tombstones... just think, a whole new business section could pop up of tombstone and crypt builders.

Already have people that make those type of things - tombstones and crypts (Vampires and other such), so there already are some skilled in this art. Just get some to build a graveyard for the non-horror crowd .

I really wonder about the reactions of some people here... taking virtual life is considered normal in countless computer games, but giving virtual life is somehow weird?
Must be related to the whole "everything remotely sex related is dirty" notion. If anything is weird, it's our society that views sex, pregnancy and childbirth as less normal than murder.

Didn't St Augustine already weigh in on the question of whether unbaptized prim babies have UUIDs?
To be honest, I feel odd about my animated pet. I have a RL doggie, and as clever as my SL doggie is, she just feels a bit, well--fake. Prim babies? Well, judging by the responses here, I'm not alone in thinking that is solidly in the middle of the Uncanny Valley.

Or it's the "grown men and women pretending to be toddlers and in diapers is creepy" notion. Especially when all the SL toddlers I've met and talked with actually admitted to being around 40 years old. I'm not pulling the paedophilia card here by any means, but it's just creepy to me to imagine a 40 yr old in diapers for anything other than incontinence reasons. Also, considering the arguments that come out of some of the same people posting on this thread I don't think your claims of social "taboo" hold water. Just like these people are free to pretend to be pregnant or toddlers, I am free to find it creepy. It's only an issue if we start trying to step on each other's rights in this situation...like having virtual water break next to me...or throwing the virtual placenta into my shop...stuff like that!

Well, since we are discussing Prim Babies here, The issue of grown people Playing children doesn't really enter into it. The issue of these Sim pregnancies is like a doll programmed sometimes with wants and needs like a Tamagochi Virtual Pet. Angel.

Angel. So this is different from the deal where people have "children" played by people with kid avs? I thought those prim babies were to eventually be the kid avs. If not then it's slightly less creepy. You should have to give birth in a damage area and take damage during birth...and have a placenta and stuff. That's keepin it real!

A friend of mine roleplayed a pregnancy for her character in Everquest. It turned out to be a lovely story, emotionally enriching for everyone connected to her. But such imagination is beyond the ken of many responders in this thread---unless is it fed to them by authorized Hollywood entertainment corporations...

r o t f l m a o This is the funniest thread EVER. I have a good SL friend who did the prim baby thing after an SL wedding to someone she truly really loved. They were communicating with each other outside of SL too. They built a beautiful home on a private island, and outfitted it with a nursery. The prim babies were very cute and well loved. Then my friend's SL husband turned out to be a jerk and left, and after a brief relationship with someone else my friend left SL, and I haven't seen her for a long time. Overall, the whole story is really sad. But, I got to host her baby shower and we put a lot of effort into it, a lot of women avies came and gave presents, it was great. At the time I still thought SL might be a Good Place, where Love was possible. Now I think it's rare in here for there to be True Love. Too many people see it as only a game, and stomp on the feelings of others. The avie is fake, the player is real. Please don't ever forget that. I myself now have someone in my second life I truly love... I hope it works out well. Goddess knows I've kissed enough prim frogs already. But noooooo way am I going to do a virtual pregnancy. LOL.

From: SqueezeOne Pow Why would someone get tired of being a particular av and decide to start over and lose everything? Isn't that what the ability to change your appearance at will is all about??
New name... at least for me. I still log on my old avie occasionally (Usually to retrieve something I made)- but Capella is pretty much my one and only atm. Capella DeCuir is so much prettier than Bekah Valeeva.

Just because it's not my bag doesn't mean that I don't have an imagination. I just don't find chat spam telling me that the baby is kicking to be amusing when I didn't ask...in the same way that engagement rings shouldn't ever talk...nor body parts for that matter.
The "adoption" stuff in SL makes more sense to me and I know several people who have very satisfying slives as a result of their virtual traditional and non-traditional families. That I get.

Hmmmm.... maybe I should build a Prim Dingo to eat Prim Babies?? Also wondering if we'll ever see Hard Alley Abortions? Scripted Coat Hangers in a dirty textured poorly built shack? GEEZ!! There's SO much comedy material in these Prim Baby threads!

From: Angelique LaFollette I don't think I can Understand applying terms like "Wierd", or "Creepy" to the idea of child birth, and parenting I can, here in SL, and here's how: * Those gawd-awful talking bellies. Spare me please, I really don't care to be spammed by your belly, put it on "mom only" please! YES, that's wierd and creepy! * I asked an acquaintance, who was an SL pole dancer and paid rent, etc that way - and then got pregnant, "have you saved up in advance for this, because you won't be able to pole dance with the large pregnant belly?" The answer? "Oh no, that's not a problem, when I go dance I just remove the belly and then put it back on afterwards." YES, that's weird and creepy! * Asked this same acquaintance, after the "birth" when she was carrying around the SPAMMING prim baby, "is there a place offering 'babysitting' if you and your partner want to go out dancing or something?" The answer? Oh no, that's not a problem, when we want to go somewhere or get tired of dealing with the baby, I just put it in inventory and then bring it out again later." YES, that's weird and creepy!
