Will this take effect immediately? Will there be reimbursement involved for virtual casino owners? * It will take effect immediately. * Second Life Residents are responsible for their own behavior and compliance with the policy. * There will be no reimbursement if Linden Lab removes objects or activities that violate this policy
You didn't have to remove any of my machines and they have been down since the 1st notice came out about the ban... So where is my reimbursement????

You haven't read your own quote then, huh? "There will be no reimbursement."
If the machines have been inactive anyway, you have not lost anything. If they were no copy... well, you could have just put them up and tucked them in. Actually, it doesn't matter if you still have them or not - you couldn't have used them legally anyway.

What words in this sentence are you unable to comprehend? And yes 350 dollars worth of useless machines bought at the suggestion of LL as a casino as a way to make a living here is a loss.

LL are saying that if they come and delete your objects that are now not allowed they will not reinburse you. Nowhere have they said they will pay you for lost income if you take your own machines back to inventory. Did anyone at LL actually suggest to you that you make a casino as a way to make a living?

From: Deep Tenk What words in this sentence are you unable to comprehend? Getting rude will make you look like a really nice guy, I'm sure. I actually understand the sentence completely but I suspect you don't. LL removed objects that violated the "no gaming for money" policy. It doesn't matter if they were inactive at the time, they can be activated again in a blip. As long as you have the place set up, it is not unreasonable to think that you are planning in continuing that business in the near future, thereby violating LL ToS. They were right, and you don't get any reimbursement. NO reimbursement, as stated in the sentence in question. As for spending money - well, tough. But that was still your own choice. Bad business decisions happen to all of us sooner or later. I am pretty sure the Lindens themselves did not force you into this line of business. And again, you could not have used the machines legally now anyway. *shrug*

Ummm yes LL did suggest i make my living as a casino owner but imagine that it has now been replaced with 'hug maker'.
There are as many opportunities for innovation and profit in Second Life as in the Real World. Open a nightclub, sell jewelry, become a land speculator; the choice is yours to make. Thousands of residents are making part or all of their real life income from their Second Life Businesses.
By way of example, here are just a few in-world business occupations which Residents founded and currently run, and make part or all of their real life living from. Try searching for these categories via the in-world Find menu:
party and wedding planner pet manufacturer tattooist nightclub owner automotive manufacturer fashion designer aerospace engineer custom avatar designer jewelry maker architect XML coder freelance scripter game developer fine artist machinima set designer tour guide dancer musician custom animation creator theme park developer real estate speculator vacation resort owner advertiser bodyguard magazine publisher private detective writer gamer landscaper publicist special effects designer gunsmith hug maker
And where did i say anything about lost income? I asked where is the reimbursement for the machines that i took down after the 1st notice. The machines have been in my inventory since that time. LL didn't have to removee them or delete them. Can anyone here read or make an educated comment that has anything to do with the quote above put out by LL themselves?

Did Linden labs also suggest that you could be a escort to make money? well? ...go get those stiletto's on and get your butt out there! Come on! there's money to be made!! Seriously though...I'm just making a point. Linden Labs "suggested" that you could make money that way...in addittion to many other ways. They're not responsible for which road you take once you get in world.

Nobody forced you to spend $350 on gambling equipment, so it's not really anyone's fault that you can no longer use them. If you must blame anyone, blame the US government as it's their laws against online gambling that have caused this act - although something that was long overdue.
Second Life casinos were unregulated, and therefore could not be really trusted - however trustworthy you might think you are.
Slot machines are now treated as any other scam such as pyramid schemes - against the rules, and deleted without warning, and no compensation for something you shouldn't have had anyway.
I have never seen gambling as an "income source" listed in Second Life, rather just one of the possible pastimes.
No income of any description is ever guaranteed in Second Life, although much of the marketing is focused on "make money", it does require skill and effort... and simply sticking someone else's slot machines inside a badly textured box (which are, after all, the majority of casinos anyway) doesn't qualify as either.
I used to really enjoy an apple drink called Cydrax. You can't find it any more in the UK. Should I demand compensation from the manufacturers because they don't make it now?

