Recently a business associate of mine had an SL baby. We are not particularly close, although I did send a gift (toy farm) to her baby shower. I would have liked to have gone, but it was a difficult time as I'm UK and she is US. My question however is what happens? My friend had the body shapes and had an attachment ( I assume it was an attachment ) which told her when the baby was kicking and so on, but is there an animation for childbirth? And do you get a prim baby (or series of babies; they grow fast!) Is there an anim for breast feeding, and does anyone do a prim toddler etc? I have two RL kids which is fine, and we are trying for a third, so I am not in the market for an SL baby myself, but I'm curious to know. Many thanks if anyone can help.

I was recently confronted with an ultrasound of an unborn SL baby by someone I'd regarded as quite sane up to that point. I didn''t know what to say then and I still don't know what to say now.

SL pregnancy is a bit less interesting than those junior high lessons about responsible parenting that involve an egg or sack of flour.

While not my cup of tea, some do like the concept of parenthood carried into SL, and believe that the "birth" is part of that. *shrugs* To each theri own.
As to what happens after, I know several families in SL where one of the Residents is the child. That is, they play a child avatar and the parents take care of them, they go to parks, and do family outings and such.
Reasons to do this are as varied as the Residents themselves. 99% are simply for the fun and feel of a family.

~Jessy Yes, I know that there are people who play a child av in SL, but I was wondering what one would do if one didn't want a grown up kid, so to speak! It looks like fun to play a kid, but wouldn't be so much fun to play a baby. does anyone know if there are prim babies?

Yes. There are. They rate up there as annoying as the talking tummies for the pregnacy and certain talking adult bits.
imo, they are a bit freaky. Nice work by some in both build and scripting.......but freaky.

I know a few places that make prim babies that also come in a pregnancy package. I've found that lot of prim babies wind up like the Tamagotchi.. batteries pulled and stuffed into a drawer/inventory to never be dragged out again.

Someone in SL showed me a virtual ultrasound photo of an unborn virtual baby being carried by a virtual SL avatar. Luckily, I'd already eaten.

Ok, well i'm sl pregnant so hopefully I can help. Normally you go to a maternity clinic & buy a pregnancy program, this normally lasts for six weeks. The clinic modify your shape for each week of pregnancy, so each week you swap shapes & gain a bigger belly! The attachment that your friend had is a tummy talker, which is bought seperately, it's basically a worn attachment that spams about the baby, like Fred is kicking, they *do* get on my nerves, it was ok at first but now I can't wait to see the back of it! It can be set so only the Mum gets to read the spam, as mine is, or so all get to delight in hearing it! lol Yes, there is a childbirth animation, the clinic deals with all that, but it does *appear* as in r/l, won't go into that here lol looks pretty realistic though. You're given a prim baby, no it doesn't grow. I have heard that people can make an account & have the prim baby as their av but I have no idea if that's true & it freaks me out! Some people play a child av which can be adopted by the prim babies parent/s to carry on the rp as it gets older, while prim baby is deleted or in the inventory I guess, won't be happening for me though. I don't know anyone who does a prim toddler & yes there's a breast feeding choice/ani. I didn't actually want the prim baby as I expect many don't, I just wanted to do the sl pregnancy for fun, as some marry, buy houses etc, I don't get all into it like ooo she's kicking etc lol tbh i'm 1 week off having her & cannot wait, i'm bored of it now lol it's fun to begin with & then drags. I just wanted to see what it was like. HTH

Gosh, only six weeks?! that sounds tempting! Well, it's not for me, but very interesting all the same. it makes SL more real when there are pregnant peeps, and older peeps and so on. more varied.

From: Chas Connolly Oh, I quite agree, but do we have to share everything with each other? Like mommy's sudden craving for strawberries? (Thank you, Samaira Vieria, for muting your own belly!) Why does it spam that baby is sleeping soundly? Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of a sound sleep?

Many thanks if anyone can help. * My question however is what happens? You're friend will go through a progressive series of avatar altarations over the course of her virtual pregnancy. She will also have a emoting device on her that will say text every once in a while, like "Your baby is kicking," etc. At some point she will have a virtual childbirth, and will have a prim baby to carry around. It will also have en emoter device, and will need some care form the virtual mother. * My friend had the body shapes and had an attachment ( I assume it was an attachment ) which told her when the baby was kicking and so on, but is there an animation for childbirth? Yes. Usually the place that does the pregnancy stuff will also have a birthing room, with all the trimmings. * And do you get a prim baby (or series of babies; they grow fast!) It's typically a single prim baby; some have gone to adopting a SL kid sometime after the both, as a "continuation" of the baby in question. * Is there an anim for breast feeding, and does anyone do a prim toddler etc? On the former, not that I know of, but I wouldn't be surprised. Never seen a prim toddler: usually you can find a child avatar for that. (and yes, there are kid avvies who will play baby, too) Mari

To each their own I guess. I personally don't find it appealing in the least and those talking bellies freak me out. But, again, each person lives their own slife differently.

I'm just wondering about the other end of the life process - when we've done our 10 years in SL and want to bow out gracefully, is there a way for us to die peacefully in our beds with our SL friends at the bedside? PS I'm not planning to do that just yet!!!
