I know it is easy on a BB to make flip judgements but I did attend your teachers meet when this was put forward by Jessie Linden, and I do appeciate the act of both teaching and being taught fills a purpose in Second Life. Maybe if the pop stats continue to grow it is one to come back too, but for now it seems to me LL have a drive to become commercially viable

They're balancing sources and sinks. Paying instructors is a source. Also, I've *NEVER* seen, been to, or heard of an actual class event going on,so LL may feel like it's not reaching a wide enough audience to continue to justify it.

Unfortunatly, that is not the case. Last month LL introduced nearly $L50,000,000 new currency by direct sales, which raised approximatly $180,000 in USD.

Its probably more about getting residents to be self sufficent and less about balancing the sources and sinks.

There is not a lot i can do to change the things at LL, i think once they sold out, the handwriting was on the wall, but what i can do is this:

Be kind and mannered to those i meet in SL, have great conversations, teach newbs a few things, work on my place to make it attractive and entertaining.

If all take this to heart, and try to make it a world worth playing in, Second Life as we know and love will continue, its really all up to us. Yes the griefers are a pain in the ass, and theres days i want an aspirin and lay down, but for the most part, i meet terrific ppl and enjoy their company immensely.

So that being said, im signing into SL to see what the afternoon will bring..there is always hope if good players exist and im telling you that they do.

I was wondering when this would happen... Classes are a GOOD thing in SL but I have also noticed alot of instructors abusing the system and only using it to find any loop hole to get PAID fast...
LL however could have changed the criteria and made it harder for this to abused instead of taking it away completely...
But then it comes to mind, how many greeters and Live Help volunteers give help for free, not the same as a "class" but more one on one attention to new users...
There are places like the Ivory tower that new players can go to and learn at thier own pace and never need to go to a class... maybe we need to find a way to get more places like that in SL, preferablly LL sponsored instead of relying on residents.

I'm posting this in the form of a question to other residents, so I'm not accused of "ranting" and "posting off topic." I'm just back from a three-day ban for suggesting in this forum that Linden Lab has been lying to landowners:

So, I'll ask this one as a question to other residents. What can I do, as a teacher, now that Linden Lab has decided that supporting teachers is "unhealthy"? What will newbs do, when they can't find any help? Can some smart resident chime in and give me the answer?

Yep, they’re stickin it to teachers, now. And lying about the reasons. That's low. Go ahead and ban me again for asking questions, Linden Lab. Go ahead and show your true colors. Let everyone see how you really are.

I wish I could be more like you, cursing at LL without actually cursing at them. Bravo.

If only I had that kind of anger control ;)

This has been on my mind for about a year now, finally this stuff is hitting the fan!

You Could try Teaching for FREE. I do it all the time, and i find it quite enjoyable. If you were only doing it for the Money, Well, Maybe you just aren't suited to be a Teacher.

It seems like there is no altruism left in the world, Like the Only driving force and source of satisfaction people seem to have these days is Money. What a truely sad and shallow existance that is.

They'll download CopyBot and copy whatever they need. Then they'll quit because no-one is left but griefers and thieves.