From: Deep Tenk the choice is yours to make. That is the part of the quote that really matters. It was your choice, it was a bad one, so shut up and don't whine. (See? I can be rude, too. ) From: Deep Tenk And where did i say anything about lost income? I asked where is the reimbursement for the machines that i took down after the 1st notice. Again, I point to the sentence you yourself quoted. "Objects that violate ToS" includes gambling machines. Just like copybot or griefer weapons might be deleted by LL without reimbursement because they violate ToS. It does not matter if you spend money on them. That was your own choice. From: Deep Tenk The machines have been in my inventory since that time. You did not say that before. You only said they have been down. From: Deep Tenk LL didn't have to removee them or delete them. If they want to make sure you do not use them illegally - yes, they did have to do that, and they announced they would. Look at the bright side, though. If you had put them up again, you might have found your account suspended for violating ToS. From: Deep Tenk Can anyone here read or make an educated comment that has anything to do with the quote above put out by LL themselves? Can you yourself read and/or put in clear words what you are talking about? I was reacting to the facts given by you. If you do not give them correctly, that is your own choice as well. Edit: From: Deep Tenk bought at the suggestion of LL as a casino as a way to make a living here There you talk about lost income.

*coughs* The OP joined april this year... Guess he thought to make fast money here in SL. Gambling equipment was not very clever.... Even I, as not US citizen, was already aware for a long time that the US government was busy on these laws....
So it was dumping money in a black hole?
In Ultima Online there was a populair saying: you own nothing in Britiannia... not even the pixels on your screen!

From: Deep Tenk * There will be no reimbursement if Linden Lab removes objects or activities that violate this policy You question was since they say they wont reimburse if they remove the object, will they reimberse you if they DONT have to remove the object. Unfortionately I think the awnser to that is no they wont.

And why should they?
They state that the will not reimburse if they delete (i.e., actually destroy stuff). That's a simple precautionary statement that does not in an way imply any other kind of compensation for other actions taken or not taken.
So why would that mean that they would reimburse if someone packs away his stuff, except as an exercise in wishful thinking?

Aside from that, "removing objects" says nothing about the state or placement of said objects. Again, I refer to stuff like copybot or illegal weapons - even if the resident has packed them away, they're still illegal and ready to use in a heartbeat. And of course they'd have to remove them from inventory. So I don't see his machines as any different.

Oh yes the casino push LLABS did to say "HEY YOU TOO CAN MAKE MONEY" Open a casino! Indorsed LLABS.......Now look.....Some casinos are taken down some have their machines in place. If they deleted all casinos machines I say OK. But thats not the case, its so typical of LLABs to apply rules when they pleases and lets others go without notice. well, I can understand that some people are quite pissed with the way this ban was enforced. I don't specially like gambling nor do I dislike it. I had my few visits in SL to have a game of texas hold'em in a few casinos and it was fun.
Anyway, one should understand that some casino owners have invested large ammounts of RL money into creating their casino. Amsterdam Palace for example was placed on the center of 4 private islands to allow more AV's into the casino then one single sim could hold. Like I said I don't judge the actual business itself good or bad.
Anyway, 4 sims cost you roughly 6400US $ when you order them + 1200$ / month on LL maintainance / tier costs. And then LL makes a blog post (the first gambling ban post not today) that as of RIGHT NOW gambling is banned.
I think you see what I'm getting at. To ban gambling is fine with me and I guess would have been with casino owners as well (more or less). But not if you ruin their investment and business from one day to the next. This ban would have required a announcement and certain time period before being enforced and not just being thrown at you.. "It is banned, get lost". This would have given the casino owners enough time to terminate their ongoing businesses and look for other ways to generate their revenue (and secure their WSE stocks) etc etc.

From: Wiseguy Capra This ban would have required a announcement and certain time period before being enforced and not just being thrown at you.. The ban of advertising gambling with references to "look at the law, we're no longer sure it's legal" should have been warning enough, and that came weeks before the actual ban. Also, the law in question has been in effect for even longer. It was about time that they abided by it. Would you have rather had the FBI close SL down completely during an official investigation of this so no one can temper with evidence?

I meant theblog post from 2 weeks ago. The ban on advertising was known but with no word was it said at that time that LL was considering to ban gambling all together and it did not include your clubs sploder and other little fun objects you might have around where people play just for the fun of it. The actual ban for gambling was enforced from one day to the next in a blog post 2 weeks ago without any prior notice on this matter. And I bet LL has moved this into place this quick for some matters they don't talk about like being investigated by the feds in this matter or something like that.

Like I said in my first post I don't care much about it. Since I did not own one casino or any place that make smoney from gambling. And sorry if not everyone reads the forum to see what will be banned or not. Does one really have to read the forum every day and the blog on top only to know what is going down? I believe the blog would have been the right place to announce this in a fasionable time and not the forum.

Well, that's what people do who want to run a successful business, here as much (or even a bit more) than in RL. You gotta stay on top of things or you're gonna be out of business soon.
